Theres not much else to say though. His goals steed us to safety, and he's helped the development of Stead. The original point that he didn't do is best is just wrong.

You can tell there's no mods awake
Everyone's making hay while the sun shines
Could go on 'til the cows come home this ....
They'll have no beef with this. Everybody loves a pundown.

Isn't it about time all this Cole business was put out to grass?
You graze a good point. Lets just leave it be.
-
Its just sour grapes. Why couldn't he just moo-ve without everybody starting to hurl abuse?
-
Bullocks.... he didn't have the desire when he played for us....good he got rid.
You can repeat that till the cows come home mate. He was a quality player. Simple as.
-
Emerton didn't come to play at right back. And, to be honest, him being a player of such potential, I'd rather have him around than not at all.
-
Funny thing that dawned upon me whilst watching the finals - Chelsea have just bought Paulo Ferriera for too much from Porto. And Porto are replacing him with a far better player in Seiteridis.
There was a shot of Abramovich looking pensive during the match, maybe he arrived at the same conclusion as me!
I was thinking the same. Even Miguel (whom Newcastle are rumoured to be interested) is a far cheaper and better option than Ferreira.
£13m - could be next seasons Grabbi!
I'm sure Mourinho is aware of how good Ferriera is, and has judged him on his time that he has played for him at Porto, not in the European Championships...

We have ambitions and aspirations. We have the ambition of staying in the Premiership and the aspirations of becoming regular Champions League place contendors. That's far more likely to happen if we gradually build up the squad and not spend money we don't have on a tall defender. It's also far more likely to happen if we don't go for broke and end up getting relegated. I'm sure Leeds fans aren't comforted by the fact that "at least we were ambitious".
I'm pretty sure I'm wasting my time explaining it to you though, because you've clearly made your mind up.
-
I'd rather watch us play lower mid-table football for 2 seasons than see us get tot eh champions league semi in one and get relegated the next.
It may be exciting initially, but it just ain't clever.

And a big clap to those people!.... take money from Rovers and put it into the coffers of the opposing team, the genius if it
Their job isn't to provide Rovers with as much money as possible. They pay to enjoy whatever match they're watching. Financially, it isn't the best thing for Rovers, but people shouldn't be criticised for it. Its all personal preference.

The fact is that the keeper jumped into Terrys arm!!!! It was no foul.
If it had been at the other end and a goal was given you'd have been absolutely furious.
These things happen. I wish it'd have been a goal, and think it should have been, but we just have to get on with it. The treatment the ref has got since has been out of order, really.

Brian Clough wasn't it? Maybe it's true, but make it your own death and not someone else's.
Bill Shankley
Bill Shankly.
Coming from an era when goalkeepers were not the "untouchables" that they are today, the great man would no doubt have had a robust view of last night's events.
With regard to Swiss referee Urst Maier's performance, it is worth recalling one of his other classic quotes:
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they do not know the game."
Regarding; 'Football's not a matter of life and death, it's more important than that'.
Bill Shankley actually...ahem...'recycled' the quote. It was originally first uttered by an American Football coach, whose name I can't remember but maybe some of the American posters on here may know who it was .
Was it Lombardi?

Just catching up this thread. Revidge I understand exactly where you're coming from. Rovers is gut wrenching emotion....that's the difference
Beaten by two France goals in the last two minutes; the agony and drama of another penalty shoot-out. How much gut-wrenching emotion do you want?
Looking back over the years, I've had far more kick-the-cat moments with England than I have with Rovers.
The problem with England is the hope, because it always promises to be fulfilled but never is. With Rovers, I do not expect to reach the promised land, so I am never disappointed.
prem title ,worthy cup winners ...JIM YOU REALLY DO TAKE THE PISH.
WHAT WOULD YOU LLIKE US TO WIN BEFORE YOU ARE CONTENTED?
That isn't the point he was making at all though.

IMO it was the decision by Sven not to bring on Heskey. This isn't a revisionist theory dreamt up after the event - it was my thought at the time.
As more of a Western historian, I would claim that Sven was an important leader, but the way he played was terminally flawed. The left wing was not strong, and it has never been strong. I can't see why people keep suggesting it.

