I keep reading Chris martin this and that.. But there's no suggestion at all he's a target.

You are correct. That was just a name suggested here by someone who said he fit the profile.

So far the only "real" striker links is Nhcema of Man City on loan (Alan Nixon) and Sam Gallagher (Rich Sharpe replied in a tweet that he could be a target).

I would be very happy with that but how would it be in Boros interest to agree to such a deal?

Tribunal would apply given his age. Boro would never agree to a loan unless a new contract is signed. So probably has to be a sale. A lot of deal on deadline days if often dependendant on selling club getting players in first, Chapman can very well be one of those given he has been on the bench.

We desparatly need a targetman.. I haven't even seen us linked with any.. Does TM feel we don't need one?

If you had read the links being posted to you, you would have read that "A striker is top of Mowbray’s wishlist" according to local journalist Rich Sharpe.

Under Mowbray, very little leaks out as far as linked players

If we sign Chapman, in addition to Armstrong, how exactly have we improved on last seasons league one team?

We get them for a full season. They didn't even play at the same time. Palmer has come in as an upgrade on Payne who only were here for half a season. Davenport and Rothwell has given more depth.

The whole premise of that question is that we don't add anybody else which we certainly will.

Also, not saying it means anything, but Harry Chapman has just uploaded a photo of Danny Graham (who he’s sitting opposite) onto his Instagram story...

Love that Champman never changed his twitter profile. Still with Blackburn background and the bromance image with him and Dack

    Wheres your Norwood figure from?

    http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/08/08/report-leeds-united-close-to-signing-brightons-oliver-norwood-fo/

Albeit I didnt realise he was close to signing for Leeds.

If Martin is "not great" (proven Championship goalscorer who can hold the ball up) I'd suggest your expectations are a little high.

Ojo has been suggested to a few teams on loan.

Agree on Martin. Has scored over 10 goals last 4 seasons in the Championship (20,18,14,10). In addition he is good focal point for attacks and can hold the ball up. Would expect him to be on big wages though and I think he has some years left on his contract. In addition he is 30 so not a long term replacement for Graham. A loan would be interesting.

Bids for Bauer, Trapp.. You get this from HITC site? I've seen nothing official.

    Here you go:

Trapp bid confirmed by Sky Sports:

Also here with quotes by manager and player himself:

    Bauer

    Charlton manager Bowyer quoted:

“Obviously Blackburn keep coming in, but the situation hasn’t changed and it isn’t going to change.

I've heard it suggested TM had to plead for the funds for Armstrong, as a special case. There may be funds remaining, but IMO it'll only be wage funds for loans.

    As I say, had again.

    Venkys out.

So how do you explain the million pound bid for Trapp? More begging? We know there has been several bids for Bauer as well. These are the only ones we know about because their clubs made it public, most likely been more bids.

Venky's has been awful owners, so it's comfortable to stay in that world view. The evidence however suggest that they've done right by Mowbray since he joined. No key players have been sold, in fact they have extended their contracts. Money has actually been spent the last two seasons on players. I get it's hard to believe when you have been burned though...

The chance of a deal tomorrow must be very low. No money left.

He never said or insinuated that he felt that Mowbray was a liar. In fact he made specific reference to who he would blame if we dont get what we need in the market, ie the owners.

Even if Mowbray feels he has the money, the owners have the final say, until the ink is dry on the new signings contract any promises from them mean nothing, considering what theyve done in the past.

We will be able to judge the window in 24 hours, both in terms of what is spent and what has been done with the money. But please stop spreading things like people think Mowbray is a liar, no one said that.

This is getting boring. Mowbray is even anwered today "Yes, definetly" when asked if their was money left. We have already spent 2.5 million, in addition there was 1.2 mill bid for Trapp after Armstrong signed. So the only way for not calling him a liar is implying that he might believe it, but you don't.

I wish the whole thing just shut tomorrow.

What do we have another 4 games before the 31st?Those points could be crucial and If we want to do anything this season then we need to keep the momentum that we built up last season.

We don't have enough attacking threat yet for me.Graham won't be lasting the 90 in many games

Agreed. The way it is set up now has no effect. Mowbray has several times hinted about the loan/permanent option so I think his timescale for the 3-4 extra players are 31 August. Still expecting one or two to arrive Tomorrow though.

Sorry but I fail to see how we are going to sign the 4 or 5 players we need to be a reasonable force in the championship this season by the Thursday deadline. We've been had again.

    Venkys out.

