Mmmm. Not so sure about that. Booze and drug abuse? Almost guaranteed to cause unhappiness, depression and mental health in-balance. What came first the chicken or the egg? I have a lot of time for Fury the boxer, but have run out of patience with Fury the man. It is always easy pointing the finger elsewhere but as my dad always used to remind me when pointing the finger bear in mind that three fingers point straight back at you! Am not falling for the 'feeling sorry for myself' act in place. Fancy subsequently blaming social media and negative press when actively using it to your advantage for years. I ain't crying in my milk about Fury's supposed problems, that have only seemingly manifested themselves since Nandrolene was allegedly found in his system and he made ridiculous comments about Jews, Homosexuals and other minority groups. His lifestyle has not been condusive to professional sport and this sounds like a convenient cop out to me. I appreciate this post isn't overly politically correct in the current climate, but I do not believe the current convenient spin. Genuine mental health problems are very serious indeed and cause major unhappiness and upset for those affected and also those charged with caring for those afflicted. You don't treat mental health problems with booze and cocaine. Simple as that.

After Fury's retirement and subsequent u-turn the champion's legal representative, Lewis Power QC, said: "Tyson Fury’s recent startling mixed comments on social media as to his retirement and later as to retraction of such we hope can be seen in the light of recent events ; his belief that he has been subjected to constant harassment, hounding by social media and commentators, and his ongoing disputes with certain sporting bodies. It is unsurprising that someone who is in such a vulnerable mental state would be pushed to such bizarre behaviour. "He has recently been diagnosed as suffering from a major depressive illness. He has commenced a current and recommended treatment protocol. "He needs time to benefit from treatment and a chance to recuperate fully. "These comments are paradoxically and effectively symptomatic of his seeking to end all the mounting pressure on him due to his state of mind and are indicative of a coping mechanism deu to the deterioration in his mental health. "The hound of depression is more fierce than any opponent and Tyson’s struggle with his demons is now the biggest fight of his life. "We would appreciate everyone to respect his privacy and give him the necessary time and space in order to recover."

Mmmm. I do keep sticking my neck out. In a two horse race you'd think id get the odd one right. Congrats to Cleverley. Strange old ending. Anyone seen the Parker fight? Another strange ending.

From the BBC. Dundee boxer Mike Towell is in a "critical condition" in hospital after becoming unwell at a bout at Glasgow's Radisson Blu Hotel on Thursday night. Towell, 25, suffered a fifth-round loss to Dale Evans in a St Andrews Sporting Club fight and was rushed to the city's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Club officials and the boxer's family were at his bedside through the night. "All of our thoughts and prayers are with Mike and the Towell family at this very difficult time," said a spokesman. "Mike Towell is in a critical condition in Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth hospital after his fifth-round defeat in the British welterweight title eliminator with Dale Evans at the club last night. "Club director Iain Wilson and Mike's manager, Tommy Gilmour, travelled with him in the ambulance after the fight and have been at his bedside through the night with his family. "We took the immediate decision to suspend last night's show in the wake of Mike's contest." Evans, from Carmarthen, wrote on his Twitter account on Thursday night that his "celebrations were on hold".

Bit of a joke Cleverley getting another shot. Really dislike him. Can't see him knocking anyone out, can't see him winning on points over there either.

Very nice fighter Linares and he deserved the win. Unfortunately for Crolla he has always had to substitute what he lacks in raw talent with hard work. That often shows at the highest levels. He is honest enough to admit that and has been a breath of fresh air this last three years or so, working hard to improve, acting professionally and winning a number of tough looking fights and a version of the world title. Talking of acting professionally, good old Tyson. Tremendous representative of boxing and the UK in general. No idea what he is playing at, but now he's alienating even those who tolerated his nuances.

BJS has really irritated me though his blatant inactivity, cradling his title, unwillingness to fight triple G, and all the social media BS on IFL TV.

I wonder if the owners can find the ground for that one? -
The levels really show at boxing. Simply no hiding place.

With Khan and Brook maybe. But I really thought Smith had a good chance. Fought well, gave his all, credit to Canello.
-
Wish these British lads would stop getting beat. Smith dropped by body shots. Interesting really as Jimmy Kelly hurt Smith to the body a couple of times as well and I had wondered if body shots would tell in this fight. Wish Froch would come back. It was good knowing our guy would still be stood up 12 rounds later.
-
I was wrong about Khan and Brook, but Smith is not a blown up Welterweight. Still feeling patriotic and letting it cloud my views. Smith to stop him to the body in the 10th round.

Bad night for Eddie Hearn. Three world titles, three defeats.
-
117 - 111, 116 - 112, 115 - 113. Personally thought Hall won. He kept coming forward, won most of the rounds after 5 and looked fresher at the end. Neither genuine world class although both have held titles. Both lack a decisive punch.

