1. Do the drummers have special dispension to bring the tools of their trade onto the concourse?

Would it be possible for me to bring my Klaxon to a game? It's only a bit bigger than the drum that the chap with glasses bangs away on. You don't really need any rhythmic ability in order to get a note out of it; anybody with sufficient muscle power to turn the handle could get it to make a sound. I think it could be used to build the tension in dead ball situations such as corners or direct free kicks as well as to herald the team's entry onto the field of play at the start of both halves, or just to warn the back of the BBE that Reidy is about to try and relive his JJB glory. When operated with some vigour it can be VERY VERY LOUD.

Failing that, I could bring my xylophone (great for melodic work) or even one of my guitars, my mini marshall busker's amp and my jimi hendrix fuzz wah.

What do you think? Any chance of a free season ticket or even the £25 I was promised for persuading somebody else to buy one and never got?

  2. Did anyone see the coverage of the game on Sky last night. Wenger was the only interview it showed after the game and the interviewer was just prompting him to have a go at our "rough tactics". It was a disgrace. To be fair to Wenger although he said he thought they were unlucky he wasn't too critical of us but it was the way in which the questions were directed that annoyed me.

    386747

I saw that footage but wasn't at all surprised. I also heard Gary Lineker use the phrase "from Galacticos to bloody nose" to highlight Arsenal's contrasting fortunes this week.

How disappointing it must be for the sycophantic media when their pet sides contrive to get themselves beaten.

How fortunate we must consider ourselves to have the audacity to breathe in their rarified atmosphere.

I'm just off to feed mi pigeons, walk the whippet, fix mi clogs and clock in at mill.

Meanwhile, back in London, the Arsenal team-mates are consoling themselves with a bit of up-the-bum fun.............

  3. the majority of the liverpool fans were very supportive not like our fans i remember the chant lets all laugh at cisse that must of been bad on him he was lead next to the blackburn end stand. i remember i guy called rufus i think scored an own goal for fulham at the blackburn end the chant was rufus wants to give and he actualy broke down in tears.

    386066

What are you on about ? Both of those incidents happened in front of where I sit and I don't remember any chants like the ones you allude to.

I distinctly remember "Rufus is a Rover...na na na na". And wasn't it against West Ham? And Rufus Brevitt crying? I seem to remember him being fairly tough and combatitive like Batty.

  4. Savage has been arguably the worst offender in the Premiership this year, some of his antics have been embarrassing.  Hardly anyone has condemed him though, instead we excuse it with the other things he brings to the team.

It's that very attitude (identical at every club I might add) which is keeping things like that in the game.  Fans are happy enough to take the moral high ground when other clubs' players cheat, but when it's one of their own it's excusable.

    386051

Not only is Savage's play-acting embarrassing it is also fairly pathetic and unconvincing. There's no excuse, it's inexcusable and in fact I condemn him for it.

I was disappointed to discover that we were interested in him. I was embarrassed as a Rovers fan by the circus that accompanied his arrival ("I want to live nearer my family"....what a load of sh!t). I thought we paid way over the odds for him and he's not done much yet to justify the outlay.

His contribution to the side (bar the flick for Bentley's hattrick goal) is at best one dimensional. For me this is the only real opportunity for criticism that can be levelled at Hughes.

  5. I agree with that 'Onepost'. I dont wish anything bad on players but i would love to see someone flatten him - Let the Axe have a go the next time we play them!

    386013

Before I get jumped on, I'd rather see him change his ways, but since that appears to be unlikely then a good old-fashioned deadleg delivered regularly with spite and guile will suffice............

  6. What mard arses these latins are.  We used to watch and despise foreign footy in the 60,s and 70's.  We abhorred their shirt pulling, spitting, cheating and diving antics.  Well now thanks to the Prem we have em all here. Del Horno is just a Carlos Kickaball puff who should be widely renounced.

    385955

Just wanted to second this sentiment. Some of the antics that have permeated into the game are just bile-inducing. I'm looking forward to the day when somebody can actually catch that puff Ronaldo from Utd and give him something that he doesn't need to act out.

