Think the reaction to @Sparks Rover merely questioning the evidence of whether Markanday is good is totally unfair. The usual lines, the boring repeated Whiteman/Mols/Preston jokes, "have a day off" "here we go" "now you are just trying to be difficult" etc are totally unjustified towards a very valid question.

I am cautiously optimistic, he seems highly rated, Spurs wanted him to stay and 'm happy that its a long term deal. Looking forward to seeing him play. But I do get why there are question marks seeing as he has literally played about 10 minutes of actual football.

How much 'actual football' had Khadra got before he signed? Honestly don't know the answer but i'm guessing not much more.

I'd say his lack of first team minutes are more coincidental of his coming of age coinciding with somewhat of a turbulent period for Spurs. His lack of loan minutes more than likely mismanagement/insurance incase the 1st team had a spate of injuries or the like. Correct me if i'm wrong but Butterworth is older and also hasn't been on loan anywhere or had many 1st team minutes.

The fact the lad wasn't happy with the prospect of staying at a 'big club' being loaned out until he was 25 or sitting on the bench never really establishing himself shows he has great character and wants to make a success of himself. We should be celebrating that seeing as it's that hunger that has got us where we are at the moment.

It’s not his skill I’m questioning which is equal to his predecessors in the yellow shirts. It’s his diving and rolling around that I can’t abide, which is where he shows no class.

Also equal to his predecessors, you remember the ball that was 'launched' into Rivaldo's face at WC2002?

iFollow was centrally run and even live mixed away from Ewood Park. Pre-game adverts would cut off chat between the commentators at random. Amongst a host of other issues I thought iFollow was tosh.

You honestly saw the best of iFollow, it was an absolute shambles in its first two seasons, luckily the standard is much higher recently, but so was the price.

  4. For the international viewers, the early iFollow days truely were awful (one camera, no replays or commentary, terrible buffering). I haven't personally had any issues with iFollow in recent times so really hope there will be few to no teething issues with the new system.

Completely hypothetical but would anyone do a straight swap with Southampton with dack going one way and Reed and Gallagher coming to ewood ?

(There's no real transfer stories to discuss so why not )

No. I think if Dack leaves we need to use the money to strengthen our defence first then whatever is left we could put towards Gally or the like.

  6. Absolute dinosaurs some of you lot!! Despise Venkys and everything they stand for yet slate the local owner of a small club trying to build his club and expand the outreach to secure the future for the club. As for Stanley being rivals on or off the pitch i think you need to wake up and realise what year it is.

Holt never stated that Hyndburn is for Stanley fans only, simply that when it comes to the community trust it's a lot harder to get kids and new fans on board because, A. they receive a fraction of money from the PL that Rovers do, B. Rovers following for obvious reasons stretches further afield than Stanleys.

Do i believe Rovers should be able to take their work into the community wherever they feel fit? Absolutely, but why should this stop Holt wanting a bigger portion of the marketshare and a bit more to spend to help him do that.

    I agree.

Others won’t though, your narrative doesn’t suit a vision of an unambitous club and manager who cannot recruit. How others can say that in the face of us reportedly spending 10m+ in our return to the championship and developing a competitive squad that’s not doing to badly in the league.. beyond me.

Sorry @K-Hod - I’m not quoting them all, but this thread is an embarrassing example of the over entitlement of modern football support!

Andy Holt highlights this point perfectly in some of his twitter threads. Fans expect instant results, in turn owners spend money that isn't sustainable for the club, gambling on the chance they might make the big time. Rovers did this when we first came down from PL, handing out silly wages and fees and it backfired and we got stung by FFP which undoubtedly stalled our progression. If the voices in India decided to stop bankrolling us we could have been the ones staring down the barrel of a gun. I want to this club live on forever and if it means doing things little by little then so be it.

Could have been much worse. The first priority is to ensure you don't end up weaker and I don't think we have, though I don't think we're ending it stronger either.

Good to be sat in a position of relative comfort watching from afar as the likes of Bolton and Wigan scurry around for reinforcements in a desperate bid to survive.

Frustrating nonetheless that we're in our best league position in quite some time, upwardly mobile, with the slim chance of kicking on further and yet we have missed or turned down the chance to add to what we have, either to try and kick on this season or to put more building blocks in place for the longer term.

Mowbray spoke about a multi window plan and building job so it seems odd to me that he's now turning round bemoaning the cost of players. It doesn't appear from afar that we've really followed much of a strategy other than to have a short list of potential options and hope that they come available late on at a subsidised rate. That's not really what Mowbray's comments on building long term seemed to suggest he was after.

Im sure TM will be frustrated just as you are, no doubt Gallagher was his main target but Southampton weren't playing ball until they got someone else in, but that couldn't happen until they got rid of Austin who they wanted 10mill for. I'm sure TM had money to spend and we could have had bids accepted for BA, CA but we would have been offering them a packet of crisps and a pint in the blue bar after the match. It's all well and good spending big money on transfer fee but with that comes silly wages and sometimes even more silly agents fees.

As i mentioned previously, if anything we are overachieving at the moment for our first season in the championship, very few teams go back to back. I think TM has been smart and saved his money, if we don't make the play offs, it's hardly a big deal, we have a whole summer to boost the squad for next season. Sheff Utd are the perfect example of this.

Yeah just a Champions League winner who is captain of his country and another player that has an abundance of Championship experience (including a promotion) who was a regular starter in the premier league last season.

Former glories mean nothing, we've been stung with that more than once.

Just been on SSN... 3 rising to 4.

Either way, BB sounds like a steal compared to that.

Think people need to calm down on the whole ambition stuff, we were out priced, simple as that, instead of panic buying anyone for the sake of it we shut up shop early.

Correct me if i'm wrong but Boro haven't done anything this window either and even the clubs that have made signings, they are hardly going to change the shape of the league.

We got to where we are with this squad, there is no reason why we cant push on with this squad and make the play offs. If we don't its our first season in the championship and if anything we have overachieved up to this point.

  11. Personally do think we will see Chapman play this season, can only imagine TM means, he is not ready to be playing constantly for fitness concerns or even the worry that he may re injure himself. Think they will have him in the gym working on conditioning and getting a run out for the 23's for the match fitness. Last month of the season is my guess, give us something extra for that final play off push.

Would they have been due compensation, including a sell on fee, should he have left in the summer when his contract was up as he’s only 21? Could be a reason.

Correct. Would have to pay them regardless, the tribunal fee in the summer could be more than a transfer fee now seeing as it is based of previous experience + future potential.
