Samba contract extension

Heard anything about whether Samba is going to sign his bumper contract?

There were discussions yesterday. It seems to be moving the right way. Villa could not reach £10 million for him and the player-swap idea is always complicated.

The big chap clearly needs more money. The price of petrol must be hurting him with his 20-odd cars.

****************

El Hadji Diouf

Brief discussion of other clubs' activities in the transfer market led to this exchange, referring to West Ham:

Dioufy?

Brilliant work by unleaded on the Brazilian kid. Just glad he doesn't work for the papers...

Ronieli

Here is the Brazilian kid. Thanks to Hughesy for the initial alert regarding Ronieli.

Ronieli-foto-Vipcomm_LANIMA20101116_0063_30.jpg

Latest is that Rovers have landed Ronieli, a Top Notch Brazilian striker who is on a plane set for Manchester.......The São Paulo starlet is an Under 19 International for Brazil and is highly regarded in Brazil......He was so hot that he was selected for the São Paulo squad at 16!.......Models his game on Hulk and is a very mature and skilful, confident young player........just returned from a Loan spell in Turkey where he was sent out to get a bit of expereince......

[YouTube video clip omitted]

How did Denilson get a permit when Arsenal signed him? Are there different rules if you put the player in the Academy first?

I thought there was a possibility to bring in players of 'exceptional talent' or something along those lines, but I might have been dreaming.

That is one way round it. If so, Rovers should start telling the world how good he is. Might make their case easier.

Simon Vukcevic

"Blackburn have an eye on Vukcevic"

Basically, it says that Blackburn Rovers have been following him recently not only in Alvalade (Sporting Lisbon's stadium) but also in Estádio dos Barreiros where Sporting played their last game.

It seems that Vukcevic is seen as a good solution for Rovers.

However, Sporting will not let him go easily as he is important for the team due to his capacity of improvisation and making a difference in the attack.

It seems there is more about it in the printed version of the newspaper.

Mauro Formica

blue/white was keeping us up to date with developments in Argentina regarding the Formica situation when unleaded broke the latest news.

Interesting turn of events in the Mauro Formica embroglio. It turns out that

a. Formica's European passport has been determined to be expired so that needs sorting out -- apparently this was determined today.... are his handlers that daft? No idea how long that'll take but it is not helpful to anyone.

b. There's a strong difference in the monies Monaco are willing to pay Newell's Old Boys. So the deal is nearly dead in the water as of this afternoon.

So Formica is back to square one in his quest for European football. No one knows exactly what his next options are but here's a list of the wreckage so far:

Galasataray

Genoa

Blackburn Rovers

Monaco

I've begun to think this 'Cat' is strictly barge pole stuff.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!

Formica set to fly in for talks with Rovers in the morning!

Rovers went back in for the young star with an improved bid to snatch him from the jaws of French club Monaco

Hope Rovers keep to their word and grab him............

nicko chat

After Sky Sports News reported yesterday of interest in El-Hadji Diouf from Konyaspur of Turkey, other media sources picked up on the news, with the Daily Mail and ESPNsoccernet both quoting a £3 million figure for the alleged bid. In the realm of gossip, Shaun Wright-Phillips has been mentioned in speculation in the last couple of days, while David Trezeguet is the latest "big name" to be tossed into the ring, courtesy of TribalFootball.

The Diouf to Turkey thing won't happen.

It's more likely he will stay in the Prem.

As for £3 million? Not in this lifetime.

He could have a couple of clubs here if he was free. Or even cheap. But that valuation just does not exist.

There is nothing in the SWP stuff either. Rovers won't be buying him and they can't loan him. So scrub that thought.

Interesting to see if Larsson plays tonight or not. Probably not. In which case - and they lose - he may be on his way.

TREZEGUET...he was looked at in Sam's time, but he didn't want to come...I would doubt that one...

FORMICA...definitely still alive...but many complications...including new ones.

ROCHINA...seems to be close...but we have been saying that for a wee time.