  7. It's absolutely cringingly embarrassing to watch any video footage from Ewood Park, because the dull thump of the drums just seems to convey the image that the stands are occupied by a mass of dull-witted zombie-fied knuckle-dragging half-wits.

As an extreme example, at the recent Utd league game we had one end of the ground unleashing their full back-catalogue...............

    and the BBE responding with.............................

    "GEH INTO UM" THUMP THUMP

    "GEH INTO UM" THUMP THUMP

    "GEH INTO UM" THUMP THUMP

    Brilliant

  8. I sit in the BBE lower tier on the opposite side of the nets from where the rhythm-challenged din-makers usually congregate, and I'm one of a meagre handful that used to try to get a song going in the block where I sit.

Even without the drumming incompetents, this is more often than not a pointless endeavour. On the few occasions that a song is picked up, it is swiftly obliterated by an out-of-time accompaniment.

If you're tune isn't "Mark Hughes's blah blah blah" then it's pointless bothering - so I don't anymore.

Everybody I have spoken to about it would rather put their fist through the drumskin than keep the drummers. They never start a song, merely join in on any spontaneous singing, often spoiling it with their ineptitude.

While we're at it, why do we have to play some cheesy music over the PA in order to celebrate a goal?

Apart from the Championship season, the atmosphere of the old BBE has never been matched.

  9. Which was my point, but Mr Post was obviously too busy trying to work out what his point out to get it.

    383861

Maybe if you learnt to express yourself a bit better...............

Who seems to be having a very difficult time comprehending any irony in that

    383861

Now I get it, "Yeah his name's OnePost but he's posted more than once" followed by a self-satisfied guffaw.

You were originally, and incorrectly, having a go at me for being sarcastic in my response to Den. Make your mind up, which one is it, sarcasm or irony?

If you weren't so intent on being pompous, I might be inclined to agree with your observations on Friedel, and try to illustrate with examples his apparent weaknesses when defending play from his left-hand side. Which makes the save from Van Nistelrooy's header all the more remarkable.

As it is, your moniker brings to mind a flaccid appendage.................

Queue more hilarity from the undereducated twerp and Freidel's lovechild.

By the way, Jansen plays for Bolton now, but I'm guessing that your avatar is neither ironic nor sarcastic but just another dimwitted display of hero worship.huh.gif Hope the smiley helps you understand.

  10. oh yeah and can you spell ard??

hard is the correct punctuation laugh.gif

    383838

withstupid.gifblink.gifmad.gifph34r.gif Hope that helps you through the comprehension challenges.

You're right, now I can see my mistake and the error of my ways. Friedel never makes any mistakes, he's impenetrable and never puts a foot wrong.

(For the benefit of Flopsy, the above is an example of sarcasm)

  11. what do you suggest?

    put enks in goal?

friedel is immense, the guy is top drawer!!

how many clean sheets has he had this season??

and i've seen countless times when he has won game after game for us . :rover:

    383828

What's up with you people? Can't you read?

"Although Freidel is undeniably going through a dip in form, HE WAS NOT AT FAULT for any of the "goals". For the McFadden missed opportunity I think he was."

Everton's goal wasn't shocking, they exploited our weakness. Arteta "won" them a free-kick and proceeded to deliver the ball exactly were it would hurt, and Beattie timed his run brilliantly. It was a good goal, dissappointing but not "shocking".

I think it's 7 clean sheets in the league, from which we have amassed 17 points. What's your point? I might say "How many times have we conceded more than 2" and lost 15 points. Clean sheets aren't solely down to the goalkeeper.

Do you have to be really 'ard to live on Stone Island?

  12. ooo sarcasm - the irony of your name hasnt gone amiss either.

And Friedal has been nowhere near as good as he was 3 seasons ago - hes still one of the best keepers in the business - unfortunately the defence is giving him no chance at the moment their goal was shocking as were the 2 scored by West Brom, one of which was the fault of Friedal who was rooted on his line

    383818

No matter how long you wait, some things never change.

What exactly are the credentials to be a moderator? It's obviously not a grasp of English nor an understanding of the game of football.

