Stunning bill to match I assume PB?
-
No I'm not. I don't have the necessary physical attributes...... Unfortunately both my legs are the same length!I've been convinced to go back to Darwen as a member next year But until then, I'll be making weekly or so trips to Samlesbury Driving Range (also has a par 3 9-holer) and probably monthly trips to different courses in the area. I live just shy of Bull Hill so no course is out of reach
You a member at Darwen, Drog? Just cos it's the first one you mentioned. I might even know you already

Played 45 holes over this weekend at Formby Hall and it's really whetted my appetite for the great sport once again. Especially with it being a Ryder Cup year Can't afford a membership without giving up my SeasonTicket, but I could afford to play properly once or twice a month if the Green Fees are reasonable.
Anyone know of any local gem courses?
Any other golf chat wanted?
If you can play during the week the worlds your oyster. Darwen's a tough track and physically demanding but Dunscar's OK and only just over th'ill. We used to ring em up on occasional weekdays and ask cheekily if they did '2 for 1's. They didn't but said if we went they'd match it. Most clubs will 'deal' these days since Sky Sports screwed golf in this country over. New ones like Mitton Fold and Oak Royal are on the look out for new memebers all the tim.
As far as 'pay and play' municipals there's Townley, Duxbury Park and Marsden Park

The work of the Devil. Golf courses should be tax free to builders if they build new social housing on them.
Thats odd...... Until now I thought you were a bloke.
-
Just been on the local news on BBC breakfast.
Just the dressers or the Chinese too?
-
Many there Willie?Went to the newly-reopened Spread Eagle at Mellor yesterday evening after the match.
Overall impression was good. Friendly welcome, broad choice of starters and mains, 4 real ales.
Everyone in our group enjoyed their food. Higher than average prices but I would go again.
-
Me too. Bloody great it was...... Mind it's 20 years ago when I last lived near there so no doubt the owners have changed.Don't know if it is still as good but i used to prefer the Shaha Joli up at Clayton, the chicken tikka and chillies was awesome

I was but then I thought maybe Sirloin was also the name of a suite in the restaurant.
A suite? Nah Sirloins definitely a main course.

I think Stuart was making a joke.
You should've gone to Salmesbury Hall.
-
ex wife? wtf were you thinking of? I can only assume that she must have been a good shag else you were completely insane to marry her.Looks like something my ex-wife could cope with if I never occasionally cleaned the house when we lived together.Except for the bottles of urine. I used to get tired of it and leave it for her to sort out when the house owner/letting agency came round.
I'd not be posting pictures of it in that state on the internet.

Was treat to dinner at the Sir Charles Napier last night. No not that one... The one between Oxford, Slough and Wycombe. Michelin starred, Very good food, roaring log fires and a lovely 'home counties' ambience although it is way out in the sticks with prices most definitely not for the faint hearted.

Check bills carefully always. We do. Saved my son a fiver the other night when they charged full price for a dessert update and charged for an icecream they brought by mistake which he sent back. It's amazing how many bills are wrong . We nearly always send ours back for correction, even sometimes because they've undercharged us.
Good advice. Its so easy to just swipe the plastic but as you say bills are wrong as often as they are right IMO. In the past every time I ate at 'Time' in hoghton the bill was wrong. Its gone now.

The Duke Of York, Grindleton - excellent last Saturday.
Never been but have long intended to......... So long as tj newton has no objections.
-
I have to say, of all the long running brfcs threads this is the one I can relate to the least(and even find a touch bizarre)
I find you a touch bizarre TJ.
Indeed Gav.... and I have to say that I relate to him least too. Leave him to his dodgy kebab shops and their unidentifiable meats.

The 'business model' obviously works well and Jocelyn Neve has the backing to exploit it.The Seafood Pub Company have now taken the Barley Mow in Barley.

Saturday??? You need to pay attention Paul.... see btw 2Sorry Gordon but I was completely unaware of it until Saturday. I'd included a stop at one of my favourite cafe / farm shops during my cycle ride and they stocked Procter's cheeses.

I'm not on your ignore list as well as Al's am I?

For any cheeseaholics on here have a look at www.kickasscheese.co.uk
The extra mature cheddar is a serious cheese
'Kickass Cheddar' Love it. I have some in the larder right now. Must say it's quite rewarding to see you took my advice Paul.

Only cos they play it at Public Schools. Rugby League is just for the oiks don't you know? But it's a far bigger game?
-
Whereas we are treat to endless minutes of Union players untangling themselves from a pile of bodies after the ref has whistled fro something nobody else saw and then standing steaming with hands on hips until a scrum is sorted out..... repeat to infinity.
Effectively all Rugby is for wannabee athletic types who like team sports and cameraderie along with a touch of machismo and a healthy dollop of the old 'Ultra V' involved but who couldn't trap a wet sandbag if their lives depended on it.

Somehow I don't think a career in marketing would suit you PB.Love it. My wife and I go there. Did you clock the camp male waiter in tight shorts?
-
Not a fan of Thwaites Bitter particularly but Wainwrights is cask and seems universally popular. Not that it's poorly kept or that Thwaites isn't a nice pint but you're not likely to find anything out of the ordinary.

http://kitchennightmares-kitchennightmare.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/uk-season-4-episode-2-fenwick-arms.htmlThe very same Abs. Completely changed now.
I doubt Ramsey will be needed now.

Jocelyn Neve is not one to let the grass grow under her feet is she?

O&O is very good and from Bash you might be just as close going to the Assheton Arms at Downham. Personally I love the O&O but for quality and sheer good value I can't better the 'Market Menu' at the Butlers Arms at the moment. Two courses for £9.99 produced by an ex Ribble Valley Inns Chef is the stand out deal of the moment around these parts.I went to the Strawbury Duck at Turton (though the train station adjacent is called Entwistle!)- superb again. It always takes me an age to decide what to have, as there are so many things I fancy on that menu!
I do need to have a do at this Oyster and Otter by the sounds of things. I was meaning to go the other week, but I stuck with the tried and tested Waddington Arms!

I'd have guessed 1500 tbh. You got a bargain pb.... So long as your excellent socialist principles allow you to enjoy it fully of course.
