  1. There was a problem with standing yesterday at the match. The disabled supporters could not see and our steward was very upset that the head steward was not sending personnel over to deal with it. There were also other supporters, elderly and children who wanted to sit and had others standing in front of them and impeding their view. As has been said, it is illegal to stand, when will people get this into their heads?

However, it got worse. Shocked when we were told that someone was badly injured, even more so when we found out what had happened. The poor man, who like the rest of us had gone to support his beloved club and ended up losing his life. God rest his soul, prayers and thoughts for all who knew him and were close to him.

Those who attend football matches with the sole intention of getting completely drunk should take a long hard look at themselves.

Greco, can you not send this person a text? If not, send them a card. There is not much you can say when a loved person dies, but to know you are supported and people are thinking of you is some help. Let them know you are there for them, and if they need to talk you are there. The words will come. No person can truly understand the suffering of another as we are all different, but you can try.

Mike, so sorry about your nephew. ((((hugs))). So sad for you.

Thanks to Stoke fans for their posts. We are all football fans after all.

To Rovers fans - please don't let this stop your away support. We need to stick together and show everyone that we are good people and not let the idiots take over.

    Agree entirely.

Not attending the away games will play into the idiot's hands.

Why can't we have a brilliant, loud atmosphere in the away end (eg at Villa) without causing trouble?

  2. Theno "people mature away from the BBE..."

Get a grip, if everyone was like you Ewood would be even more silent. Nothing wrong with singing. I find some of your comments on here astounding.

RIP to him, an absolute travesty. Best wishes to the family and friends of the man. The same for you Preston Blue - I am deeply sorry for your loss.

  3. You've already crossed a very significant line by standing up! IT IS ILLEGAL! The thin end of this wedge is connected to fans standing without a doubt. Whether standing terraces are allowed or not is one thing but this is another matter. If there are no standing areas people must be made to sit down and that includes the numpties that follow MU who started the stupidity simply through defiant attitude.

To turn a blind eye to such is to move the line in the sand that Lord Taylor drew up through complete necessity after Heyschel and Hillsborough. Basically it is giving way to lawlessness.

If people are stood in front and behind without complaint, I don't see an issue. I'd never block the view of someone who wants to sit

  4. I'm copying Lees post from the official site, as I can't put this any better myself. All I will say at this time is that the thoughts of everybody is with the affected fan and his family and we all hope he pulls through.

    "

Whilst it is certainly disturbing what has happened today at the ground. Can I ask supporters that instead of posting what they saw on here that if they have any important information that may help that they call the Staffordshire Police on 01785 236211.

It is very easy for discussions to get taken out of context or be taken as fact (like the early reports on here that the chap was dead), so it might be better if any supporter who was unfortunate to witness this terrible event contacts the appropriate authorities."

I hope someone comes forward. When was the incident? Just after half time? Must have been horrible to witness - can't believe people are having to see this when they go to follow their team. Prayers are with the man and his family.

Fife Rover - It's okay, I can see why you may have misinterpreted my post - the issue is an incredibly sensitive one, and I can't blame people for their strong feelings. I'd have thought the same regarding the bin throwing, but it seems the people involved are too selfish to think of others. Someone with over 10 brain cells wouldn't think of throwing a bin around in such a packed area. I could barely put my hand in my pocket, never mind pick up a bin. It beggars belief.

  5. So how do you interpret his words that say "but I dont think they intended anyone to get hurt"? How can anyone start throwing a bin around in a densely packed concourse and not expect someone to get hurt. It is absolutely inevitable that someone is VERY likely to be hurt or seriously injured if they do that. Which is exactly what did happen. How could anyone other than a complete idiot expect any other outcome?

They are idiots. Like I said, they don't think of the consequences.

  6. Fair enogh Sambo. What you have just said there shows that you obviously think like myself and all the others on here that they are behaving very stupidly whilst under the influence of alcohol. But the question still remains as to how have we as a society arrived at this situation where large groups of people behave in these criminally irresponsible ways in such large numbers and so often. Violence fueled by drink and/or drugs has become the "norm" in virtually every town and city centre every weekend and is costing the earth in policing and NH time and facilities. And the worst aspect of it all is that because it has become the "norm" it is apparently accepted now as virtually inevitable and something that "just is". I cannot and never will accept that thinking. It is not inevitable simply because I and all people of my age and younger as well can easily remember when these things did NOT happen; even at weekends!!