Where's the sarcasm that you refer to?

Finally, I'm confident that there's not even a hint of irony in your name.

  13. Just a few belated observations on Saturday's poor display.

Emerton chased down the ball that forced their keeper into making his error, other than that he provided little threat. On reflection I wish the keeper hadn't handled because maybe the ball would have broken for Emerton to put it into the empty net. Then again we would have been relying on Emerton to do it (remember free header at Craven Cottage)

It looked like we were employing zonal defending up to Beattie's goal then went to man marking immediately after. Everton were canny enough to exploit this for the goal as Neil was expecting Beattie to run into an offside position. As Cahill (showing all of his Millwall Championship team class) had done on the two previous occasions.

Although Freidel is undeniably going through a dip in form, he was not at fault for any of the "goals". For the McFadden missed opportunity I think he was.

Watching 45mins of the second half where Rovers let Everton retreat into their own half on losing the ball, then lumping a cross in to no-one in particular was absolutely infuriating. There didn't seem to be any sense of urgency, we seemed to be playing with all of the swagger and none of the quality of the top teams. In all honestly we're not that good yet.

Bringing Kuqi on was the wrong move, because the threat that he poses is bread and butter to experienced physical central defenders like Weir and Stubbs.

We were naive up front. The teams at the top of the division look for free kick's in and around the box and have players that can convert more often than not. Towards the end of the game we had 4 players on who are fast AND good with the ball at their feet (Bellamy,Bentley,Pongolle,Peter) but we never seemed to have a run at their defenders looking for the free-kick or even penalty.

Most of the other stuff, like the lack of communication at the back and bellamy going deep, has already been said.

Nervous again about Wednesday after that performance. Hopefully Sunderland will maintain their nothing-to-lose attitude and come out at us, and we can play in a "one more than you" style. Odds on for Stead's first goal?

  14. Talking to my mate who's a ST at Old Trafford. He has been to all the demo's etc and was saying that the Fans are thinking of setting up a break away club like Wimbledon fans did when they relocated. Don't know if it will happen but they seem pretty P***ed off.

Anybody else heard this tune pop into their head today ?

I know a fat old policeman

    He's always on our street.

A fat and jolly red-faced man

    He really is a treat

    He never can stop laughing

    He says he's never tried.

But once he did arrest a man

    And laughed until he cried!

Oh ho ho ho ho ho ho. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Oh ho ho ho ho ho ho. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Oh ho ho ho ho ho ho. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Oh ho ho ho ho ho ho. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

  15. How childish and narrowminded can anyone get. Alan Shearer was probably the finest player you are ever likely to see in a Rovers shirt. He should be given a wonderful reception.

The guy wanted to play for his home team which I find to be quite right. Alright it is hard to take because we only want him to be a total Rovers man, but that is because of the pleasure of enormous proportions that he gave us all and we cant bear him to show love for another club.

We should be eternally grateful for the service he gave to us, even turning his back on Manchester United which in its self is a commendable decision these days.

Supporters have to understand that football today is entirely different from days gone by and we have to expect players will move clubs more and more for whatever reasons but that does'nt mean they dont have a great affection for clubs they have played for.

So come on give him a reception worth the enjoyment he gave us all in the time he was here and thank him for giving up his time to help Tony Parkes have a night to remember.

He does'nt have to come you know.

Anybody else hear the melancholy sound of a solo violin ?

Alan Shearer - one of, if not THE finest player to play fer't Rovers. tinykit.gif

HOWEVER...........he DID drop us in it when he left, and you can no more dress up the FA Cup Medal comment than you can polish a turd. Which is a shame really, because Newcastle are desperate for something to display in their trophy cabinet wink.gif

  16. Sorry to disagree FourLanBlue (and I know I should have posted this on the other Tugs thread) but Tugay is not that creative anymore and IMO should not be in the side. He gives away far to many stray passes and doesnt often play a great forward pass. Everyone remembers the ball he played through for Cole away at Fulham last year but apart from that I can't remember him genuinely creating anything with a bit of magic for a few years now.

