  1. Service charges are completely different.

TIPS are for good service from the staff, as they're not the best paid positions, and I'm more than happy to tip, but not when the restaurant trousers the cash!

Tip the waiter / waitress separately then. I rem the custom used to be to leave a tip on the table and under a plate.

  2. Holly Tree Chippy isn't bad either.

The general standard of chip shops has improved dramatically in my opinion.

Sadly living in the Midlands now they don't gravy :( What is that all about :(

Don't tell me that you didn't check that before you flit??? ^_^

btw My daughter likes gravy with her fish and chips gav! Can't say it's ever appealed to me. Gravy is for chips and steak pudd with a large glug of vinegar.

  3. The popular papers back all the "big clubs" - because it is in their interests to do so. The big clubs have the most fans / readers.

How do you know "the majority of their readers hate United" ? Seeing as United probably have the biggest fanbase in the country it is highly unlikely anyway.

Was the Moyes reporting gleeful ? I don't think so - just a cracking story.

You're wrong on this. There's no anti-ManU agenda in the media.

There isn't but there should be. MU do polarise opinion and I'd wager no matter how well they are supported it wont amount to as many as the massed ranks of abu's.

Conversation snippet overheard in Wolverhampton pub yesterday: "Edwards couldn't get his hand out of the way so it doesn't matter". Unreal. But not surprising.

His arm was at full stretch ffs!

Its a sad state of affairs when you are on the losing end of a game and its down to a moment of unfairness/cheating (whatever you want to call it)

You would hope there would be some players out there who would make a lot of noise at the moment it occurs on the pitch to say "no ref, it can't stand" even if that meant their team didn't get the result etc.

    http://metro.co.uk/2012/09/27/miroslav-klose-scores-handball-goal-but-tells-referee-to-chalk-it-off-586966/

on a different note, the refereeing in the championship is very questionable...

This should have been spotted by the ref and/or linesman.

I could understand the ref because Edwards arm would prob have been hidden by his body but even with the sun against him the linesman should have seen it! The ref should have learned something from the reaction of both sets of players and the supporters too!. (btw given the plethora of cricketers and golfers playing in shades these days I've never seen a match official in them. I'd have thought sunglasses and or a cap with a neb would assist linesmen no end, especially when I noticed most of the Riverside doing their customary 'salute' when the sun is in their eyes.

  4. The media loved reporting on United's demise during the Moyes era  and were gleeful when LVG started off badly as well.

Considering they would be well aware the majority of their readers hate United, why in the world would they back them?

I've been scratching my head on that for over 50 years now, but they do! Appears summert to do with a plane crash and then some kid with a haircut like the Beatles.

  5. Resurrected this Officials thread because of last saturday's officials aberration

The C5 comment on the incident was should Edwards have owned up? Forgetting the issue that it was a vital away goal if he had confessed he'd then have been booked I presume? If so then why would it have been a caution? How can it be fair that if a defender had stopped a certain goal by palming the ball wide he would have been sent off without any arguments but in this instance the ball was palmed in. A goal through cheating is the same as a goal prevented by cheating isn't it? i'd wager if this was deemed a sending off offence Edwards would never have dared do what he did?

Just as an aside heaven help a Spurs forward if he'd got away with one of those at OT on Saturday.... the press, media, FA, Premier League, politicians, celebrities from Essex, Uncle Tom Cobbley and all would have been building a gallows as we speak!

  6. Went to the Royal Oak at Riley Green last night only to be refused food. We've been going there on and off for over 35 years. In recent years food ordering cut off time has been 8 for 8.30. We arrived at 7.15 to be told that unless we had booked we couldn't order. We pointed out that they had a sign outside saying food served until 9pm but it cut no ice. The place was pleasantly full but not rammed by any means and 15 mins after we arrived, the whole of the end room was empty except for us and another couple who had also been refused. To make matters worse, I had already ordered and paid for our drinks before they let us know the situation. Very poor do and I won't set foot in that place again.

We ventured on to the Amalfi Lounge in Darwen where they were more than happy to serve us. Great food, great service and great value for money, as usual.

No idea who you spoke to but I would always ask for the owner / Manager in that situation. Often bar staff can be bullied by a chef wanting an early night.

Next up I'd have gone to the Fat Bull / O&O / Butlers / Clog, all within three miles and as good or better than the Royal Oak. Granted at this point that I don't know where you live CLB.

  7. Best seafood that I have ever eaten by a mile was in a tiny unassuming restaurant in Ullapool. The owner had a fishing boat and his wife ran the restaurant. I keep meaning to go back but it's a bloody long way and the weather forecast always seems to be for rain.

  8. used to enjoy playing but the back, knees and wrist mean im under dr's orders not to play anymore as one bad twist would result in wrist needing to be fused.

Golf is too tough for you abbey ????

Wow! I'd never have guessed that you were a little "limp wristed"!

  9. They allow buggies but try to ban prats like you.

Correct but just as a one of the prats could caddy Al!

btw..They'd not be welcome in the clubhouse afterwards of course. Limited to pop and crisps in the car. ;)

  10. Gordon, if you read the reports (and do some research for once) there is no clear demand for the sort of volumes of potash that this mine will produce. There is also a global oversupply of potash at present. The technology they are proposing to use to extract it is unproven too.

Sirius now have raise the billions in funding to build a 37km long by 6m wide tunnel under the North York Moors national park bigger then the Channel Tunnel - and create a market for a product which is currently barely in use - and get and retain 86% share of world sales of this wonder chemical - and maybe it'll break even , eventually.

Place your bets on this thing never seeing the light of day or maybe started and then the project being found to be unfeasible unless further planning restrictions are lifted.

Sorry just edited my previous post before I read your response.

So if it goes ahead your opening sentence must be balderdash and if it doesn't go ahead then the figures are correct and the money men whom you detest will have become an unlikely ally and done your dirty work for you Jim.

  11. So take away the National park bit which you inserted as an aside and what is your main objection to potash mining?

btw isn't there talk that they will build an underground rail link from the mine to Teeside in order to not spoil the local area? Even latter day luddites like yourself will have to accept that as proof of good intent surely?

  12. I'm a mile away and it's hammered house prices and I don't believe the money produced will stay here or there's that many jobs produced. But I can still see how the nation could benefit. I'd like to see the Thames Valley/ Home Counties also heavily fracked at least then we could all share in the heavy chemical waste produced.

We can't expect any political help here in the Fylde as we voted in a Tory MP and he's to busy smoking illegal immigrants cOck while high on drugs.

No idea why that would be but it's great news if you are looking to buy.
