Spent today thinking about our incomings and I’m more distressed about it.

Add up the incoming and outgoing fees and wages, and Wharton needn’t have been sold for any of the other business to happen.

I think GB/JDT were told they’d need to sell significantly to raise funds (and contribute to the club finances), did so, and were then told ‘actually, no’.

Just my hunch, based on the maths of fees/wages. I’ll reiterate, every other piece of business in and out could have been done without selling Wharton.

Reminds me of the Lambert situation when we sold Rhodes. History repeating itself and I wouldn’t blame JDT for leaving at this stage. He did his best but he’s a professional dealing with amateurs, and when he isn’t given the tools to do his job he can call it like it is and leave with his head held high imo.

  2. Good result after going 1-0 down. With their excellent travelling support it was quite a testing atmosphere but we showed fortitude to come back and dominate after a shaky start. Szmodics, Gallagher and JRC excellent. Moran anonymous, he needs dropped. Like others have said I’d like to see Markanday or Gilsenan in for him. Loving these cup runs under JDT, and I am relishing testing ourselves against Newcastle. I just hope we aren’t humiliated but in the cup you never know what could happen.

Always interesting to hear people who don't see him often talk about big Sam G and laugh at the nonsense they come out with.

To be fair it's kind of understandable, as sometimes it looks like he has everything needed to be a quality striker.

Not bashing by the way, I like Sam personally.

I had guys at work who never watch rovers remark on how good Gallagher is after watching us vs Celtic in a friendly. The odd time he is unplayable and he certainly has all the attributes as you say. Just no killer instinct. If he had Jordan Rhodes’s brain he’d be premiership quality. All that said I’m glad he’s back and he’s been impressive tonight (the championship Harry Kane 😂).

Former Dingle Joey Barton, who has been on a one man mission to become the most controversial person on Twitter has now dragged Rovers into the mix, after the Rovers admin (perhaps regrettably so now) commented on one of Barton's tweets.

    How it started:

    And it continues:

    Apologies for the tweet spam.

Fair play to the Rovers twitter account for taking him on. His views are popular with a lot of fans but he never impressed me as a player, even less as a half-baked philosopher, and not at all as a pound shop Tommy Robinson. He was a bully when he was a player and he’s still a bully now.

Would it really de-value? The players talent doesn’t change so why would his value?

If we’re in League 1 then any decent player will be off. We can set our own price on players but if Wharton sees someone like Hayden Carter going for market value in L1 then I’d imagine he would be very upset if we refuse to sell for the perceived value of a talented youngster in the third tier.

He has input into signings and whether we sign them or not.

He probably fed up keep repeating the same old comments week in week out

Yeah he probably has some say but I’m beginning to think it’s minimal. He’s practically begging “the club” to not sell Gallagher which implies that the decision won’t be his to make. It’s all conjecture on our behalf although one thing I am sure of is that managers never get bored of repeating the same old comments week after week!

One good thing about the man, he really is a straight dealer. Very honest. I to think he'll go, no decent manager would put up with shit like this for very long.

What an absolute clown shop shit show our club had become.

    Diabolical.

    100%

He's definitely the best manager we’ve had under the Venkys and I hope we don’t lose him for non-football reasons. Results need to improve but I don’t lay much blame with him. Nobody else could succeed at our club with players not being replaced and no investment.

  8. Whether Guardiola could win the league with a smaller club is an interesting question, and ultimately a question we will never have answered as I doubt he’d be interested in taking on a club without massive resources.

Is it more impressive to win consistently at the top level or to win when the odds are overwhelmingly against you? Claudio Ranieri or Pep Guardiola?

I don’t think Pep has anything to prove by taking on a smaller team. He won the treble in two different leagues and the top league in three different countries. His list of achievements is incredible and will probably lead to him being remembered as City’s greatest ever manager and a legend to Barcelona fans.

  9. I don’t think he has much input into signings and I got a real sense of frustration on his behalf when reading his comments on transfers up until now. In his latest interview he won’t discuss transfers which indicates to me that he has been told to toe the line.

He seems pissed off (again) in this interview and I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t in charge at the end of the season for one reason or another.

I remember years ago emailing red bull asking them to consider buying us,

mainly because they were buying clubs and sinking lots of money in them , thought we would have been a good fit for their portfolio, ex league champs, their can has similarity to our top, our abbreviated name would be rBBr

I was of course mainly joking however I received a totally serious email back from some management exec saying thanks for bringing us to their attention but they weren’t looking at an English investment at the time, however if they did they would consider us. Might be time to re-ask 😂

    Waggott out!

Yeah 2nd series was even better than the 1st.Only hope there will be another after the production company went bust.

It was a brilliant finale to s2. I got straight on to google after it finished and apparently s3 has been filmed with a hopeful release date of September. S4 has been approved as well 😀

The Irish gangland series Kin is dropping on BBC iPlayer on Saturday,id highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it

    Anyone give it a go?

Kin is excellent. It only improves for S2 when Bren is released from prison. He’s a brilliant character in the mold of those evil gits you love to hate in Game of Thrones.

Bleeding ada, won the hearts of the fan base, Christ almighty.

It's like Winston Smith learning to love big brother.

I remember the scene where he goes into a back street pub thinking if there's hope it lies with the proles, then he realises the proles are an absolute state and there's no hope.

It's a moment of utter despair. Much how I feel at the moment.

We've never played in the fourth tier, does it really beckon?

If you want to know what the future of Rovers is under Venkys, picture a boot stamping on a human face - forever.

Our subs ALWAYS make us worse.

I said it after the Hull game we need to play with 2 x CDMs.. Tronstad and Travis... for now until we can get back some resilience...

So then where do you play Wharton? He’s been the one bright spark of this season. He was excellent today with his work rate, first touch and passing range making him really stand out. He’s top quality in that position as he breaks play up well and gets us chances time and again. I wasn’t 100% sure before but he is a class act and will be a premiership player by next season.

  15. Too many players in that team who are not championship standard. Wahlstedt, Moran, Markanday, Ennis, Leonard, Hill, might all be good one day but they’re not what we need right now. The squad is just not good enough. We’re in an awful run and showing relegation form now but it’s down to missing so many first teamers and having to rely on loans, free transfers and cast offs to bolster our squad.

It all comes back to having no resources to replace the players we’ve lost and build a squad to challenge for promotion. Not the fault of JDT or Broughton IMO, the blame lies with Venkys. Sad times.

  16. What a strange game. We look like the players have only just met each other. Defensively all over the place. Keep giving the ball away. But two great goals, especially the first from Szmodics have me feeling glad that I didn’t turn off in disgust at 2-0 (it was very, very close). Turned out to be an exciting match, a real advert for the championship.