Whichever message board member said "In thirty years of watching Rovers he is undoubtedly far and away the best creative midfielder I have seen don the blue and white" as quoted on the front page of this site is either Tugay's dad or has been drinking too much Turkish beer. If were talking creative as in creating goals Berkovic was miles better.

Not sure its physically possible to sire children whilst still at junior school age.

Never drunk Turkish beer. Can you get it at Bargain Booze on Livesey Branch Road ?

Berkovich more creative than Tugay ? ................"You're havin a laff !!"

  17. Well.  Maybe that'll teach our very stupid fans NOT to bait the opposition.  No sooner had they given absolute S*IT to Robbie Blake (because he once played for Burnley for god's sake- who cares?) than he scored.  The look on his face as he walked slowly past our fans to celebrate said it all.

Then just to make doubly sure- the same morons started singing "If Heskey plays for England so can I".  Guess what happens again.

    Rules for fans:

    1.  Don't bait the opposition with "easy, easy" at 1-0.  We'll live to regret it.

    2.  Don't bait individual opposition players- they won't like it and we'll live to regret it.

    3. Don't gloat that WE'VE got a player (who's not even in the stadium) who used to play for them.  Especially when the wound is raw.  That stirs them to shout their team on (or in the case of 1 moron- to try to jump over to try to attack us!!!)  We'll live to regret it.

So until we're 3-0 up and there's only 5 minutes to go, be respectful and cheer our team on.  THEN give them sh*t.

I don't think we played any worse today then we've played before.  I don't think the substitutions were any worse.  I just think it was a game too far.

LOVED the Souness song though.  Apt, appropriate, witty.

    Are you for real ?

Where the f do you get off calling your FELLOW fans stupid and morons.

Only songs approved by you can be sung ?

Take your rules and stick them where the sun don't shine.

  18. Ive read it and I am still of the same opinion as are other members.

Playing well in three or four games a season is simply not good enough.

    Fortunately, you're not the manager.

Furthermore, if who to retain and who to release at the end of this particular season was determined by your criteria, then we would have a very thin squad indeed !!!!!

  19. Onepost

Tugay WAS the best passer of the ball by far at Rovers however this season he has consistently given the ball away, consistently passed the ball to the 12th man and invisible player and generally been the most inconsistent player in Blue and White.

He is not the Tugay of old and will NOT be at Ewood next season for the reasons stated above added to the fact tht he is TOO old and PAST it tinykit.gif

    1864roverite

I think you need to read this topic:

    http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php?showtopic=11799

NOT TOO OLD AND NOT PAST IT.

Savage or Tugay ? NO CONTEST

  20. Savage - for "Sometimes over the top" read liability and getting older and slower by the game.

Pedersen - for "get-into-scoring-positions-quality", what happened against Arsenal and City then ? West Brom have a fairly leaky defence, would it be fair to expect that this is a good opportunity for him to score another important goal, and which of our goals this season haven't been important ? We're on -8 GD.

Mokoena was never mentioned in the post that was originally referred to. That poster was suggesting that some players could be rested.

I happen to agree that Pedersen too should be rested because his contribution over the last few games hasn't been much to shout about.

Brownie, any chance of a reasoned reply you smartarse.

  21. Glad you are not the manager.

    Where the hell is pedz?

    Flitcroft and Tugay, you're crazy.

Is this the same "pedz" who hasn't managed to link up play up front positively in his last three outings?

    v. Arsenal - nothing

    v. Palace - OK scored a goal that was laid on a plate (but that he almost contrived to miss) and not much else.

    v. City - nothing bar long throws and the odd easily gathered corner.

This guy's hardly prolific ability to score goals is his only saving grace.

I myself will be somewhat dissappointed if Pedersen is still an automatic first choice next season.

Tugay - still the best passer of a ball in the side, can't understand why he didn't get on against City.

Flitcroft - better defensive midfielder than Savage (perhaps not better than Reid, who has improved immensely since treading on the ball against the Turkish no-marks)

You should have stuck by your name.

Thanks for your measured and considered counter argument.

I am assuming that your moniker is redolent of the pungent steaming stuff that you post on here.