RONIELE...over here...no idea how he can get in the country for keeps.

LARSSON...surely that one can't slip by...could it?

Afternoon update #1 of 3

Transfer digest from the Transfer Window Part 5 thread covering the period from 15:00 yesterday to the closing of the thread around 12:40 today. nicko was very active yesterday evening on the main transfer thread, so today's digest is essentially a summary of his news and views arranged chronologically, with a brief topic-based section appended to round up the discussion. Note that a small degree of editing has been undertaken for ease of reading purposes only.

nicko chat

Formica IS here...wonder how he is going to get round the passport problem.

Still, it's a decent result if it is sorted out.

So everything else (fee, contract & ownership) has been sorted and the passport is the only hurdle left now Nicko?

The fee seems to have been agreed with Newell's and the people who have a share in the player in Argentina [this is quite common before the hysterics start wielding their Guardians about].

The contract would be for four years.

I don't know whether he is bought or owned by Rovers or whoever.

But the Premier League and the FA will check through that as they do with all deals.

The passport thing seems the only missing link.

Hope the lad is worth the fuss.

Sorry to ask the same question, Nicko, but when you say 'here' you mean in Blackburn - to meet with Blackburn?

Could you expand on the situation - how close is he to signing?

The lad has been at the training ground, all concerned seem to think it will happen.

Nicko, after Formica and maybe Rochina also would you expect more signings? Have you heard possible names lately who wouldn't have been mentioned here? Thanks in advance.

If you end up with Roque [loan], Jones [loan], Formica [buy], Rochina [buy] and this Brazilian kid Roniele [buy] it would be a very healthy window.

Larsson would look less likely now - but still probable for the summer.

You would have a healthy top-ten shot with that group on board. And the bank would not be broken.

Come summer you will move out a few and address the striker/ midfield sitter vacancies that would result in Roque and Jones going back after their loans - if that is to be the outcome.

The time to break down all of the figures and judge is still February 1 but it seems to have lurched forward quite well in the past few days.

nicko chat (cont.)

Nicko, what's happening with Chris Samba? Do you think he will sign a new contract or not?

Still talking, figures to be agreed but the latest word is he is likely to sign up.

How can he be in the country if he doesn't have a passport?

Formica could be in on his Argentinian passport. The Italian one would be needed if he wants to work here.

So that needs to be resolved.

Nicko, there has been talk of us being interested in Simon Vukcevic from Sporting Lisboa. The Sun even reported that we have made a bid in the region of £2 million for him..

Although I might think that we are interested in him, I don't believe we have tabled a bid for him.

Have you heard anything about this?

I know an agent has been hawking Vukcevic around...wasn't the three-club rule a clue?

However the arrival of Formica would suggest that Vukcevic won't be a live one. He was possibly an alternative if Formica had gone down the tubes.

What would be the background on this transfer target? (Formica)

How did he come to our attention and why would there not be a lot of interest from other English clubs?

There has been plenty of interest in Formica before. However there were always snags. Maybe poor agents were involved before...

I can only presume there is a file or DVD on the chap.

He came to the fore as an option after one or two on the original list dropped off.

Ronaldinho and Adam?

I was thinking those two...and Duff.

It will be interesting to see where the manager wants to play Formica.

He should be ready for action after playing for Newell's...so hopefully the wait won't be too long to catch a glimpse.

Nicko, before we signed JJ on loan, was Romeu not going to be the sitter or just another CM type?

Quite possibly the sitter. Ideal for the role.

Was Ronaldinho ever on. I think that Venky's tried to hi-jack a deal already done to go to Brazil. It was doomed to failure as he is winding down his career in his homeland. The Adam saga will carry on and on.

Ronaldinho was talking to Fluminense at the time the Rovers interest came to light.

He signed for Flamengo in the end.

So who was hi-jacking who?

Adam to Rovers went out of the door when Liverpool came onto the scene...but who knows what the future brings.

Did someone say the window was quiet?

There is one almighty bomb about to go off...

