  1. Bill "Selwyn Froggitt" Maynard could often be seen at Filbert Street and latterly the Crispdome, watching his favourite team Leicester City until his ill health started around 2003. I understand that he has had a series of strokes.

Somehow, I dont think you have read all the posts on this topic. Please see my earlier posting December 12th. This post has nothing at all to with Selwyn Froggitt

  2. I dont understand some of these criticisms - there is Rovers merchandising in shop including hats, scarves badges so whats the problem? Might be a good idea to go and check it out before commenting.

A few years ago before Sports Soccer took over, the Rovers shop was great for Christmas presents like mirrors, glasses, wine goblets, bottles of wine, pictures of the ground, etc. etc. Now it is mainly cheap clothing that shrinks went washed once and a few shirts and hats. Not very satisfactory for what should be a club shop.

  3. Me too.

I think Steve McMahon got sent off at Anfield, Howard Gayle got him sent off and smirked irresistably. They were still too good for us with 10 men then - anyone who thinks Chelsea are a good side should've seen Liverppol from about 76 to 1991 they were the best domestic club side we've ever produced.

The chap who said the ball girl's name was Maynard is spot on - she was the daughter of late Selwyn Froggit/Greengrass actor Bill Maynard who lived in Helmshore

You are quite correct when you say she is the daugther of Bill Maynard, but not the Heartbeat character of "Greengrass". Her Father is Bill Maynard, a local Blackburn guy who is a regular contributor to Touchline tales in the Lancashire Telegraph and a committee member of Blackburn Sunday Football League

  4. As i said eddie, it couldn't get any worse. The more i hear on Radio Rovers and from you on Five Live the more annoyed i am getting at Dermot and his inept performance!

Pathetic to Sublime, it's a game of 2 halves! Lets hope we can take this into the Nancy game.

Not too sure why you are blaming the referee.Just exactly what did he do wrong.? If you are referring to the 1st goal, that certain members of the CIS stand seemed to think may have been off-side, that is down to the assistant, and the referee would not over rule in that quadrant. The sending off of Henchoz was unfortunate but Mr Gallagher had no choice but to produce a red card. So why was is performance inept? The main culprits were the Rovers players themselves, certainly in the first half.

  5. To the best of my knowledge the following testimonials have been played at Ewood Park since 1960:

April 24th 1961 Bill Eckersley. Rovers against Bill Eckersley Select X1

Ocober 20th 1969 Bryan Douglas. Oppenents -International X1

December 2nd 1969 Ronnie Clayton- Oppenents International X1

May 16th 1977 Mick Heaton & Andy Burgin- Oppenents Manchester City

    May 1st 1978. Stuart Metcalfe. Oppenents-Everton

May 5th 1980. Derek Fazackerley. Oppenents-Preston North End

    May 18th 1983. Tony Parkes. Oppenents-Everton

    May 16th 1984. Norman Bell.Oppenents-Burnley

    May 14th 1985. Fred O'Donoghue. Oppenents-Northern Ireland

May 12th 1987. Glenn Keeley. Oppenents- Preston North End

Aug 19th 1988. Simon Garner. Oppenents- Newcastle United

    September 11th 1990. Noel Brotherston-Oppenents Manchester City

    October 10th 1992. Terry Gennoe. Oppenents-Aberdeen

    May 18th 2003. Simon Garner. Oppenents-Blackburn Rovers X1

May 17th 2005. Tony Parkes. Oppenents. Tony Parkes select X1

In addition there was a testimonial for John Byrom played at Burnden Park on November 6th 1978, between

Rovers and Bolton and on July 28th 1993, a testimonial was held for Ally McCleod at Ayr United between Ayr and Rovers

  6. I don't think anyone's given Savage a proper mention but I thought he had his best game for Rovers on saturday. A few more games will see his match fitness improve and he will be a key player for us this season.

At the moment Robbie Savage is nothing more than liability to the club. He is fully aware of the £50,000 fine hanging over the club, and yet in two matches so far he has got himself cautoned for poor challenges. (and please no excuses, about poor decisions. Both cautions were fully warranted)

  7. According to the official web site there is an additional train running from Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central on semi-Final day. Anyone managed to find out any more details? The train-line number is "unaware"!

This is a direct train from Manchester Piccadilly at 06.57 arriving at Cardiff at 10.29. The normal return fare is £43.80 although an Apex fare booked 7 days in advance will cost £29. For an Apex fare you have to stipilate an exact return train. Two choices are 15.44 or 16.44 from cardiff arriving at Manchester at 19.13 or 20.07 respectively

  8. Following my faxed application sent on Tuesday to the ticket office, I was very pleased with the excellent service. I received a telephone call this morning from a young lady at the ticket office who gave me options of exactly where I wanted to sit. Went for 2 tickets at £35 each in Lower Tier Block L7 in the BT stand. Will be sent within a few days by registered mail.

After all the adverse publicity on previous ocassions, it was very gratifying to see they can help when required.

  9. On that page there in the bottom left corner, there's a bit where it's advertising rooms for the weekend of the semi's for around £85 if I remember, with a contact number.

This is a trip being run through the Lancashire Evening Telegraph with a hotel booked in SWINDON. They will though take you in by coach to the ground and back out again to the hotel

  10. It's the tickets for the match that I'm worried about. How much am I looking at do you guys reckon?

My information is that the tickets will be in a 3-tier price band of £25, £35 or £45