I think we all owe Lofty a big apology

England playing in a major tournament helps unite the country. It gets casual observers involved in football.
It's not a disturbing phenomenon at all. I can't believe some of the balls I read on here sometimes.
And once the tournament's over then a lot of people will have no interest in footy until the next one, that's the way it is. Some people think there's shame in being a "plastic" football fan, as if it's some sort of black mark against your family name. Pathetic.
Absolutely spot on. Word-for-word.

A quid on England to win 2-1, Owen to score first. Harshest way to disallow £40, ever.

For the benefit of those who would actually like to read Eddie's post rather than stare at a big, square block of text:
When I said it was a shame Italy was out as they were Italy I admitted that many would not like this. My point was, despite the fact that they have not played the best football at the tournament so far, with that being an understatement, they are Italy.
Like it or not, as an English supporter, I think I would enjoy England winning the tournament by beating teams like Italy, France, Germany, Spain and Portugal than the likes of Greece, Denmark and Sweden.
This is taking nothing away from those teams, they have made it there on merit, and I'm not saying that your history or your size should in any way allow you to progress to the next stage. I was merely saying, I would like to see the "best" teams left in the tournament.
Italy didn't deserve to go through, though I think many on here are saying that they played much worse than they did. I will stand by my point that had they taken more of the chances that they had in the Denmark and Sweden games than we would now be considering them one of the potential threats in the tournament, having said this, they failed to take their chances, and I'm not saying that this is unlucky or anything, it is simply part of football.
I said exactly the same thing this year in the Champions League, and I thought exactly the same thing during the last World Cup. I like to see the "big" teams play each other, though I do expect that they will play the best football when they did this, Italy have failed to live up to pre-tournament expectations of performance and results.
I would like to point out though, lets just say France hadn't had such a good final 3 minutes against England, Mornar had taken his chance for Croatia, and Trezeguet's goal had been ruled out for handball, they would look very similar to Italy wouldn't they? Now are any of you saying that perhaps France doesn't deserve to be where they are?
At the end of the day, Italy came very close to scoring goals that would have changed many of your opinions about them, I'm not an Italian supporter, I just find this interesting from a footballing perspective.
Oh and I suppose that English supporters wouldn't know what it's like to watch a team that sits on 1-0 leads, or do they remember England's tactics after the 38th minute of the France game?
And I do apologise in advance for any of those who see my opinions and posts as "crap"
-
But please, take the Italian team that competed in this tournament on its OWN merits. They played 3 forwards and played the most complete football of the tournament in the first half against Sweden.
I did this. The number of forwards they played isn't a factor for me. One was the woeful Christian Vieri, who looked about as world class as I do on the park. Another was Del Piero - a shadow of his former self. They wouldn't have looked any worse with Ciccio himself playing up front instead.
The only plus point was Cassano. But even he was overshadowed by Tomasson and Larsson. There's no doubting they deserved to go out. 45 minutes of good football about of 270 just isn't enough. They only scored three goals all tournament, and when Sweden were there for the taking they took the negative option of trying to shut up shop.
I won't miss them. Judging them by their own merits in this tournament, I'm glad the boring wastes of time are gone.

Everton might just sell for the right price.
Everton can't afford to sell Rooney. Lets imagine he earns £20k a week, if they were to receive a £25-30m bid for Rooney that would simply give them cash to spend on players, it wouldn't provide them with the money to fund those new players wages. Far better for Everton to keep Rooney and try to attract quality players to work with him. Five new players simply means 5 new salaries to cover. Even if they only got £10k per week it still means Everton increasing their wage bill.
Since when was money, usually something which goes towards funding things, not a useful asset in funding players wages?
It doesn't all have to go on signing players. If Moyes had any wit he'd use if for fees AND wages.

Dear oh dear oh dear. Anyone watching Russia/Portugal?
A Russian 'hooligan' on the pitch trying to attack the ref due to their keeper being sent off?
Can you just imagine if he was English?!?!
How much press will this incident get in the morning?
Probably quite a lot in Russia.
Shush, don't shoot down his point! Then how else will we revel in the fact that somebody causing trouble wasn't actually English?

Can't wait for Le Chuck's comments
Word has it he's furious.

How can a Southampton fan not have heard of their long-term transfer target Javier De Pedro? And since when did Tugay score a free kick against them?
2-1 Rovers. Stead to score early. Phillips to equilise. Dickov to net the winner.
