  1. I am annoyed that Goodwillie has never been given a proper chance. He showed his capabilities in the SPL and so is therefore more than capable of doing the same in the Championship. Fitness is a two way thing - if he was actually picked to play in some competitive football then his match fitness would increase and he wouldn't look so rusty. After his cameo against leicester he should have started last night instead of these Portugese no marks. I listened to Radio Lancs and they said he was a threat last night when he came on. Obviously he scored but he also shot from about 40 yards away and nearly scored.

He has also scored against the current world champions in a euro qualifier... Edinho plays like he hasnt scored a goal in a back garden.

  2. I cannot believe with so many witnesses, that nobody has been charged for the incident. Somebody gets killed, and the person/s responsible are walking around a free man. Anywaym, RIP Sir…

with due respect, you didn't witness it. I accept though you are probably thinking what many are thinking who weren't there.

I think those of us who genuinely witnessed this absolutely tragic incident, and have a basic understanding of law, will understand why nobody has been charged.

  3. well said stuart ripley. I was there and echo everything you have just said

its the first time ive been on this board since the incident and trying to come to terms with it. I also gathered it would be full of idiots throwing their two penneth in and starting rubbish and sick rumours. I darent read the earlier pages of this thread, after hearing about some of the crap on the telegraph website. If you genuinely saw the incident, do the right thing and contact the police.

  4. He's a leg breaking, penalty conceeding liability.

rubbish. for the last 2 year of his rovers spell he was one of our best players, he gave nothing less than 100% in every game he played, can play both full back sides and centre half and was also quality in world cup 2006

there's no doubting his move to west ham was borne out of greed and its amusing it seems to have backfired. As has been previously said, he handled it badly because he publically stated he wanted to leave. At least he was honest though and didnt hide behind a transfer get out clause like a certain mr bellamy!

In my opinion if he became available in the summer for an affordable price, was prepared to accept a real cut in wages, and wanted to come back, Hughes should really consider going for him

  5. Not exactly on the "BBE drummer" theme......but,

This morning i caught the last 20mins of "The Big Match" on ITV4.

It was a retro look at a program broadcast 25years ago. Everton were playing cup holders Spurs in the FA cup 5th round (Everton won 2-0 with ex-rover Jim Arnold in goal & Howard Kendall the boss)....anyway, that`s not what i`m on about.

The thing what struck me most was the atnosphere in the ground. Packed terracing, swaying & bouncing crowd, loads of chanting, singing, banter between the sets of fans (remember that?)....& most of all, no bl00dy PA system drowning everything out.

It just made me realise what a sterile product football is becoming.

I blame it all on the demise of the terrace :(

yeh i watched this as well and thought the same thing.

absolutely pathetic atmosphere on ewood yesterday. even at 3-1 up and cruising the only songs that could just about be heard were the really creative and imaginative 'going down' and the embarrassing drummer lead 'barmy army' chant.

still its not just ewood where the atmosphere is often rubbish.

  6. A guy I work with saw Big Lorenzo at Liquid in Blackburn a couple of months ago. I thought it odd that he still lived locally, it certainly sounds more plausible that he is running a restaurant back in Italy!

By the way, does anyone remember his cook book, "Love Food, by Amoruso"? I meant to get a copy for my Dad's Christmas present one year but never got round to it.....

Amoruso was spotted at the worst club in the world, roxy in darwen, about a year ago. Someone clearly having a laugh taking him up there! Another who goes up there regularly is mark patterson!

Vince O keefe has been quite a succesful football agent. I think his biggest name is/was chris sutton. He is also to my knowledge still a football coach at QEGS blackburn.

  7. At number 1, is DAVID DUNN

At number 2, is DAVID DUNN

At number 3, is DAVID DUNN

At number 10, is DAVID DUNN

At number 11, is DAVID DUNN

WE ALL LIVE IN A DUNNY WONDER-LAND

    A DUNNY WONDER-LAND !!

I actually quite like this song. Sheff weds used to sing it about david hirst, except number 8 was roland nielsen.

Better than a lot of rovers player songs. At least it dont involve a drum beat

  8. I appear to be the only one who hopes he does NOT sign for us.

The most he will do now is give our medical staff something to work with this season as his knee goes again on his "debut". Stay away pie boy.

