Given their league position I originally thought this a winnable fixture. However - when you look at their home form this is an excellent win.

Not getting giddy yet - result against Brentford and I might.

At the moment it would appear a certain amount of luck is on our side - with injuries forcing a change in style of play that is paying off at the moment.

Every team has a bit of luck at times DMTP but credit must go to the manager and coaching staff at Brockhall who are working with the lads on a daily basis. Confidence and self-belief must be high at the moment.
Let’s hope they perform for the cameras next Saturday.

Therefore someone could quote you, and then paste somebody else post into the quote box. Not sure why anyone would do that though.

Thanks Hasta for that. I do recognise the post which was attributed to me and I have a strong feeling it appeared after the Fulham game but I can’t remember who wrote it. Even weirder that it turned up in the Hull thread.

This first paragraph was not positive at all! ???

I don’t understand how my name is on a post I didn’t make!? Can any site moderator please explain?

Pass marks to travis and nyambe, tosin cruised it if looking a little casual at times. Lenihans ball distribution was terrible but dealt with anything defensively. Walton had nothing to do. Armstrong most threatening but should score in first minute and I really do wish he lifted his head when running, missed some good opportunities to play in others, looks like he is always trying to get a shot away when not always best option but goal was very good.

samuel looked half decent when he came on, willing to turn and run and well finished. Deserves a go up top.

    Now the poor

bell- awful, nothing right all game

johnson- overweight and ineffective, doesn’t get in many champ midfields these days. Shame as was a player in his day.

downing- few good crosses but needs to do more

bennett- terrible and stupid at times, diving in

graham- loved the guy but done. Move to USA or Australia

brereton- legs can’t keep up with the ball when dribbling, constantly knocks it away from himself

overall- very poor , glossed over by an absolutely terrible hull team- currently relegation form and would go down had they not a cushion from first half of season. We weren’t fluid whatsoever, laboured and dull. I worry for remainder of season, we were lucky we didn’t concede. Whoever got first goal was winning this and luckily it was us which then opened up to a comfortable scoreline. Their keeper helped us out too, worst team Iv seen all season.

know some of you are overjoyed but between Saturday and tonight I just see nothing to get overly excited about sadly

Are you not excited that our Rovers won 3-0? You seem to be overworked in trying to prick our optimism! ? Blimey let’s us enjoy a win.

Says alot that this morning my Forrest supporting mate text me asking me what the F have we done to Ben brereton ..oh dear

    An interesting point Adam.

I always remember Chris Sutton leaving us for Chelsea for £15m. We knew what a good player he was but his move to Stamford Bridge was a disaster.
I remember seeing him on MOTD bearing down on goal in a one-on-one with the goalie and it was like watching Bambi on ice as he slipped and the ball gently rolled to the goalie. The Chelsea fans were laughing at him. He only lasted one season and then went to Celtic.

Some moves work out and some don’t. Football is very much a confidence thing. Brereton has ability and was a star in the making at Forest. He has international honours and has won an award from the Premier League.
Mick Rathbone reckoned he would be worth £45m!

Mowbray took a calculated gamble on him but at the moment his gamble doesn’t look very successful. Do we stick with him or send him out to regain his confidence?

For me I would play him for the next games but for sure the manager has a big decision to make.

But this time it was avoidable and self inflicted!

Couldn’t agree more. I’m reading John Duerden’s book on the Rovers Revolution and he describes the progress of the club from the cash strapped days of the 70’s and 80’s. Rovers had to sell Kevin Stonehouse to Huddersfield for £30k just to pay a utility bill!

Most of us thought those days were long gone. We were the kings of the castle not so long ago; now thanks to certain individuals we are the paupers at the gate.

Pretty much. You saw it in the Barnsley match, their manager looked at our bench in amazement.

Besides a slight lack of pace out wide, we've got a very, very strong squad for this division. We should be challenging for the Playoffs.

I agree with you ER. I think the manager deserves credit for bringing in some experienced quality to go with some good young players.
Another factor for today was in the 3 days the squad spent together since Wednesday; the players that came in were certainly well coached and allowed Mowbray to take a calculated risk with his team selection.
I’m especially pleased for Gallagher and Bell who I think have something about them.
Great day to be a Rover!

Always very sad to hear the passing of someone associated with our club. Some incredible memories from his time with us. Who could ever forget the 3-2 win at Burnley and the loudest noise I’ve ever heard from our fans at an away game? The signings of Taylor and Wagstaffe; the pairing of Hird and Bailey. The 1-0 win at Bolton when Waddington got the winner and probably saved us from relegation in Jim Smiths first season in charge. The signing of Brotherstone from Spurs on a free transfer.
    RIP Jim Smith

  9. Four matches ago Rovers trailed Swansea by 11 points. We now lead them in the league! This will be a difficult game especially after their humiliation on Sunday. Pleased with a draw; will be ecstatic with a win.
I’m sure I heard Mowbray say they are staying down in the South West with the game in Bristol on Saturday. Hopefully a bit of extra team bonding!  I wonder where the team are staying? A case of hunt the squad!

Blimey! I have to ask you OEB if these figures are in the public domain? Where are your sources of information?

I’m not sure it helps squad harmony if everyone knows their salary level relative to other’s especially Travis who seems very underpaid!

I hope these figures are not correct.

You really are so far removed from the reality of Rovers, it’s unreal. No way can you be a regular attendee - if you go at all.

