I've decided to keep mentioning John Marquis until it gets annoying like I did Marcus Maddison last window. I think the rumours came from me wanting him so much, sorry.

Anyway, I've got a new bae. So here we go.

Good age, lot to prove, focal point and a "street fighter" like DG, good eye for goal, good attitude, he deserves and I'm sure will get a shot at a higher level.

It'll take a couple of mill but he'd bag a few.

    Hear hear!

Yeah I was really hoping for the Marquis signing during the summer. Really liked what I saw of him last season. Bit of a warrior, like.

He is great at knowing where to be in the box. The goal he got against Forest when Graham played it across he was literally on the line to tap it in

Yep! First day of the season versus Ipswich as well. The fella has a lot to his game. Still reckon he hasn't hit peak form yet this season, so I'm excited to see what he can from here on out.

The thing is, for all of his flair, his tricks, his nutmegs etc, the thing that boosts his price up so high is his consistent stream of goals. Hes a poacher but from a 10 position.

That goal on Saturday perfectly illustrates your point. Bit of ping-pong in the box (no Thailand jokes, please) and who pops up at point blank to smack it in? He's a sly fox, alright.

Saturday reaffirmed it he's not missed here in any way shape or form and those 20k pwk wages have certainly been put to better use at Ewood.

From watching it through the laptop, I can only agree. Lot of huff, puff, and arm waving. The most significant thing he did was (unsurprisingly) pick up a completely stupid yellow card.

Corry Evans, and Harrison Reed who struggled with camp late on in the Stoke win, may also be added to that list"

Reed and Evans seems like down to earth, Johnny Normal kind of blokes, so it's hardly surprising.

Theatrical preening like RuPaul? Dame Edna esque double entendre? I honestly don't think they could pull it off.

  6. Because of Williams' injury , Bell finally got the run of starts that a few of us had been waiting eagerly for.

Now that Williams back to full fitness, do you think that Bell has done enough to keep his place?

I don't go to games so I know in the eyes of some that precludes me from having an opinion on it. Fair enough, to a degree, but regular game-goers, what's your take on it?

However, going on the games I've seen online, I think Bell has done enough to warrant his continued presence in the starting 11. I thought he looked a threat when he was pushed further up the field after Williams came on.

My caveat here is that I didn't see a kick of the Bristol City capitulation, so I honestly don't know how he performed there.

It was in one of the nationals. Obviously it isn't fact, which is why the word open was in inverted comma  but if he was increasing his pay and moving to a club likely to be challenging for the  Prem you could believe it to be true.

    I see. Thanks!

This needs to be a wake-up call for the lad. He simply has to do his community or he's going to prison next time. But more than that he's needs to sort his priorities out now before he's telling some lads in a bar in  Marbella about how he could've played in the premier league and how good he was in league 1 in the 17/18 season.

200%. If he makes a balls of it again after this there'll be no coming back from it, I'm sure. For Rovers at any rate.

Hopefully the daft git gets the message.

Of course he's a bit green. Young players show that whoever they are at times. You think he should be shunted aside a couple more seasons until he's "ready" despite being one of the club's more potentially valuable assets.

Simply put, Lenihan has made this season have lead to goals. Todd, of his Rovers era, most likely wouldn't have made them mistakes. With me still?

Therefore, if we had someone like that I would be starting him alongside Mulgrew with Lenihan as his understudy and future successor.

Hammering Phil Brown after he insulted Todds dad is a bit different imo. Toddy was an old school hard man who was probably fine as long as no one took liberties.  Brad seems to fall under the worrying snowflake label of modern players who just want to do as they please and expect someone else to clear up the mess, in short they don't particularly care for the rules then melt when they have to face up to them.

Marshall, Jake Kean, Stokes now Dack the list is endless and the clubs should deal with serial offenders  swiftly and harshly or rip up their damn contracts.

Phil Brown had it coming as far as I can tell. It was meant to be a team building trip and Brown wouldn't leave off slagging Todd over his old man resigning from the Bolton job. Todd was one of my faves during that era of Rovers. Wouldn't mind someone like him on the books today. Could be the steel to Mulgrew's silk.