What planet are you on? West ham put in a 10 million bid for unproven Ashley Young of Watford who id barely heard of. Relatively speaking, 2 million for a proven player in Dunny is a snippet.

I take it judging by your location you didnt see Dunn much in his prime for rovers. One of the best players to have worn the shirt for rovers in my opinion of watching them regularly in my lifetime.

With any player whose had his injury problems, signing them is a gamble. But its a gamble thats worth it given his proven ability and local lad factor.

I dont get yourself and others with their anti-david dunn views.

The only pie boy around here will be you when your eating sh*tloads of the humble variety!

  9. I don't think you can blame Mimms for being slow to get across. Why would he go across when Super Atko should clearly have had it well covered?

Super Atko - For all the good games he had after this, notably the Dalglish era ones, he's still stuck with that damn own goal! Poor chap!

Super atko is also stuck with the accolade of cheesiest celebration ever. When he wins the second penalty in the play off final 92!

  10. Im only 22 but I went to both games. Remember the first one coz my old man blamed Bobby Mimms more so than super atko or the ball girl! If anyone ever sees the goal again look out for how slow Mimms is trying to get across to it. Remember as well at anfield we had the whole of the end behind the goal for the replay. These days we'd struggle to take a 1000!

  11. agree I miss the old ewood park. It had character. The novelty of these new stadiums has worn off as far as Im concerned. Basically there all the same. In recent years Ive enjoyed going to ninian park and hilsborough because there older, unique and have a more of a traditional football atmosphere.

The atmosphere is crap on ewood nowadays (as it is also at a lot of the newer designed grounds)

  12. Im not worried about your left-back Gray and left-midfielder Pedersen because they are useless.

scf08 i have to agree with you on this point!

you have brought up some interesting facts and good points. i watch quite a lot of dutch football on late night channel 5 tv. (perks of being a student) its fast paced, energetic and the crowds are more passionate than english crowds these days. I also enjoy it more than italian and spanish football because they are boring to watch.

the dangerman for us is tugay! He and savage will overrun and outclass your central midfield. Our goalkeeper friedel is one of the best in the premier league

feyenoord lack the quality of ajax and psv, the best teams in the eredivisie. The eredivisie lacks the quality of the english premier league. On paper we are a better team than feyenoord. You will be in for a shock on thursday night when rovers win comfortably.

  13. Is anyone still looking for accom in Amsterdam?

We are struggling a little as we're staying Wed/Thur/Fri

    Any suggestions.

Plus is it worth ringing some of the places direct rather than using internet based booking system, will they have extra spare rooms etc?

    Cheers

depends what you want. If you looking for cheap budget place, ideal for group of lads, safe, good location etc look on hostelworld.com. Have big selection of hostels/budget hotels in amsterdam. Pay small deposit on the net now and pay rest on arrival. i think durty nellys inn has places weds and thurs but it is very budget.

if you want a bit more class or more family orienated places i cannot help!

  14. I've watched a fair few games of Forest and believe that both Commons and Clinghan are a pivotal part of Nottm Forest. Fair enough they are playing against average players, but these lads are fit to step higher. Clighan is a really strong player and does everything simple. On the International front he has shown this against Romania, Spain, Finland and also against Demark. He doesn't get over-awed by the step-up and would be more than capable of playing in the Premiership.

When you look at Common's I feel its the fact that the Division 1 is a slow league and this style is part of many teams. I feel that you are too harsh on the lad. He's only turned 23 a few months ago and has a good attitude to his game. At the age of 23 and when he moves to a bigger club, playing with quality players, then you will see this man break into his own.

90% of everyone here echo this view and we'll soon see in January.

Cant really argue with most of what you say. Still feels commons lacks the pace required to be a quality player at the top level. And like pedersen he will quickly get found out. There again, playing with better players around him, who knows?

  15. Anyone out of the three possible midfielders I would love to see join Rovers are

    Kris Commons

    Sammy Clinghan

    David Dunn.

Forget about any defenders on that note and also please forgive me about suggesting a move for Forrsell in the summer!