Your “extremely condescending comments” that “he and his staff plan each game using strengths and weakness of the opposition” is a very poor defence and a damning with feint praise. The worst part is you are probably right. Such a shame that he doesn’t plan using the strengths and weaknesses of Rovers or we might be where we need to be in the table instead of inconsistently bouncing around the bottom half.

Having been largely united around Mowbray taken us as far as we can, a couple of wins and once again all is forgiven for some.

Funny though, isn’t it. We play with the right personnel, the way “I want” as you so cleverly put it, and we win. But of course that’s a bad thing! WTAF? Sounds like you would rather we lost by picking the wrong players each week just so that you can live in a world where I’m never right? What a stupid opinion to take where your distain for me is more important than wanting Rovers to win football matches.

Blimey such venom and vitriol in your post and at 640 in the morning!

You managed to insult me 3 times! I am out of touch with reality, my opinion is stupid even though I thought the mantra on here is to respect differences and bizarrely that I am disdainful of you. I have never met you Stuart so how can you say that? Not to mention the criticism from the other day that I pontificated to a fellow poster!

A lifetime of teaching history has made me immune to insults and indifference!

I am aware of your opinions about Tony Mowbray. My opinion is a slightly different one.

But we can both agree that we want Rovers to be a successful football club once again.

I will not comment again on your posts, Stuart, as I clearly seem to wind you up.

Far better and more balanced performance tonight. 100 times better than against Barnsley.

So what did we learn tonight? Well not much that we didn’t already know...

    - Armstrong out wide instead of on his own in the middle works.

    - A proper striker playing up top not out wide works - Gallagher must be fuming.

    - A proper right back instead of a midfielder works.

    - Armstong and Nyambe can work together.

    - Rothwell and Downing can work together.

    - Playing Rothwell from the start with a bit of freedom works - although if Mowbray hadn’t dug him out about goals earlier in the week, he might not have overthought his shot. Man of the match again.

    - £14m and we are still utterly dependent on Dack for goals.

    - Playing Bennett in defence makes us weaker - let’s hope Nyambe isn’t badly injured.

    - Lenihan is a far better captain that Bennett.

    - Brereton isn’t a pro athlete let alone a footballer - has he even been working on his game while he has been out? Can’t run, win the ball, or even get close to it. I don’t remember him touching the ball in the time he was on the pitch.

All of the things we have been asking for from Mowbray were in that starting line up. But his tombola machine will strike again in no time.

Three home wins in a row should be a cause for some optimism but I’ve no faith that he will stick with our best side or improve it with astute recruitment in January. He needs to show something in the next five games that he has learned and he is going to have faith in his best players rather than his favourite or longest serving. More changes for the sake of it and we are back to square one.

    Over to you Tony.

I’m sure one day, Stuart, you will take it on yourself to give our manager a little bit of credit for actually winning a football match!

Your extremely condescending comments that he is finally doing what you want in terms of selection and tactics does you no favours.

Your description of “ tombola Tony” is rather insulting. He and his staff plan each game using the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition and Stoke away may well see changes.

Let’s enjoy tonight. I am still optimistic about our season.

That really cheered me up! Well done Madon!

Don’t think you read my post properly, where did I say go wanting the opposition to win, can let feelings know without losing. Think you read it how you wanted to react to be honest

The logical extension of what you are saying is that by creating fan displeasure at the game creates a toxic atmosphere where players and management will feel inhibited  and be less likely to perform to their best. Thereby increasing the chance of defeat. An outcome you appear to accept.

Listening to his comments Mowbray will not be a burden to this club and he will leave if he feels he has lost the players and fans.

Only way to get him out is to show fan displeasure. I’m sorry it had to come to this but he won’t be sacked and fans need to show that they don’t want him. I’m surprised it hasn’t long before now. Please any fans go to Brentford, show displeasure at direction out ship is sailing. It’s time for a new captain of this vessel

I can’t believe any genuine supporter would go to a game at Ewood and actively want the opposition to win.

If you had heard his interview he didn’t want the fans to turn on the players. At the current time the players need 100% support.

In any case I’m not quite sure that the majority of fans want him out as you seem to suggest. Clearly there were rumblings of discontent on Saturday but the team won and deserve every credit for that.

It will be a difficult game on Wednesday and I would love to be there cheering on the team but will have to take my usual seat in front of the TV watching Sky Sports.

I would hate to think that the lads in blue and white would not get the crowds support.

  16. I’m pretty sure that Mowbray and his staff have ambitions to progress along with all the other 23 managers in the Championship.

What I’m unsure of are the ambitions of the Venkys as they do not share their thoughts with us the fans.

They have to take the blame for our painful demise since 2012.

But we are beholden to them and need their largesse to keep us in business.

I wouldn’t even say that’s too harsh. Bell truly is an absolutely horrendous footballer.

If that were the case Butty then I suggest he would be nowhere near our club.

He was scouted and tracked whilst at Fleetwood and the Rovers management team believed he had potential. Indeed his fellow professionals voted him as the best left back in Div 1 two years ago.

The question is why is he struggling at the moment. Football is very much a confidence thing. He must be lacking in that at the moment and he is in need of support from his manager and the fans.

From what I’ve seen I think there is talent there; I just hope he can show it starting on Saturday.

  18. I know it’s only yet another opinion  but Ian Dowie on Sky was telling us what an exciting game it was in the first half and that in the second half Rovers took over the game.

So I’m a bit confused reading all the posts. Sometimes being a committed and passionate onlooker at a game affects what you see.
