I personally think we have a club wise issue with how we recognise success. As far as I’m concerned — and if I was Chairman — I would be saying if we don’t finish top 6 we may as well finish 21st. 7th and 21st both equal the same thing.
It makes zero difference in this league, the financial benefits aren’t the same as the PL where each position is worth X amount more money. I would rather finish 21st playing JRC, Nyambe, Wharton, Dolan, etc than finish frustratingly close to the top 6 and then have to send back our key players when their loans end and rebuild.

What you are saying does make a lot of sense , but fans are not that patient and to finish 21st in this league means losing a lot , losing games to teams we feel we shouldn’t , the mob will get angry and frustrated and before you know it those young players  you mention will find themselves playing in a poisonous atmosphere

  2. Errr ... torn on the Hanley link ...assuming his fitness levels are there right now is he a better option than Mulgrew and Williams then yes ,  could he be the type of “man” Mowbray said  he was looking for then yes But I don’t think he’d compliment Lenihan as he’s far too similar to him and I would still believe there are better and probably cheaper options still out there

I saw worse as an young amateur player. One guy got a bad break, he was crying out, it was cold and wet but we couldn't move him. We sent for an ambulance but the security guys couldn't find the key to unlock the gates to let the ambulance onto the pitch. Eventually they found the keys and got the gate open only for the ambulance to bog down on the pitch. We had to get the poor bloke onto a bench and carry him to the ambulance. Then we had to push the ambulance back onto the road. All in all in must have taken about 3/4 of an hour to an hour to get off the lad off the pitch.

    I've never forgotten that one.

Many moons ago I did I judo and dislocated my knee cap , the 10-15 mins it took for the ambulance to come was the worse of my life so I can fully understand where you are coming from

  4. when Tony said he wanted men to do a mans job in defence that I instantly thought he was looking for an older more experienced defender than Kipre and to be honest Lindsay nor Sarr sort of match that description either.. I think there’s is somebody else as well someone we haven’t heard mentioned yet

So lets believe that we have £3 million to cover everything this summer including wages. Bear in mind that we have in Downing, Graham, Samuel, Smallwood, Leutwiler,  Hart, Walton and Tosin shed probably possibly in excess of £100,000 a month off the wage bill before bonuses, appearance money and signing on fees. That's probably a saving of £1.5 million straight away.

Not really much of a budget after you take the above into account.

If Mowbray is really now having to offload either Mulgrew or Williams to raise the cash for a Kipre to come in then we are in really dire straits. Having lowered the wage bill substantially even with a well paid goalkeeper we should be well below what we were last season. We have next to no options in defence and yet the plan to bring a defender in is to offload what experience we do have left at the back? Scary.

A proper experienced keeper and a proper experienced CB should have been done and dusted by now. We've known about those positions for 6 months or more. We should now be putting the finishing touches by getting in a back up CB and GK, and another option up top.

But how many of our current squad would you like to offer new improved contracts/pay rises to ? Dack Armstrong Travis Nyambe ??? Some of the youngsters maybe ??  Where does that money come from

When you watch back old vids Sellars came inside an awful lot imo.  He was a good tricky winger but didn't always play traditional wide wingers role.

Cracking little player one of my all time favs.

Fantastic little player could turn a full back inside out and could put the ball on the proverbial sixpence as fans we all thought he was great .. Dalglish on the other hand preferred a Wilcox.. ? but what do we know eh ?

He would be bonkers not to, his stock is on the rise, he is young and would likely have aspirations of the PL. Football careers are short, what 15 years on average? And we expect AA to sign for close to half of what he has left in the game without anyway out if a top club comes calling?

Preaching to the converted ? I suppose that’s 2 of us that don’t play football manager ??

Whiteman update, met Tony last Wednesday....they want him but not before they've bought a goalie and a left back.  Midfield is the 3rd priority. If there is 2m left over we will put a bid in.  We have a pot of money.  Derby are very interested too.  The player wants the championship,  not necessarily Rovers. 2m gets the player.

    Well that’s about rights isn’t it ?

    we’ve no GK

our left back options are either crap , want to play C/B or a young right sided midfielder

midfield Travis Evans Johnson Davenport Buckley at a push Bennett

if a midfielder is our 1st signing I like many others will be pissed

I'm surprised by that Chaddy. Wouldn't you think the club would be saying to all the staff " No foreign holidays until further notice lads ? " Let's hope he's not coming back in the nexr two weeks. I'm supposed to be out there now but staying local seemed to be the wisest move.

    Armstrong’s out in Ibiza too

I'll be hated for this but I think hendry was massively overrated. Sure he stuck his head in where it hurts but only to rectify his own mistakes a lot of the time. Now Berg, he was a legend!!!

Hated no ...disagree with certainly Hendry was not particularly quick but even up against the quicker strikers in the league such as Wright Cole Ferdinand etc was rarely done for pace and if you wanted to mix it with him he was as strong as on ox and the times I’ve seen him throw his body on the line was usually down to somebody else’s mistakes