Im at uni in notts so go watching notts forest quite a bit. Trust me, we do not want kris commons! Yeh he scores goals and has a great left foot but he is a poor mans pedersen. He's slow, lazy, doesn't track back etc. He stands out in league 1 because he's playing against relatively average players. He wouldnt cut it in the premiership. Some games you wouldnt no he was on the pitch. Bad enough having one pedersen in rovers team!!!

Id love to see Dunny back at ewood. Theres no doubting it would be a massive gamble due to his injury problems. But its a gamble worth taking. He's a proven premiership player and was one of the best players ive seen playing for rovers. Add the local lad/increased crowd factors and we should put in a realistic bid for him.

  16. Not a chance Beckham would come here. Granted in the past we've pulled off big name coups. Dalglish, Archibald, Cole, Bellamy to name but a few. But Beckham??? At least by showing an interest in him it shows ambition.

Also, a number of people have stated they see Beckham as a replacement to Tugay. I disagree with this. As ive metioned on a another thread, there was an article in yesterdays sun that tugay would like to continue playing until the age of 40. He reckons he can emulate Sheringham and would like to finish his career at ewood. Personally, i'd like to see Tugay here for the next few years. Given the way he plays, i think he could achieve this.

Perhaps we should be looking at a replacement for savage for a couple of years time? I rate savage highly. But considering his main attributes are running, chasing, fitness etc, surely he has only a couple of seasons left at the top flight?

  17. I have rung up and all they can offer is that I put in applications and I may get tickets but they can't promise, because of the outstanding forms they have to process. As you have to have booked travel to put the forms in I run the risk of travel and no tickets, not a risk i am prepared to take.

when qued for the salzburg tickets in person, they didnt even check the travel arrangements on the form etc. May as well have put anything down. Can only assume same thing applies re feyenord?

  18. Completely Agree with will! Going football these days is codshite compared to the past. Salzburg away was how it should be. Getting drunk and having a laugh. Good banter in the bars and streets before the game. No stewards in the ground telling you off for pathetic little things. (boro away last year, got told off for stepping on a seat as i went to the bar downstairs!) Put a cage and net around us and leave us to our own devices. Best of all no drummer.

Lets hope amsterdam/feyenord is just as much fun if not better. Loads of rovers out there, why be scared of a number of idiots who follow feyenord?

  19. Completely agree with everything preston white has said.

In the past ive defended the stay away fans on grounds that ticket prices far too high and that it is understandable why they choose to watch rovers games on the foreign sky in the local pubs.

However, there are no possible excuses for rovers fans not selling out 22k home tickets for this one. Ticket prices have been slashed. There has been a big clampdown on foreign sky showing rovers games in blackburn/darwen pubs. Its our second derby. Rovers doing well in the league. The list goes on. Why would any rovers fan want to stay away from ewood come sunday??

However, if sales have only just topped 20k, assuming bolton have sold 5k so far, i cant see how we are going to shift 7k home tickets in next few days to make a sell out.

  20. Staying in Durty Nellys Inn in Amsterdam on the weds night. Its an irish bar in centre that also does accomodation. 12 pound a night. Basic but does the job required! Its in between central station, dam square, red light. Its got sky so be showing ashes cricket in early hours. all night bar for residents. Can be booked online on hostelworld.com only pay 10% deposit now, pay rest on arrival. Hostelworld best sight to book on if you like to do things on cheap like us

  21. Few of us booked from liverpool to amsterdam. Wed night leave come back fri mornin. 65 return. Last train on thurs night leaves rotterdam at 11.30pm i think. Not booked hotel/hostel, dunno if we'l bother. Worth pointing out ashes cricket 1st test starts on that weds night. Having been to amsterdam before there should be places showing that during the night. Also have it on account rotterdam is a sh*thole

  22. Not a top flight goal, but it was the 91/92 season, home game against Leicester, Kevin someone or other, went on to play for the dingles. I can still see it bouncing off Mimms onto the dimgle and past Mimms for a soft goal.

Defo the worst goal ive ever seen scored against rovers. 5 mins to go, mimms came out of area to clear a backpass, sliced it onto kevin russells backside, trickled into net from 25 yards away in front of a few thousand leicester fans who went mental. Lost 1 nil, during run of 6 defeats on bounce where we nearly blew promotion.
