  1. The problem for the police is that they shoot the bloke and he's innocent they get heavily criticised.

They don't shot the bloke and he blows half of London up and kills hundreds of people the police get heavily criticised.

They can't really win, especially when it's easy to judge from your armchair.

Although I know which option I would have taken if I'd been a police officer in pusuit.

  2. Eddie, as for Therno and AESF etc runing these threads, this also applies to the likes of Colin and Scotty who then come back with comments not in keeping with this or the particular thread. I'm not saying that Therno, AESF etc don't sometimes go over board, but that is for the Mods to decide not for everyone to get into a slanging match.

IF someone thinks that immigration or asylum seekers should be halted after these attacks that is upto them, and i'd guess a lot of people in the country would support these measures, if you don't think this is appropriate, again that is your opinion and you would not be alone in thinking like that.

Maybe if people were not so quick to bite.............................

  3. Yes but the point is that if a terrorist was in Iraq of english origin he would be trying to blend in not stand out a mile.  By picking out people who you think look a likely candidate you just inflame the situation and in the end make things worse.  If it was as simple as stopping every person who looked likely then they would have my backing but it just isn;t that simple.

Maybe that's the point though. You wouldn't expect a terrorist to stand out, so maybe they did just that. You know what they say, expect the unexpected!

To be honest, both sides have valid points on this, I agree that it could inflame the situation and the police have to be careful not to start harassing innocent people. But at the same time the safety of the public has to be No1 priority.

  4. This is catch 22 for the police and other security forces. They do nothing and the bloke goes off and blows another area of London up killing and injuring many innocent victims and people will say why wasn't he stopped.

Or he gets stopped and is an innocent man.

But how could anyone have known???

I have to agree to Theno on this, although I didn't see the incident so can't really comment on whether it was OTT, but if I was a police officer on duty I'd have probably have done the same thing.

Anyway, IMO the police and all other emergency services deserve an award, as do all the civilians who helped yesterday, as they all did a great job in very difficult and emotional circumstances.

  5. I was against the Olympics being held in London, and i know they are a long way off but I now hope they are the best ever and go along without any major problems. Then we can stick 2 fingers up to these (can't really write what I want, but i guess it's what your all thinking!!!)people and show them them that like the people of NYC we will not be bullied.

As with everyone else my thoughts are with those effected.

Well done AndyC and the rest of London, lets show them what us Brits are about thumbs-up.gif

  6. Just a thought, but maybe Paris, NYC, Moscow and Madrid are glad they missed out on the Olympics now.

Maybe these attacks have been planned in all Olympic bidding cities, and whichever won the bid the plan has been carried out, as a warning as whats to come sad.gif

I hope thats not the case but it looks rather dodgy this happening the day after.

Anyway, I hope everyone with relatives in London hears good news and all the best to the people of London.

Just another thought with Mobiles. It could be that everyone is attepting to contact people in the city and there is too much pressure on the network, a bit like New Year (not the best comparision, but all I could come up with)

  7. The Euro championships and world cup are great for the whole country as games are played in all parts. The Olympics is held in and around London.

Is it not possible to stage some of the games round the Midlands to enable greater accessibility to all?

Just one other point which Dave Birch or another of our Australian friends can confirm as fact or just plain nonsense.

When I was over in Sydney I was told on two or three occasions by Australians that the reason you didn't see any beggars or homeless in Sydney is that the Government had given them one way tickets out of Sydney to other parts of the country to clear them out for the Olympics. I don't know if this is true but compared to the rest of the main towns and cities in OZ, Sydney hardly had any beggars.

So will that be a benefit for the rest of the country, taking our Capitals down and outs dry.gif