What an arrogant, entitled little arsewipe. And to think the tosser was 'open' to a move to WBA even though the club has been bending over backwards to help him. Dack owes BRFC after this and I hope the little chubster gets his head down and shows some respect for a football club that is much bigger than him. And how did he not get round to do doing his community order, it's not like he's busy after lunch. T**t.

Acting like a dickhead is one thing but I don't know many people who have attacked a copper...and then failed to do the community service order that resulted from it. I take back my flippant 'tarring and feathering' comment from earlier. It's too good for him.

    Where does that come from?

  12. I can't help but feel sorry for the chap. Argue the toss about whether he was good enough or not, but that's a really rotten injury for him.

As far as I know it's the last year of his contract? Open to correction on that, but it means his recovery is really a 'make or break' situation.

    Good luck to him.

I suppose the Chapman one could be looked at again in Jan if it doesn't work out. Clearly a deal that both Rovers and I suspect the player would be happy to do.

Note to self: Do not spend the entire day on here after the last deadline...

Sage advice. Last time around I was lying on the sofa hitting refresh on my smartphone getting ever more agitated while my two little nephews were wondering why their uncle wasn't picking them up and chasing them around the living room. Felt like a double-ass afterwards. And for what?!

TMI, but I'm bringing em to the park for a kickaround tomorrow. Can't wait. The small lad can be Dacky, the older fella Benno. Given my age, temperment and fitness levels, I'll be Tugay.

Getting greedy but be gutted if the Chapman one didn't come off. Can see it being a too little too late situation on that one.

An echo of my own feelings on the situation. I'm steeling myself for disappointment, but I'll probably turn a cartwheel if it works out.

No worries. To be fair, plenty of posters have commented similarly on his performances this year, so certainly wasn't looking to dig you out or even say that he's not been poor for the games I've missed. Only saw the highlights for the Hull game and saw what he did in the build up to the goal, so assumed he played well but obviously that's no good if for the rest of the game he was dire!

That said, I sometimes wonder if fans generally (myself included) just don't really appreciate the role that defensive midfielders do unless they're so good that they can do a bit of everything. I've seen comments elsewhere that Richie was poor in the second half of last season, and granted he wasn't quite as swashbuckling as he was in his first months, but for me he was doing the job of a ball-winner to aplomb: protect his defenders & build a platform for our attacking players. Richie's clearly still a popular figure, so I don't think that any criticism he gets comes from the same place as that of some of our other less technically gifted players over recent years. Even so, I think plenty of fans can under-rate the role of the Smallwood's of this world, even when they're effectively going about their business in my view. Personally, I think that we should worry about Smallwood (and Evans for that matter) when our defence looks overly exposed or when our attacking players aren't getting a platform.

We've had a fairly kind run of fixtures, so maybe I'll eat my words in a few more games, but if he continues to play as he did last weekend he'll do fine.

I hope you don't have to eat any words! Smallwood playing well is great for everyone.

I agree with you regarding the back end of last season. I thought some of the criticism was unfair. In every game I watched on ifollow (most of them) he was snapping into challenges and protecting the back four admirably well.

Haven't seen every game this season, so I can't speak about those I've missed, but I came away from the Brentford game thinking what was all the fuss about when it came to Smallwood.

Against a good team, he was absolutely fine in my view. Nothing spectacular in terms of his distribution, but didn't look out of place at all at this level. I accept it might be different when we're looking to break down teams that are sitting back against us, but as a ball winning midfielder I don't think there was anything to criticise in terms of last weekend at least.

If Evans keeps up his form & Reed/Davenport look a cut above when they get a chance then maybe it changes, but until then I think it's still very much Smallwood's shirt to lose.

Very heartening to read. Funnily enough, I didn't catch the Brentford so it's good to hear that his combatative abilities are present and correct. No, of the games I've seen I thought he was especially poor against Hull and no great shakes against Ipswich.

But please don't misunderstood me, I like the player and want to see him do well.

Just that pillock from earlier wound me up with his 'agenda' guff!