The bomb was Chelsea bidding for Liverpool's Torres. In the meantime there had also been mention of a Daily Mail article claiming that Rovers were preparing a £8million bid for West Brom's Graham Dorrans.

Chelsea are in for Torres...and I think it will happen. What it all means is anybody's guess. Like where Drogba fits into this. And how Liverpool spend the dough.

Sounds like Roman has got a taste for battle again which is not a bad thing.

Dorrans is just garbo.

Rovers linked with Vukcevic again.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claim Rovers are willing to make an offer of 2.3 million € for Vukcevic. Bolton and West Ham are also interested. They claim that news is from the English media.

Their analysis is that the money would be welcome in Alvalade but would it be enough to persuade the Sporting Lisbon board to sell him now.

Transfer digest from the Transfer Window Part 6 thread covering the period from its opening yesterday around 12:40 to 13:00 today. Discussion in this digest has been arranged in chronological order for ease of reading.

PART 5 went off topic. Please use this thread for transfer talk only.

Previously in the transfer thread:

Signed: Roque Santa Cruz (6 Month Loan), Jermaine Jones (6 Month Loan)

Players Linked: Charlie Adam, Mauro Formica, Ruben Rochina, Victor Vasquez, Sebastian Larsson, Juan Riquelme, Simon Vukčević and Graham Dorrans.

Summary:

As of Friday 28th January it seems that Mauro Formica is very close to signing. Ruben Rochina is also a possibility. There is an expectation that Rovers will add more players before the transfer window closes on Monday 31st January 2011 at 11pm (GMT).

There will be some Larsson, Diouf and Samba news later.

Going for a 10 o'clocker tonight as I [badly] need my beauty sleep.

Complicated is an understatement for this whole Formica scenario.....

I'm feeling like the old geezer in the new Meerkat advert...and nobody is listening.

Passport...passport...passport!

As Nicko says “passport, passport, passport” appears to be the biggest hurdle to get over in terms of the Formica transfer.

Italian bureaucracy is a nightmare to deal with at the best of times, they will want all sorts of documents, if he doesn’t have them then it could delay things.

Should be ok though fully expect the paperwork to be sorted before the window shuts.

The Early Eleven O'Clocker

[...]

SAMBA...Money for nothing?...has got a rise in his new deal, but it's not a daft one...all of that fuss over about £5,000-a-week rise...still a local hero.

LARSSON...Could be off to Cullercoats and Whitley Bay...Newcastle have come in...made a new offer to Birmingham...and a good offer to the player that may be better than what he can make at Rovers...interesting one.

DIOUF...Won't be going abroad because he wants British citizenship...so that's Turkey totally out...West Ham still in hunt...West Brom not after landing Vela...Why worry?

nicko's article in The Mirror is about Liverpool's £6.5million bid for reported Rovers target Charlie Adam:

Adam camp fume at "cheap-skate" Blackpool after new Kop bid is turned down

More nicko chat

nicko do you think we have other midfielders lined up if Formica deal fails?

Formica should happen. The passport issue should not wreck the work put into this in the past few days.

There is a very good story behind how he was snatched.

But that has to keep for Sunday.

[...]

Do you think the extra £5k a week was Samba's only aim, Nicko? You said at the time that Samba wanted out, and has done for some time. What's changed? We've done well in the transfer market and, more importantly, on the pitch. Is that the main reason behind the change?

Samba wanted more cash. It was always about that. He reckoned there was a big club out there. But there wasn't. Villa were keen, but not at the price.

It's a fair solution. If you want £10 million for a player, then you should possibly reward him for that.

Transfer digest from the Transfer Window Part 6 thread covering the period from 13:00 yesterday to 15:00 today. Today's digest is rather brief, but points towards a busy and hopefully productive final day of this season's January transfer window.

Any comments should be confined to the respective threads - DO NOT POST THEM HERE!

nicko update

There's not much point in late-night updates, so...

ROCHINA...word from Spain is that this is done and will be announced tomorrow...compromise fee agreed...no point in kid staying at Barca when he is leaving.

