  1. Any of the Mogwai/Sigor Ros/ people into lamb

Lamb always seem to be one of the acts recommended by Amazon under "other stuff you may like", so I really should give them a listen, but my "albums to buy" list is as long as my arm at the moment.

  2. How did Donovan look?

Tiny tongue.gif . He made one good run that I recall, slaloming past a couple of players before making a decent pass which came to nothing. Liverpool had pretty much stifled the life out of the game by the time he came on, but he certainly posed them more problems than the player he replaced (Berbatov?) during the limited time he was on the pitch.

  3. Went to Anfield with some lads from work last night. Liverpool were pretty good (Harry Kewell excepted, wouldn't have him at Rovers for all the tea in China) but Leverkeusen were very poor, and didn't look like they had much to offer up front. Suspect that even the scousers might struggle to blow the away leg. It was hard to supress a chuckle when Dudek ballsed up at the end though.

  4. Andy, don't know if you (or anyone else for that matter) know who I'm on about, but there is a scene in the film La Haine (top film btw) which features a hip hop track overlaid with Non Je Ne Regret Riene by Edith Piaf. I've always wanted to know who did it (it also features some of the most awesome scratching I've ever heard).

  5. 1) Hibs (my dad is from Edinburgh)

    2) Fiorentina (picked pretty much at random back when Serie A used to be on C4, always kept an eye out for them ever since)

    3) Valencia (same reason as 2, just a random team that allows me to watch Primera Liga with some sort of interest)

    4) Boca Juniors (the entire Boca / River thing - got to side with the working class club)

    5) Accrington Stanley - local and no immediate threat to Rovers

  6. An interesting piece here from The Guardian:

    linky-link

I especially like the honours comparison at the bottom. biggrin.gif

    From the article:

"Blackburn Rovers fans tauntingly refer to the home of Burnley as Tiny Moor"

Eh? T-U-R-D spells? Other than that, a good read. Nice to see the bitterness shining through so brightly:

"Burnley, famous country wide for producing player after home-grown player, were in their pomp then, and still harbour hopes of a return to those glory years. Indeed many believe it is their right, and mutter darkly that but for Jack Walker's millions they would still be north Lancashire's top dogs."

He he. Sucks to be them I guess.

  7. Debs should be given the ticket, but in return Gav should be allowed to watch the game down the pub, get absolutely hammered, hit the clubs to celebrate a famous victory then stagger through the door at 4 am with a bird on each arm - it's the risk Debs takes for letting him out of her sight.

  8. It's a Mogwai antipasto. Followed by Boards of Canada as the primo. Finishing off with the usual Pere Ubu pudding of course.  Molto Bene.

Maybe Sigur Ros for coffee wink.gif

Autechre on toast for me please.

  9. Ah, I'd forgotten all about this thread. smile.gif

After the summer I read The Swords Of Night And Day, the most recent of David Gemmell's Drenai saga, which was ok, but far from his best. Then I sort of went off the whole Sword and Sorcery thing for a while and read the third in Orson Scott Card's Seventh Son series, enthralling stuff set in an alternate-history fronteir America. Not you usual fantasy fair and once you get past the silly period dialect its very hard to put the damn thing down.

As soon as I finish Gene Wolfe's Books of the New Sun (which is turning into more of a slog than I'd hoped, although not quite as bad as the similarly themed Tales of The Dying Earth by Jack Vance - fantasy masterwork my @rse) I plan to read Ender's Game ahead of the film coming out this / next year. Read Seventh Son years ago, and remember it being pretty good, but never really got into the series.

For anyone after a sci-fi recommendation, Alistair Reynolds' Century Rain is a good read (albeit a bit of a departure from his previous stuff), and Broken Angels by Richard Morgan is just fantastic, even better than it's predecessor.

  10. I've voted no, but not because I wanted Ferguson to stay. Selling Ferguson when we did resulted in the worst possilble scenario from a Rovers perspective. Not only did we lose Ferguson to Rangers, but we didn't even have the time to plow the money into areas of the team which are crying out to be reinforcement (i.e. a $&%£ing striker) The management and board at Ewood have ballsed up badly in my opinion.

  11. Cant see Bellamy joining in this small window that remains. Its too tight now for a money signing in my opinion.

What do you base that on? If a fee has been agreed behind the scenes there is more than enough time to negotiate personal terms and carry out a medical. That said, the story does seem to have gone very cold over night, I hope we haven't got our hopes up for nothing.

  12. Watched Oldham and Bolton today and it looks like Brum may have got themselves a good prospect from us in young Alex Bruce, had a useful game today. I thought Oldham deserved to win too.

Got to second that, Bruce had a very assured game. Hope he doesn't turn out to be one who got away from us before he realised his potential.

  13. Ages ago I posted that I would never applaud Craig Bellamy if he played for Rovers, no matter how many goals he scored. In the main this was because I don't think much of him as a person, but in truth it was always something of a hollow threat, given that I didn't think we would ever again have the chance to sign a player of his calibre. How fickle is the football fan! If we were to sign Bellamy it would, in my opinion, represent the single most important purchase for this club since Shearer. I can't believe some of the people saying "well he's a good player and all that, but...". Bellamy is absolutely the best striker we could realistically hope to sign, and at any other time we wouldn't have a hope of landing him.

A lucky confluence of circumstances have given Rovers this chance; Newcastle are desperate to get rid before the transfer window closes, Blackburn have a little more money than we thought we would have at this stage of the season, and Bellamy's relationship with Hughes makes us a more attractive destination than we otherwise might have been. Of course Bellamy isn't perfect, but he is significantly better than anyone we have at the club currently, and Hughes has as good a chance of bringing him to heel as anyone. If nothing else, I would relish the irony of benefiting from a Souness vs. player bust up for once.

  14. I agree.  There music might have sounded good if it was around 10 years ago.

It was. It was just being performed by the Stone Roses.

i dont think the stone roses are comparible tbh.

I hope you are saying that comparing the two is a disservice to the Stone Roses, because Kasabian are ar$e.

  15. All we need now is Widebhoy and this board will effectively have been taken over  sad.gif

Mate, I don't think two Gers fans having a civilised conversation is "taking the board over" eh?

    Chill! laugh.gif

Don't worry, Phil probably just thinks it constitutes illegal imigration. As regards Ferguson, it is now painfully clear that it is in the best interests of all parties to get him gone as soon as possible. I've always been of the opinion that once a player has made it plain he does not want to be at the club, you get rid, and fast. I don't especially blame Murray for the way he has conducted himself, he is trying to get a player at the best price he can, and is using Barry's proclaimed desire to return as leverage. Any good chairman would do the same. On the flip side, Rovers are in resonably good financial health so can afford to prevaricate in order to coax a better price out of Rangers. If we can get somewhere around £5 - £5.5 million for Ferguson, either now or in the summer, it will go a long way to bankrolling another striker. Just as long as it's not Craig ****** Bellamy.