A bit deceptive only following boxing on Sky Khod. You end up thinking only the Matchroom lads are any good or at a decent level. Loads of good boxers out there with limited opportunities. Impressed with how boxing has gone to the fans via social media. Behind the scenes access and comment from the main players co-ordinated to benefit all. Football could learn a few pointers from boxing's current promotional strategy.

That crouched forward style, long extension and excellent follow through, great feet and movement, all with a fierce determination. Some fighter Triple G, but as you say his chin is absolutely top drawer. Believed in Brook and thought he could pull it off. Proud he went out on his feet. Looked like he trained for power and hoped to knock Golovkin out. Still IBF world champion at welterweight, but this now feels like a defining moment for Brook having championed the extra weight gain.

Ok. So Abbey has had a sneaky bet, Gav and Tomphill are increasingly undecided. Brilliant! A proper fight at last. Call me patriotric, or confused, or a wishful thinker, but Kell Brook will win tonight against all the odds. I wanted Brook to beat Porter, Khan to beat Canello, Fury to beat Klitchko, AJ to beat Martin, Smith to beat Canello, Brook to beat Golovkin. Yes I want the Brits to win. All you fence sitters will give me grief tomorrow if Brook gets bounced in 4. Well believe it or not and you can check back if you want but the only fight I have called incorrectly in over 12 months is Khan v Canello. Pity I am not a betting man! Kell Brook - And the NEW.....,

Have a great day Tomps.

Boxing is booming in the UK. Genuinely believe that Brook has a very good chance and said so from day one. I am going to have a score on Brook inside four rounds. Also saw him sparring Smith. I rate Smith and didn't see anything negative. Brook took a couple of shots to the body and got clipped on his chin as you say but came back with his own shots as well. Seen a lot of complaints regarding Stub Hub and wondered how it worked. The only thing I didn't like was the ease with which Smith pushed him away. Also available on you tube about 2 minutes after the final bell. Until it gets removed about an hour later. Funny old story all that Tomps. Irregularities spotted in Feb 2015. Investigation deferred to September / October of that year. Further delayed awaiting more tests allowing the Fury / Klitschko fight to go ahead. Details published in the Mirror or Sun in June 216. Fury threatened court action against the board. Further delayed until after the re-match. Hughie Fury also under investigation.

Good times following Hatton, bet that was a great trip. The build up to the Mayweather fight was good fun. I'd have bet on Hatton too for all the wrong reasons. Thought Khan had a chance and would suprise a few. Badly mistaken. This feels different even though Golovkin is better than Canello. Can't understand Brook taking the fight unless he believes he can beat up Golovkin. Brooks a winner and it's an interesting match up. Remember the full members cup, anythings possible. COYB and Brook.
-
Brook v Golovkin. Bet your looking forward to that Tomps. Explain how Stub Hub works please when time allows. I watched all Golovkins knockouts the other day. He lifts people off their feet. Clubbing power. Brook is top drawer. But triple g is the same. Can Brook handle his power? Murray lasted till later rounds. I'm sticking to my guns and banking on him staying stood up. Brook on points.

Well said about Joyce Gav. A credit indeed.

We have rarely conceded four, if ever, in any of the previous two seasons if my memory serves me correctly. Would I fancy Allardyce, Pulis, Warnock, Souness, Pearson, Lambert etc to keep us up this season with the existing squad. Yup I would bet my mortgage on it. Am I confident this oxygen sucking, money grabbing, self serving parasite will keep us up? Nope, as he will endeanger little respect or true belief amongst his charges and it is a long, hard season at this level with your backs against the wall. Whilst Venky's are of course to blame for all my recent heartaches and headaches, I personally believe that a succession of obnoxious money grabbing individuals have legally raped the club for little or no return. Both players and managers. Few can hold their heads up and state they did what it said on the tin, tried their hardest, contributed fully and earnt their huge salaries. I imagine that cycle will continue this season. Lambert, minus Hanley and a couple of loans, was supposed to get this side promoted. )) Coyle is supposed to keep us up? I am all for being even handed, but that doesn't quite stack up. . -

We are not nailed on for relegation. There is still some right old tosh in this division. In terms of our expenditure, even at this moment in time, we should be comfortably clear of relegation come the end of the season. We are a bad team alright, with a number of very poor players but once the season kicks in, with injuries, loss of form and suspensions you will see other very poor teams trying desperately to escape this division with poor results. With the lip licking, lying, smarmy, spin doctor at the helm, supposedly a huge improvement on the underachieving Lambert, we should be rocketing onwards under his astute guidance, especially coupled with the huge budget the owners simply couldn't trust Lambert to waste. Anyone stating we are certainties to go down, gives Coyle a reason for chronic underperformance and a get out of jail card immediately. -
Watched the fight again last night. Hard to pick a winner for sure and if Santa Cruz had got the verdict I wouldn't have complained. Cruz threw over 1000 punches and rarely took a step backwards. I feel a better scoring system needs to be implemented. Not because this fight was so hard to call, but due to the continued vagary amongst the referee scorecards. One judge had this fight even (which I though fair), one at 117-11 and one at 116-112.