Mate, we can sign players untill 31 August. Doesn't have to be within deadline tomorrow. Clubs will just call it a loan with permanent transfer agreed at later date. Similar to the DJ Campbell deal.

    Highlights and Lowlights

(A justification for the main events above)

    5.        A beautiful ball into the box beats all the Rovers defenders and Edwards scores a neat  header. Williams should have done better I feel.

    14.     Excellent hold up play by Graham.

    19.     A looping free kick from Smallwood reaches Lenihan who directs his header back across goal, Williams flicks on and the keeper fails to palm the ball clear. Graham lashes it into the net.

27       Great chase back by Bennett who wins the ball and lays it off.

28       Under pressure, Graham flicks a beautiful ball down the wing. Williams chases and his perfect cross is smashed into the net by an on-rushing Dack. Great goal.

    66.     Poor decision by Mulgrew. Appealing desperately and unsuccessfully for offside, he allows the Ipswich man to play a nice ball across the face of goal……no one there to finish off

               fortunately.

    67.     A good chase and challenge by Nuttall wins a throw which he takes quickly. Dack runs on to the ball and eventually Evans puts the ball into the stands!

    77.     Dack receives the ball on the touchline, swivels expertly to put in a dangerous cross. It’s cleared but eventually Nyambe passes through to Dack who slides the ball across the goal to Nuttall but his shot is blocked. The ball bounces to Palmer in a great position but he manages to hit the prone goalie. Should have been three!

    80.     A mix up by Mulgrew and Williams gives the Ipswich player a clear run on goal. Raya saves.

    81.     Great save by Raya’s legs. Panic from the resulting corner as Raya fails to gather but the Ipswich man puts the ball over the bar!

    90.     Freak goal!

Very good and interesting! Seems accurate and captures Dacks performance who wasn't that involved but dangerous when he got on the ball.

Agree with this.  We need an out and out flying winger.  Adding height would be great as well big centre half.  Nzonzi size CM and a powerful forward.

Just make sure if aiming for a tall CM that he is mobile like Nzonzi and not another Etuhu. I would settle for a Jermaine Jones myself. How he could cover ground fast, had drive and bite as well.

  14. The Trapp offer is pretty interesting. What I like is that we're not limiting us to former players or Football League. Seems that the new scouting setup is starting to function. Also a clear indication that there is money left. I've previously suggested an expected budget of 3-5 millions. Seems now that it is at least around 5 which pretty good considering we haven't sold anybody.

Don't know the player but seem to have decent pedigree and highly rated among his peers, including Thierre Henry:

    https://www.massivereport.com/2014/10/21/7028267/thierry-henry-gives-credit-to-columbus-crew-wil-trapp-for-victory

The player also seems interested in the move based on his comments:

Alot of our players are similar. What we need now is something different. Different to either come off the bench or to do something different if circumstances dictate it.

Chapman is very diffdrent to anything we have and ticks the boxes of what we need imo

Agreed. We don't have any wide players who can take on a man. Also missing a two way winger like Conway was in his prime. Someone with pace and crosses who also can be relied on to track back. We got away a few times in League One with wingers/off mid not tracking back. That won't be the case in Championship, we will be countered to death.

Not necessarily, but Mowbray was insistent that he wasnt being considered to start games. You mention the injury but even this summer (may be mistaken on this, apologies if so) when asked again he reiterated that he still sees him as an impact sub.

I could see him personally starting much more than he did here in League 1, as he deserved to, but dont think that Mowbray would trust him based on previous experience, therefore he may as well stay in a similar role at his local team, one much more likely to challenge for Promotion.

Not saying he wouldnt want to come back, clearly has some fondness, just playing devils advocate really. To be honest I'd be surprised if him or Gallagher return.

To be fair Mowbray said at the beginning of the season that Chapman would probably need untill closer to Christmas to get used his responsibilties and demands before starting. He was just getting there when injury struck. He was clear regarding Payne that he would only be considered an impact player.

Interesting quote from Sharpe. While McGinn is probably a pipe dream there is obviously money as Sharpe reckons the 3 mill fee  isn't an issue.

Rovers would need to likely splash out in the region of £3m to land the 23-year-old, also in the final year of his contract, but they do have the money to spend.

  18. 1 minute ago, RovingRover said:

    Not good news for Rovers.
It would seem they are getting him on a free, which completely trashes the sell-on fee that the Football League put in his transfer terms under Tribunal.
Means we don't stand to make any profit from future sale.

    Pretty sure it's a loan.