I fully accept that there have always been instances of people being drunk and disorderly, but at the same time it was NEVER the norm. It was always a SMALL minority and the police would usually arrest the more obstropulous ones, while sending the more co-operative ones home to sleep it off. All done very peaceably. Whilst large scale fighting in pubs, clubs or in the streets was indeed a very rare occurence and when it occasionally did happen it was sure to make the front pages of the newspapers. And the reason why it did not happen very much was that the vast majority of the population was single mindedly horrified and outraged by any such behaviour and everyone knew it. They would quickly find themselves virtual outcasts in the community at large if they made a habit of loutish behaviour. That is what has changed over the last 50 years, and the politicians and educationalists have a lot to answer for their increasingly "head in the sand " approach to facing up to an increasing problem.

I agree, although being 17 I can't say I know that much of an issue to discuss possible solutions. Although going through towns at night is often intimidating, which shouldn't be the case.

On a footballing note, a lot of the good work done since the Taylor Report seems to be being undone. Recently, there have been more instances of football disorder. United fans at Barnsley/Birmingham, Rovers fans today / racist chanting, Burnley fans kicking off at Bolton.. the hooligan element is creeping back into football. Can't say I'm sure why.

I'm not against people having a drink, or even a bit drunk. It's when it starts to affect them in a negative manner that it is unacceptable. I'm sure people aren't naive enough to think I've never drank, but when I do I do so responsibly. Certain sections of society seem incapable of doing so.

  7. Am I right in believing this lot only go to away games and don't attend home games?

I think they don't attend home games. If so, where do they sit? I never see these sort of people in N05, unless they're dotted around and release their idiotic side when we go away. I love to sing at away games, love to stand at the back and am very passionate but never cross the line.

  8. I agree.

Sambo is a young lad but I have always found his posts well worth reading.

There were plenty of scrotes there today, but to me, those same people are the ones that now frequent Blackburn on friday and saturday night.

The new Blackburn Youth does not compare with the original.

Thanks, as I do with your posts :)

The whole thing is tragic, this shouldn't happen at football. There isn't excuses for bin throwing, or being way past the level of intoxicated. They're stupid, but some people are jumping to the conclusions that the incident was done by hooligans. Maybe they were intent on acting stupid, but I don't think for one second they intended to kill/seriously injure the man. Obviously if it was an attack, or done in anger (I heard on RoversMad that some were kicking off as they'd stopped selling beer) than they should be locked up for a very long time. However, it could be a case of people not thinking of the consequences of their actions and just acting in a typical drunk way (granted, a lot of people are above such loutish behaviour when drunk).

I just hope that the truth is uncovered and sufficient measures are taken.

By the way, I am not condoning the behaviour of a proportion of our fans at away games, but some people seem to be alluding that it was intentional, which at the moment is unfounded.

  9. How can you even think that? Please explain to all of us that don't follow the logic in your statement how exactly do people think that throwing a bin around in a crowd of people is "just acting the goat" or "just having a laugh" or any of the other pathetic excuses that are routinely trotted out today for what is actually criminally irresponsible loutish behaviour. How ANYONE can even begin to imagine that this sort of behaviour is "just fun" is beyond belief, and shows yet again just how far down the road to ruination society has gone over the last 50 years or so.

Seriously Sambo I am genuinely interested in hearing what you have to say by way of explanation and how you arrived at the conclusion you stated above (in bold).

I'm not saying I'd throw a bin around. But going to the away games, a lot of them are idiots, and in their drunken stupor (some of them are absolutely smashed) they do ridiculous things. It's wrong, they deserve to be punished, but I don't think they intended for anyone to get hurt - just their lack of a brain means they see it as acceptable behaviour. I never said it's "just fun", but I don't think there is sufficient evidence yet to suggest there was the intention to kill someone. I was told that the lads were (stupidly) throwing it amongst themselves, but who knows.

  10. People are jumping the gun a bit implying those involved are scum. Apparently the injured man was involved in the bin throwing (not sure if it's true though). I don't think there was any intention for anyone to get seriously hurt, it was (sadly) a bunch of ###### up lads acting the goat. Obviously if there was malice, the person needs to be severely dealt with, but I think people (including me) need to know the facts first.

    Pray he pulls through.

  11. The scene was set for perhaps the most hyped East Lancashire game in recent history, and it was the first encounter between the two teams in the Premier League. The Telegraph ran headlines on the game for weeks, and internet forums and schools/colleges became a battleground. To make it worse, the Dingles were actually above us. However, their away form was horrible, and we looked strong at home. Then it happened. This is my day...

