ctwilky Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 http://www.channel4.com/news/how-to-buy-a-fooball-club Did anyone watch this? Looking back at this program and venkys tenure at rovers the conclusion I can only come up with is this is how venkys are working... Even tho they wernt featured on this I can't help but think that they have had some knowledge/meetings with some of these people This program has venkys written all over it

mr bishi Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I was terrified that we were going to be one of the clubs named and shamed when this aired.
ctwilky Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Yes I was but to me the way rovers are going is reminiscent to this program buy a cheap club, spend no money, sell players for high value sell club on after a few years - cha Ching ££££
Brfcrule1 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Yeah I saw this it was really bad and put into perpective what football has become. They were offering clubs from the championship like dolly mixtures in a sweet shop and how Bryan Robson & the rest of the criminals got away with it is beyond belief. For owners now it is about owning a little toy once you are fed up with it you throw it away as there is never any money to be made out of a footy team and the wages these over paid prima donnas get is shocking.
2PAC 4 Blackburn Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 This the same one that was shown about 6 months ago?
roverwhelmed Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 This programme definitely opened my eyes, and I felt slightly more insight into the circus that is our football club after watching it, unfortunately. I know Rovers weren't featured, but it helped me to understand HOW naive our owners could have been in their early comments etc if this is the sort of introduction to possible football ownership that they received.

Daniel Louis Grabko (Dan) Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Yeah I saw this it was really bad and put into perpective what football has become. What you say about wages is true, but I would much rather the players get the money than the owners. If that was the case there would be a lot more problems and IMHO a lot more corruption than there is today. Imagine if mill workers got paid the same percentage of turnover at the mills back in the day that players do at football clubs today! No, I think there has to be another way for a football club to operate successfully - my "big idea" is posted at another thread - The Blackburn Football Investment Fund - and offers a viable alternative to this nasty model of ownership that is emerging more and more in the game. It is absolutely sickening knowing that this type of crap is out there, becoming more prevalent, and yet not even being properly investigated, or at least blocked by the FA, Football League, or PL. I'm with Battersby when he says there needs to be more rigid controls to qualify to own a club, but I do think his stance is too complicated. I think the biggest thing should be a transparency requirement. Who is the owner, and where is the money coming from to finance the club. All these convoluted corporate structures and Swiss and Caribbean bank accounts are obvious signs of under-handed behavior. IF you can't even point a finger at the actual owner of a club, there is really something wrong.