LARSSON...now expected for the summer...didn't want to go to Newcastle who have decided to spend the spare dough on Ireland now...he will go there on loan for about £45,000-a-week.

FORMICA...passport, passport, passport...would be interesting if he didn't have his new one tomorrow...but that seems to be under control.

On a side-note, Gai Assulin is in Man City squad at Notts County today for the first time. May get a glimpse of him - at last.

Transfer digest from the Transfer Window Part 6 thread covering the period from 15:00 yesterday to 17:00 today. Today is the final day of the January transfer window and the thread has been extremely busy. At one point there were 478 users on the thread, some 230 of whom were guests.

This digest is arranged chronologically and, because of the sheer volume of posts, it is necessarily selective, focussing on Rovers-related transfer talk. At the time of publishing this digest, the only confirmed transaction of the day was the conclusion of Jason Roberts' contract extension. Note that a minor degree of editing has been carried out for ease of reading. The transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

Transfer chat

Nicko, what's up with Vazquez. Any chance to buy him?

Never heard that one. Sub for the B team yesterday. Think that one was a myth.

Nicko, any surprise transfer for Rovers?

is anyone close to leaving the club?

Nothing at this stage. And not likely to be. Just the formalities on Formica and Rochina. Plus Samba contract announcement.

Bradley deal being done with Villa today. There was no Rovers late bid.

Interesting line on why some of the foreign deals take so long to be ratified/announced.

It seems all international deals have to be done through FIFA now. Both clubs have to put the paperwork through HQ.

I hope that is being and has been done with both Formica and Rochina.

It would explain why it takes forever.

Does that include foreign players already in the EPL nicko? Like Santa Cruz who took two days to complete the deal with us after it has been agreed?

Cross-border deals.

Roque just took time because of the financials with Man City.

His medical was surprisingly quick.

I will say no more on that subject.

Never was a fan of that deal.

Just in......Rochina deal set to be a pre contract agreement! Deal too complex to be finalised in time!

Jerome Anderson just been on talksport. Seems like he was driving up to Rovers. Very interesting interview, talked about the market in general.

At the end of the interview he was asked about Rovers, he said that the new owners want to take the club forward, Kean is a very good manager and most interestingly said in the next few hours you could see some “interesting” activity at Rovers. He also said that Kean is looking to play attractive football.

Well Kentaro are in Manchester, in a hotel – negotiating….but the question is – who with!!!

It won't be Formica as that one is already in the bag when the paperwork is finalised.

Think Diouf will leave today too!

Transfer chat (cont.)

There will only be three areas to update.

ROCHINA...has already signed a pre-contract...it's up to Barca to accept the fee...I imagine they will.

FORMICA...all set up to be done...told passport no longer an issue as it has been sorted...so why the delay?...odd.

SAMBA...deal all agreed...as said here on Friday or so...just about the timing of the announcement.

Spoilsport - we don't want the truth at this stage - we want to dream till the last minute. We'll still be satisfied if that's it, but why take the fun out of the day? :)

If - and I stress if - those three are finalised without any snags then the window has been better than average.

Better having these things set up to be finalised than some of the chaos that is about to break out elsewhere.

Chelsea want FOUR signings today. Liverpool need to buy THREE players with the Torres cash. All of those potential deals would have knock-on effects at the clubs who sell their players. Spurs trying for any striker going.

Mental.

But entertaining.

Just watch other clubs going through the madness - and hopefully have your three 'deals' pushed through in time.

What was Jerome Andersson on about this being an "interesting" few hours for Rovers with the fact he was heading up to Rovers and the news Hughesy gave about them being in a Manchester hotel as we speak?

You would have to ask him, but I would imagine that he is talking about signing Formica and Rochina plus the skipper re-signing.

There has been a brief - but sensible - conversation about Diouf going to Birmingham and Larsson heading the other way.

I wouldn't be surprised if this fell down though. Too many agents.

