At some point, sometime, we'll have no-one worthwhile left. Anybody any good will want the going rate.

    Rovers don'r pay it.

    From Google Gemini:

Based on available data, Blackburn Rovers' wage bill is significantly lower than the average for a Championship club.
Here's a breakdown of the key points:
     * Below-average wage bill: For the 2023-2024 season, Blackburn's total wage bill was around £25.4 million. This was well below the Championship average of £38.1 million.
     * Ranking among Championship clubs: Reports for the 2024-2025 season indicate that Blackburn Rovers' weekly wage bill of £234,000 ranks 17th among the 24 teams in the league. This places them among the lower-paying clubs in the Championship.
     * Individual player salaries: For context, the average Championship player wage is around £10,000 a week, but top earners at other clubs can make significantly more, especially those with parachute payments from the Premier League.
     * Impact of financial strategy: Blackburn's financial model appears to be more cautious. Their staff costs, including wages, were the seventh lowest in the league in the 2023-24 season. The club has also generated significant income from player sales, such as the transfer of Adam Wharton to Crystal Palace, which helps offset their expenses. This suggests a strategy of relying on player development and sales rather than high-spending on wages.
In conclusion, Blackburn Rovers do not pay the "going rate" in wages for a Championship club if the "going rate" is considered to be the league average. Their wage bill is consistently in the lower half of the division, reflecting a more fiscally conservative approach compared to many of their rivals, particularly those with parachute payments.

  2. Very nice! Cantwell ran the show and makes Hedges look a player. (Usually Ryan has me screaming abuse at the telly!) I like Alebiosu…..good replacement…..I remember how long it took Brittain to find his feet. Ohashi may work hard but there’s little result….he’s too easily nudged off the ball. Gueye isn’t the answer upfront either……..new striker please.
I know many are sad to see Travis go but I’m not one of them. He rarely scores, has no guile….prefers the back pass and can be relied upon to give a niggly foul or 2 in dangerous positions. Tavares looks better and Tronstad was excellent again today. So was McLouglin. Ribeiro and Hyam were ok. Hull were poor mind.

Kargbo, Henriksson (and Miller) are works in progress but De Neve ……not so sure about.

  3. Same old. No danger going forward. Cantwell ineffective and doesn’t look up for it. How many corners is that where the opposition goal was never in danger?

Dolan, who i love to hate, has been the stand out player so far. Baker disappointing…his forward passes (all but one) have been poor.

  4. Terrible watch so far. Gueye offering little, he panics every time he has a shooting opportunity. Cantwell unable to influence the game. Duberry has been the main man with some great drives into the box. The defence has been good except when Hull decided to pressurize our “passing out from the back” tactics. Defenders have put Pears under pressure and he was struggling to get the ball away! He had to make a great save to redeem himself after one poor pass out!

It’s  hard to see where a goal is coming from!

A poor footballer? Go and have a lie down.

Let’s agree to disagree. When did Hedges go off? I’m no fan of his but he was protecting Beck effectively in the first half. Beck was exposed several times in the 2nd half…..where was Hedges? I don’t think he was taken off until after their second……so what happened?

We dropped 2 points there. Take our chances and it’s 3-0 up at half time.

Sunderland fans will probably feel the same about the second half.

Which player used Gueye as a stepladder for the assist? I think we’ve found a use for Big Mak.

Batth I think. It was a massive effort….Gueye wasn’t getting there!

  7. Pears was very good today. It was a well-deserved win…..in truth, I wasn’t really expecting much! Cantwell is classy but spoiled a few promising attacks today by poor decision making.

Travis, who I criticize regularly, has been good for a while now. This version of Travis is just what we need……good passes and not the relentless momentum killing backpasses of old.

Not so sure about Batth, slow and indecisive and Hedges does nothing. We wouldn’t have seen that performance if Dolan was around either!

Weimann in the right place at the right time…..twice! Nice to see a forward doing his job! Gueye looked poor again. Ohashi was better today too but no end product. Silly penalty JRC. Wasn’t it good to see Baker pop the ball in like that? Mid-fielders having a go…..who’d a thought?

OH! And we played it out from the back more effectively than usual.

The players I didn’t mention by name did fine too.

I think we are currently reaping the rewards of actually having a bench this season.

In the 5 sub game, the opponents can sink you with the ability to freshen up with quality.

I think that absolutely killed us last season.

One of Eustace’s priorities seems to be keeping everyone involved via his use of subs. As well as adding fresh quality and variety at the appropriate time, more players are getting the chance to impress. I like it.

    Excellent recruitment.

Yes, I wonder who’s responsible…..Gestede? It’s transformed the team and given us all something to dream about.
Let’s hope that Cantwell can do that every week, a bit of guile has been sorely missed.
I went down to Brunton Park to watch him last Tuesday….he was ok but it was basically Carlisle’s youth team! Duberry was sharp though.
