i`ve been looking for footage of that game for years, but have never found any, can`t find any of the coventry game the round before either

If it helps, I think it was on Match of the Day that night.  Was the equaliser an Allan Evans og from a Brotherston corner?  Don't think I'd seen Ewood as full before

Have a decent insight into Southampton from contacts I made whilst working for a spell down there.  Generally, fans seem to loathe Martin and haven't too many kind words to say about Wilcox!

This is 'soft lads' versus 'soft lads', 'bottlejobs' versus 'bottlejobs'.

    Who will crumble first?

Think there will be goals galore.

Think Saints will win as they usually start matches well and when on song would tear our slow and static defence to pieces.  I see them racing into a 2 or 3 goal lead  with a the final score ending up 1-4 or 2-4.

The worst game for actually nothing happening (good or bad) for me was Elland Road on New Years Day 1996.

    Anyone remember it? Thought not.

We drove over and it was so dull it was laughable. I just found this report whilst checking up on the date, which perfectly corresponds with my recollections.

Couldn't have told you the year, but think I was at that one.  It was as though all 22 had been on the razz all night on NY Eve and couldn't be arsed running around

I remember a game, at Fulham I think, when he gave a master class in how to play centre forward. Another one who fell foul of Souey when he was on his way to losing the plot.

Think that was when they were playing at Loftus Rd.  We were behind the goal and got a cracking view of his second,  We won 4-0 that night.  Pity he couldn't have hung around for a bit longer, would have been very handy if he caarried on like that.

The greatest footballer I've seen in our shirt. I'm not sure I'll ever see better.

People only ever talk about the goals and the passes, but my favourite moment (the longest substitutions in history aside) was the Liverpool game at Ewood where he put Gerrard on his arse stood still.

I've never seen it again but it's clear as day in my mind's eye.

Mike, try this one.  Might or might not be the one but worth a watch

Nice to see Scott and Adams mum and dad there.

John Wharton was a good cricketer although I only played against him his latter years when he played for Salesbury in the Ribbisdale league. Nice fella too.

Off at a tangent from the game..... played against their dad many a time as a youngster.  He was a county (maybe country too) level player as a teenager so a bit of a treasured scalp for us oiks, played around the leagues (Lancs, Ribb) for years after that.

I also think this was the last league game that we won "6-something".

A few 7's and plenty of 5's since then but never a 6 goal win.

In the cup I can remember 6-0/1 wins against Watford, Preston and Rochdale since then.

To answer Rog's question, maybe!  I went to a 6-1 about this time and after checking the Jackman, there was a 6-1 at the start of the following season.  vs Sunderland.  I'd remembered the game I was at against a team in red and white stripes and getting in about 3:05 and we were already 1-0 up so that all points to v Sunderland, but was sure Patty had scored a hat trick so that points to v Sheff  Utd.  Either way, there was another 6-1 just a few months after Sheff Utd

People who have posted 'positive' news (including yourself regarding Derek Shaw sorting the club out a few years ago) have ultimately been shown to be wide of the mark.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to remember that!  So - like you (DE) and a lot of others I suspect - won't take too much notice of words.  Will wait to see evidence.
