  1. THanks FLB, You've just made me very happy.  I can't check the BBC website in China as it's a government site and therefore banned, so finding out such good news has made me very happy!

You can sometimes get on the BBC News by using a proxy server such as http://www.mrprivacy.com. The reason they ban the BBC news section is apparently because you can get it in Chinese. It's not banned in Hong Kong however. They also banned Wikipedia recently because some things they disagreed with were placed on it which is damn annoying as it is such a useful site. mad.gif Where are you anyway? Beijing? Shanghai?

As for Ferguson...he may be playing for a different manager very soon. Who's to say the manager will want him? Maybe Souey will put in a bid...he only has about 12 midfielders so it's not out of the question! biggrin.gif

  2. Dan, not sure if you are suggesting that beer is a solution to dehydration but beer/alcohol is a diuretic = makes you pee, therefore makes you dehydrated. Hence the pint of water before bedtime to stave off the overhang.

Most hangover cures actually contain alcohol. Not sure why but it helps your body get rid of last night's excess by having a (small) bit more in the morning. A hangover doesn't solely relate to dehydration, there is still the matter of getting the crap out of the system from what you have drunk. Hence why red wine gives a worse hangover than white wine.

  3. One of the greats of football should have a minute silence. As his lifestyle...well, he didn't go around killing anyone did he? If he wanted to spend his money on the booze and the girls then fair play to him. As for not trying to give up the booze, he did.

Even when drinking made him physically sick he still needed it. When even a liver transplant isn't enough to stop someone drinking then you have to accept then well...that's life. Or, sad as it was for Best, it meant death. Have to feel for his father though who has now lost a son as well as a wife to alcoholism.

A great footballer first and foremost. Do some people always have to sit and judge? Forget whatever waste there may have been, remember the greatness.

    RIP El Beatle.

  4. What you can't seem to get is that Celtic and Rangers fans are, in the main, exactly the same as any other fans.  It's just that, with very few exceptions, there are more of us around, and we've got more to be proud of.  I'm not even particularly thinking of the league titles, but both teams have won European cups (not THE European cup in one case), as indeed have Dundee United and Aberdeen, which is quite a favourable statistic when you compare it to English clubs.

The response was due to ulster rover claiming that Rangers were the most successful club in the world, which is plainly rubbish. While not wishing to belittle the achievements of the Old Firm that is obviously a ludicrous statement. Sure Scotland have a decent record in European competition, although Dundee United haven't won a European trophy as you suggested. Couple of great campaigns in the eighties though.

As for "we've got more to be proud of" taunt...grow up will you? Each football supporter has as much to be proud of their club as any other...if it's just the silverware that makes you proud then you are no better than any glory supporter. A committed Rochdale fan has as much to be proud of as any big club supporter.

Regarding the religion/sectarian issue; it's only been mentioned by a few posters so it certainly isn't an overall view. While I'm not Glaswegian I am also bored of hearing it brought up on every occasion Celtic or Rangers are mentioned so I can understand why you are so irritated by it. It wasn't helped however by Ferguson himself who brought the issue of his own experience of it into the public domain via his interviews upon arriving at Ewood Park.

Agree about Ferguson getting his comeuppance...happy days! Hopefully the Hearts-Hibs challenge can leave Rangers languishing in fourth for a while to come.

  5. And Four Lane Blue look at Rovers support if you want to see ugly blokes with beer bellies.  (about 70% of Rovers fans fall into those categories)

It was only a throwaway joke based on shilito misspelling a word/a typo ('midless' instead of 'mindless')...I didn't mean it! biggrin.gif

PS - There are lots of gorgeous Glasgow girls! Happy now? tongue.gif

  6. Personally I'd like some of what MGP is drinking...

Blackburn star confident of Gunners upset

However I think if I had a drink to hand I'd pour it over this Arsenal fan's head...

"I'm told the team are going through a rigorous training plan ahead of the Blackburn game to get them used to the tactics employed by Mark Hughes' men. They are spending today being elbowed in the face, getting studs in the knee, their hair pulled Savage-style, kicked in the ###### and pinched in the back when the ref's not looking."

    The Arse indeed... rolleyes.gif

  7. Must have been the Charlton game.

    362348[/snapback]

    Nope.

    From the link...

"Meanwhile, two midfielders illuminated the City of Manchester Stadium with stellar displays as Stuart Pearce's City fought out an enthralling stalemate with Mark Hughes' Blackburn.

Steven Reid was in inspirational form for Rovers, creating chance after chance in a dynamic display that showed just why he has become such an important player for both Blackburn and the Republic of Ireland, for whom he has 15 caps. "

Then it goes on about Kiki Musampa.