Few bottles before the game, nervous as hell. Watched the 'Bring on the Clarets' DVD to get me pumped up, not that I needed it. Got to the ground two hours or so before kick off, to greet their coaches in (however we weren't allowed to give any offensive gestures, so after the first warning we were restricted to merely waving). I saw my mate on the coach who delighted in banging on the windows abusing me. Most of the fans on the coaches looked like typical Dingles though! Even made my way on Sky before the game; with my Brother screaming 'COME ON ROVERS'. Then after some milling about, off to the ground.

Had a pint inside, and joined in with the chanting in the Blackburn End lower tier concourse. After a bit of chanting, off to my seat. Wow, the noise was incredible. Everyone was up for it, chanting like I have never seen at Ewood. The game was a blur if I'm being honest. They scored a screamer, knew it was going to happen as soon as he got the ball. They went mental, everything seemed to go blank. It almost felt like an out of body experience, but a horrible one. Stood there, but didn't get angry or upset. I have no idea why.

Then, there was the wonderful fightback. Dunn scored, and chaos ensued. Then it was Di Santo's turn... I thought the referee had given a foul and didn't celebrate, then I realised and again it was mental. Ran around block N05 like a nutter, same for the third goal. Enjoyed baiting the scum, and felt amazing! The Second Half was grim, some good chanting but the team just defended, not really offering much going forward. They scored, and I have never fretted that much in my life. Burnley's pressure was kicked up a notch, and at one point it looked like Eagles would get a good shot away. After what felt like forever, the whistle went. What a feeling... then 'I gotta feelin' came on and everyone was going crazy, dancing and singing. Absolute jubilation.

Went home from there, after their coaches came past. Saw a few sheepish Dingles from college on the coach. Some tried giving stick at us, with one arse stuck to the window, some chants of "town full of p***s", but most looked dejected. Brilliant. Got home and had a few.

Overall, what a day. One of the best in my 17 year old life as a Rovers fan.

    Share your memories...

  12. Right guys, dilemna

Had a 360 for two years, played games such as Fifa, CoD, Pes, Gears, the usuals really.

    Until I got red lights.

Don't know whether to buy a PS3 or a 360 again (bought preowned - no warranty).

If it helps, I play online quite a lot, mainly on Call of Duty and Fifa.

Just concerned the 360 is feeling a bit dry, don't know whether I want a fresh console.

The majority of my friends have Xbox's, although with the PS3 Slim out-selling the Xbox 10-1, maybe it will change. Don't play online with friends much anymore, none seem to go on.

What do you think? Please, no arguments, just based on what I said :)

  13. ....yeah, about 30 in the top corner (N01) make an effort. The rest are like victorian children......seen but not heard <_< the BBE is pretty p1ss poor these days vocal-wise.

Not bad in N05... I for one definitely sing...

Contemplating eventually moving to the Darwen End when it gets going... want somewhere where I can stand all game B)

All in all, most of the noise comes from the BBE, some from the Riverside and its too early to tell with the Darwen End... seem okay though to be fair

  14. Taken from another thread:

I recall being told a story about a lad that used to drink in the Clifton arms and later worked in the Jubilee that jumped the fence in the corner of the riverside late 70’s, he ran alone into the 5000 burnley fans in the darwen end, they backed off, must have thought he was carrying a grenade! Then he was saved by the police, fined and they had a whip round in the pub to pay his fine.

Think that story is mentioned earlier on this thread.. funny story though, sounds like a madhead!

Anyone got any photos/videos of that b3ll end Dixie Dingle running on the pitch to try and take Super Rob out?

Hardly any videos of the last encounters, the only good fan videos seem to be Ozzie's from before the game at the Turf.

  15. What actual trouble was there in the ground? People got on the pitch, but it isn't like this is the first time.

Other fans have done it before and received much less media coverage. I am not condoning it at all, but I didn't see it kick off in the ground?

However, the fighting outside the ground was unforgivable, although the fact that it continued after kick off proved none of thsoe involved were fans of either club, just bored men looking for trouble.

  16. Seperate to the champions league thread but as there's threads related to other individual matches I see no reason not to post it here.

Usually I like to see a side that qualified as champions win the CL. Barcelona finished 2nd last year. However I'll be making an exception and supporting them against Man U on the 27th.

    That's great. :D

    Unpredictable too
