  1. I'm only training for mid distance 40km races in a triathlon.

Did my first Olympic 40km and clocked 1 hour 13 which I was mightily impressed with after a 1.5 k swim and before a 10km run so it's all about pacing yourself and not going flat out in any discipline.

  2. Three punctures in a year? I pitched up at work about a year with both tubes punctured, then the back one went on the way home!

You can also buy kevlar strips (or other material) which fit inside the tyre between it and the inner tube. I've not had a puncture since putting them in (touching wood now.)

A tip I was given is once a week turn the bike over and check the tyres for bits if glass, stone & metal embedded in them. Flick then out with a small screwdriver. It takes five minutes but saves them working their way towards the inner tube.

Those strips sound like a good idea, does it not affect the performance though?

I've only been out a dozen times and haven't had the confidence to complete a serious ride.

  3. I would say not but it depends on what and where you ride. I ride a road bike mainly on rural roads with my tyres inflated to 8 bar (about 115 psi) and pretty much anything I might go over is going to bounce off a tyre inflated to that pressure.

If you are riding in an urban area (more cr@p on road) and using a bike with wide tyres punctures are more likely. Suggestions to avoid punctures would be:

Use the best quality tyres you can afford.

Buy a track pump with pressure gauge and keep tyres correctly inflated. I check tyre pressure before every ride. Soft tyres puncture more easily.

Ride at least three feet from the curb (should be doing that anyway) as the curb area is where all the rubbish collects

Thinking it may be the urban area's. I might invest in a strong rear tyre.

Bloody frustrating and knocks my confidence. Not done over 40k once this year.

  4. Correct. But often the threat of mob violence deters such actions. Maybe the club should send it's own stewards to away matches to monitor and identify the culprits and ban them home and away for a season or two. Alternatively reporting them to the police and providing hard evidence should result in prosecution and an example to the rest.

Even better if this becomes a nationwide initiative and especially if the mob that represents MUaway find that their team have to play a few matches in front of empty seats.

This happens at the majority of away games.

Infact I think bolton away was almost entirely BRFC stewards in the away stand.

  5. Maybe the scheme could be introduced as a pilot scheme and restricted to JW ST holders only then Pafell. imo People sit on the JW stand and not behind the goals for two reasons.

    1. A much better view of a match.

    and

    2. To maintain as much distance as possible from sight and sound of the low life adolescents.

Most people should mature away from the BBE in their 20's.

or we could just have a section for far superior human beings, we could name it after yourself..........

This news has really rocked me, firstly why did stewards\ police not intervene before this incident happens.

It's a very tragic death that should have been prevented

    condolences to family and friends

  6. I don't think it's supposed to be on a par with Shakespeare or Checkov. It's actually aimed at teenagers but adults often enjoy the escapism of it.

You must be in your 20's at a guess or Saw movies are your cup of tea?

Personally I'm looking forward to watching it and the likes of Transformers as it's good to escape the seriousness of everyday life and events.

no saw is a disgusting film

i cant wait to watch transformers, die hard

28 weeks later is my type of film
