  1. BA are offering an intreasting Ashes themed offer

A ticket to Sydney costing the amount the aussies score in their 1st innings (so if they score 300 runs it will cost £300). The number of tickets avaiable will be the same as the number of runs england (so if they score 400 runs in their 1st innings there will be 400 tickets)

  2. And did those feet in ancient time

    Walk upon England's mountains green?

And was the holy Lamb of God

    On England's pleasant pastures seen?

    And did the countenance divine

Shine forth upon our clouded hills?

    And was Jerusalem builded here

    Among those dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!

Bring me my arrows of desire!

Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!

Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,

Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,

    Till we have built Jerusalem

In England's green and pleasant land.

  3. the tactic for this test match will be very interesting. from our perspective i would say taht vaughny if he wins the toss would not to even think about a declaration.....in the first inning.  on the other hand and depending on what the pitch is normally like at the oval, it wouldn't be all that bad if australia batted first...cause it is they whom have to get us out as quickly as possible.  if we do win the toss, then i wouldn't be surprised to see micahel vaughn put them in.

If England wins the toss there is no question that Engalnd will bat first. We could knock up a big score (say 400-500) over a day or 2 and bat the aussies out of the series.

Heard McGill might be played. Who would make way for him?

  4. you can always rely on the king of spain!

how many more times can my heart stop before being declared clinical dead?

it's like Custards last stand with these aussies...just shows the diffrence between the 2 teams. The aussies are replying on only a couple of players performing (warne and lee) whilst a lot of the englasih are perfroming

For the Oval-a nice boring rain affected draw please God. England win the toss and make a big score over 2 days, and can than sit back and enjoy!

during the end of the match my girlfriend came up with "are there 2 Flintoff's in the team?"

    no theres only one Freddie!

  5. Football is dead. Long live rugby and cricket.

The problems as I see it are:

    1. Too much money going to the top teams and naff all for the rest.

    2. The media have turned every transfer, game and incident into an overblown, hollow soap opera. Who cares about Essian and his wages ?.

    3. The players rarely have a personality. If they do, they're usually arrogant and spoilt.

    4. Football's soul has been pumped full of additives (the Premiership, g14 clubs etc.) to make it more 'exciting'. The soul of the game is ill and rotten because of it.

    5. The fans of the top teams dominate the airwaves with their constant bitching, whining and sniping at each other.

The Ashes are on now, and they are far more exciting and engaging than a bunch of brats more concerned about their wages than winning trophies.

    in 100% agrement

  6. what will vaughan do if he wins the toss?

bat first and post a bit score like in 2nd/3rd tests...or with trent bridge going to be dampish bowl first with Hoggard (hopfully) swinging the ball?

I would quite like england to chase a smallish target this time

mind you if Mcgrath is not 100% a day in the field might do him some good

  7. Ewood Park's dramatic drop in attendance should be of major concern for the club.

comparing yesterday's attendance with the opening day of the 1999/2000 season (circa 20K) and 2000/2001 (circa 18K) is very worring.

even when the club was playing in a lower level the gate were bigger.

one bright note, towards the end of the 00/01 season gates had risen to +25K. so if the cub is doing well on the pitch perhaps the crowds will return?

saying that I think the club needs to do some market research to find out way people are staying away, and what (if any) the club can do to ensure they return
