Yeah, that's how I'm rationalising the heartbreak too. Losing 10-9 to City on penalties would be awful!
As we walked out the ground disappointed we all said hope they draw city and get stuffed .
The positive was we avoid a costly Wembley trip and enjoy the play off final trip more- 2

Hope he likes the look of the place. Declaring an interest slightly as I work at the uni - but it's a great city to be a student in.
Cheers
he has an offer but has not yet visited , so the cup draw was perfect opportunity to do so.
I think he will like the city

Just enjoying a pint in Sheffield right now (I live close by). Driving in about 20 minutes ago, 5 Rovers fans trying to dodge the traffic crossing the ring road.
The invasion has started early.
Arriving tomorrow coinciding with son’s open day at the uni

Where did you used to stand on the old ground den?
I started off on Riverside then moved into Bburn End, but I did like being on Darwen End for a period in the late 80's when gates went up and away teams got the Darwen End enclosure.
Started nuttall street stand with Grandad 1975 then riverside stand with uncle 1978 then riverside terrace until it closed then went into the enclosure
had season tickets in JW upper for a few years
riverside terrace the favourite

Force of circumstances found us in a pub belonging to the Sizzling or Sizzlers chain - not sure which. A word of warning this was positively the worst pub food I've eaten. I'll never go in one of their pubs again. Truly awful.
sizzling Pubs, run by the large plc Mitchells and Butlers - crap

Now we are talking!
5) Burnley 0 Rovers 2. December 2000. So much build up and hype, but we then gave them a lesson. Ball being sent off for that lunge and doing the walk of shame to the Rovers fans topped it off!
4) PNE 0 Rovers 1. May 2001. Rovers fans packed in to the paddock terrace going potty when Jansen scored, Flitcroft saying 'we did it for Jack' on his tshirt. 'Rovers are back, Rovers are back hello hello1'
3) Rovers 4 Derby county 2. May 1992. Two nill down after 10 minutes, blokes in the Riverside walking out, others almost in tears as it would be 3 play off failures in 4 years. Then Sellars, Newell and 2 from Speedie got us in control!
2) Rovers 1 Newcastle 0. May 1995. Ive never known tension like it, Newcastle bossed the game, Flowers had 'bottle', Shearer got the goal. Almost there!
1) Liverpool 2 rovers 1. May 1995. The away end was a nighmare, people shouting 'Cole's missed a penalty', 'United are winning' etc etc, Redknapp scored.... blur. Greatest day of my life.
Matty
Probably same 5 for me except i d put carling final ahead of the promotion game and perhaps the dingle FA replay ( just for best ever atmosphere at modern ewood ) ahead of the 0 to 2 game

For the London based members, had some great BBQ last night. Chicago Bar and Grill in Knightsbridge. Had been there once before, had the pulled pork and was a bit disappointed. The group I play volleyball with is very international (shocking for London), so we're starting a once a month gathering to sample restaurants/food or the different countries. There were 10 of us and everyone loved it. Ended up having the brisket which was absolutely delicious and finished with a delicious Apple Pie (which led to an argument about the phrase "American as Apple Pie" with the grandchild of Canadian apple farmers...). Most people had the ribs and loved them as well. Better than Bodeans, would probably give it about 9/10, especially with the great service we had. Only ended up being 40 quid per person with drinks, which was pretty good considering all of the food and drinks we had.
American used to go to the original chicago rib in knightsbridge....been to the new one as above ( 18 months old ) its ok but wont be there long as the rent is so high they are losing money..they get their meat from a farm in wiltshire owned by Jody Scheckter ( not sure on spelling ) the ex F1 driver
Just had lunch at cha cha moon, ganton street , off carnaby street, high quality pan asain cuisine at low prices...very quick service, your international crowd will love it

Yes, you cannot take away from the fact that his contribution was a major factor to us winning the Fulham match.
He's put some effort in recently to secure a move
-
Who says he's not match fit though? He's looked better than the rest of the forwards in the last few games.
Perhaps they need to get fitter and should have been called in with Benni at 7am??
Or - more likely - perhaps they need to play their football with some freedom, and ignore the instructions from the idiot manager.
Which it appears is the crux of the matter here. Benni has had the nerve to be imaginative with the occasional corner or free kick in the attacking third, and use his footballing brain. Such inventiveness has forced him out of the club.
Tris - we agree on a lot but no on this
FACTS as I see it;
Since the Chelsea saga - he has been taking his money and not been 100% focused professional
Only him ( not the manager ) has returned unfit and over weight every season since
Yes he is our most talented player when 100%, but for 2 years we have just had the odd moment
He clearly knows that he can at 32 yrs get more money in the bright lights and sort out his retirement
Ideally would i like a fit motivated benni yes - reality he has nt indicated to this manager or the previous he has any intention to do that
Save his wage and get in someone else ie Eider from Monaco
It is the curse of the modern day footballer which is why I and many others think why should we pay hard earned money to support these egotistical, its all about me, no loyalty, brain dead guys anymore....Attendances will drop and hopefully the bubble will burst soon
Lets get back to rules of 8 englishmen per team and local lads playing for their local teams

Mrs CLB and I organise a Ribble Valley pub crawl with a coach each summer. This year's route :-
Quick pint in Darwen - Bonny Inn, Salesbury - Shireburn Arms, Eagle & Child, Bayleys Arms, all Hurst Green - Red Pump, Bashall Eaves - Parkers Arms, Newton in Bowland - Higher Buck, Waddington Arms, Lower Buck, all Waddington. Evening meal in Waddington.
Vary the route each year, so in the past have visited - Sun Inn, Tillotson Arms, both Chipping - Hark to Bounty, Slaidburn - Moorcock, Waddington Fell - Aspinall Arms, Three Fishes, both Mitton - the four pubs in centre of Whalley -
There's half a dozen from Manchester usually and they can't believe the scenery and beauty of the area.
Nice!
CLB proud to say been in every one of those pubs many times being brought up in the Ribble valley, you may wish to do Lower Buck and Waddington Arms in Waddinton rather than the Higher Buck!!
Re your pre Trip, between 1975 and 1990 the talbot was the number 1 pub in Chipping, but once Wilf and Marie left the Sun took over
Enjoy

We had lunch at the Inn at Whitewell yesterday. Obviously it's a fabulous location, and the food was very good as you'd expect. The only possible downside is that some of the patrons seem to think they deserve priority service due to the fact they've got a Jag / TVR / Range Rover in the car park. This may have been accentuated yesterday as there was a wedding taking place at 4pm.
But the food is good enough to block out any downside. Certainly not overpriced either.
Tris Im a bit biased as I lived in Whitewell for 5 years, so knew the Inn in its old days and was even there when during a storm the kitchen subsided and collapsed into the river. My brother had his 21st there and I had my wedding there in the church next door and reception in the dining room, 6 years ago before the recent refurb, so the place holds many a memory for me
Personally think its great and a majical spot to rival anything the Yorkshire Dales can throw at us

Seems like yesterday..
was on the terrace Nuttall street, there were about 12 lads in front of me who did not cheer when the first goal went in, the steward clocked them and a police man walked them through the red gate in the fence and off to the darwen end...2 of them stayed on avoiding the police and looked well glum by the end!