Kentaro boys now back at Ewood....So whatever the Manchester hotel stuff was, is now either complete or over :huh:

From SkySports:

'However, Barca have inserted a clause allowing them to buy him back up until the summer of 2012.'

Nicko, any ideas if this is true? Surely if he is a success he will just be getting into his stride then and we might end up losing him? I suppose there has to be compromise and all that but that seems silly on our part for a player his age?

edit: Sorry this is for Rochina

I would be amazed about that. He is a low fee in the summer, a lower fee now...why do a buy-back? Very odd.

SSN wrote this in the Rochina thing:

"The Newell's Old Boys star is being chased by Monaco and Blackburn, and both are hopeful of sealing his signature on Monday."

Is Monaco still in for Formica or is this just bull ?

[...]

Monaco gave Formica a medical and agreed terms with him last week. He even trained with them.

If anybody cocks it up at the Rovers end he could go back there and join.

Don't dismiss that as a possibility the more the clock ticks by.

There is more to this deal than meets the eye. Clearly.

Man City in for Larsson loan...bizarre.

Nicko, Is Goulon going PNE on loan?

Could Jason Brown follow him there?

Preston want Goulon. There is some club in Spain keen too. He could go to Deepdale after window shuts on an emergency loan.

Brown move would depend on Lonergan being sold...and that is unlikely as we speak.

Two serious updates.

LARSSON...Man City offering silly money as a loan fee...but still likely to be kept by Birmingham...loan fee is MORE than full-time bid offer by Rovers...so that cocks things up for an immediate move to Rovers.

DIOUF...think he will be off...growing interest...won't be Blackpool...could not pay his National Insurance.

On a further note...Adam to Man U is total tripe.

Woohoo! Getting closer to a Formica announcement it seems!

Diouf to Rangers. Loan. Extraordinary.

The Formica thing is baffling.

I am told a deal is agreed. I am told personal terms are agreed.

However there is definitely an issue over passports and visas.

The Argentinians say he has a new Italian passport or is getting one. No idea if that has been done. It seems rather quick.

It is possible - likely, in fact - that he signs and waits to get a new Italian passport before he can play.

Something new always crops up.

Formica deal is still on lads & lasses - he was the Manchester hotel thing today & he is now at Ewood with Kentaro & co.

Barcelona had offered Rochina to renew for 2 more years, but the player preferred to join Blackburn

Can you sign a contract of employment without having the passport that allows you to work here?

Yes, pending a passport.

I think.

Is that it then now? Anything else gonna happen nicko at Rovers ?

Two expensive loans, two foreign captures [hope FIFA are still at the office] and two unwanted men out of the building.

If all of that is ratified then it has been a very decent effort.

The deadline, by the way, is 1am...as long as deals are going through at 11 they should be official.

FORMICA-FIRMA-300x225.jpg

From NOB's site, he looks happy to be here at least

Just wondering... What happen to the young lad Ronieli ??

Came on trial. Jury still out.

Has Diouf to Rangers been confirmed as a done deal???

You may need to wait for that to be confirmed.

There is the FIFA issue.

International transfers MUST go through that.

Kamy summary

This is Kamy.

Superb business by Rovers today and the window in general. 2 experienced players (Jones and Roque) and 2 exciting youngsters (Rochina and Formica). Talk of long term deals for likes of Samba and Robinson, in addition to new contracts for Salgado, Nelson and Roberts.

Also good to see Tom Finn in the photo of Formica signing the contract.

jim mk2 summary

So, to sum up in tabloid hack style

SANTA CRUZ .... loan, £90,000 a week, physiotherapist's dream, currently out injured

JONES ... loan, injury prone, poor disciplinary record, unproven in English football

ROCHINA ... signed, young, unproven, not ready for first team, Spanish, will take one look at east Lancashire girls and weather and take first plane home, high risk

FORMICA ... signed, Argentinian, otherwise ditto

E-H DIOUF... loan to Rangers, one of best and most experienced footballers at the club allowed to leave.

Fifth place here we come !
