You would be right in thinking that. He has got a Patreon page set up where people can get daily football stories, transfer/manager updates and so on, for a monthly fee.

Nobody within Ewood seems to know what is happening, so how a football journalist is expected to is beyond me. But each to their own, I guess.

Good grief. Anybody who pays for the privilege of reading Alan Nixon’s made up nonsense needs their head examined, and deserves to be parted from every penny they spend on the service.

You nailed it in your second paragraph - from a logical perspective anything he reports about rovers has to be fabricated, and why anybody gives his gossip and rumour-mongering a second glance is beyond me.

  2. TM has done a good job here so far. People forget about the shambles we were in when he took over, the unbroken succession of clowns, crooks and jokers that had previously managed us, and the general air of depression and futility that surrounded us.

However… If we finish outside the top 6 I do think it’s time for a change, 5 years is a long time in football, and the general boom/bust cycle of our form is indicative of a pattern that could repeat ad infinitum if we don’t switch things up. That said, TM could leave with his head held high and should be thought of as the best manager we’ve had post Venkys.

If he gets us to the Prem then I’d consider him one of the best coaches we’ve ever had, although that doesn’t seem likely, even a playoff spot would mean he deserves another bite of the cherry as clear progression would be shown. I cannot believe that some here still criticise and claim that they would sack him now or even after a successful promotion.

    Some predictions…

Mowbray will go. He looked like he’d had enough 18 months ago. We will be linked with loads of managers but will take ages before inevitably raiding the HSH scrapheap. My money is on Pulis.

We will lose Nyambe, Rothwell and Lenihan. All will get far better deals than we offered, and at least one will be a premier league squad player. People will deludedly start saying “I bet he regrets leaving, he hardly plays for them”, completely ignoring the fact they are now firmly in millionaire territory.

We will sell Ash Phillips for a couple or three million plus add ons to a big club, which will be enough for some people to excuse losing the three mentioned above for nothing.

We will sign Harry Chapman up for another year and play him in the first couple of games next season before loaning him out to Doncaster. Bradley Johnson will sign a new deal in November.

Talks with Travis over a new deal will stall, and our entire transfer budget will go on Zeefuik.

There will be a Brereton Saga. He will be linked with half a dozen clubs throughout the summer before joining one of them on deadline day for half the initial fee that was rumoured.

Season tickets will go up in price and go on sale 48 hours before the opening game. There will be no kits in the club shop until the end of September.

We really do need to get promoted.

That is a very depressing read but probably as good a prediction as I have seen.

completely agree, but how unprofessional of Tony Mowbray to leak to the press about everything.

Mowbray isnt naive he knows what fans are like and knew theyd get this abuse.

Ridiculous post. People are responsible for their own actions and you can’t blame TM for letting this news out. I’m sure if nothing was said we’d have the same boring old crap from the same people about “silence from the club” or a “breakdown in communications”. Some people are so desperate to blame the manager for everything. It’s sometimes funny but it’s getting exasperating now.

I don't think you can ignore this season when looking at that question. Equally, it would be wrong to totally ignore the previous two (especially the run last year).

I think, assuming that there is no death spiral and we miss out on the play offs, a one year rolling deal is entirely fair. If we go up he deserves the financial security of knowing he'll get some pay off if we sack him during a tough prem season, seeing as he would have made us over a hundred million or whatever it is these days. If we finish in the play offs but don't go up, he deserves another go after massively overachieving this year.

I think that's fair, but also doesn't mean we'll go handing out a 3 or 4 year deal off the strength of one brilliant season.

My thoughts exactly. He’s earned another crack at it, he built the squad, created the system, and he has definitely overachieved with these players. I wanted him out last season but it would be unreasonable and foolish to discount the excellent progress this time out.

So you're admitting they're not remotely good enough to be stand-by for a promotion chasing side then, if you don't think someone in League One or Two would take them on loan.

We’re on a tight budget. Hardly likely to sign another backup GK when we’ve already got two. Pears was bad in his last match but I think everyone is just hoping that we’ll not have to use him again. The odds are pretty good for that given that we’re approaching the end of the season.

I’d far rather we spent any remaining money on a backup striker or a backup for Travis, which would be a much more sensible use of any resources we have, rather than spending on a fourth GK.

Rovers have kept 7 clean sheets in the last 8 league games. Thats is outstanding

Lenihan was my man of the match and here are his stats from the game via Rovers chat

Didn’t see the match today but Lenihan has impressed me in every game I’ve caught this season. After his performances last season I thought he’d reached the limits of his development and would have been happy to see him go, but he’s kicked on and taken his game to another level now. He’s awesome in the air, positionally aware, and has become very accurate with those long balls from deep. What’s changed? Is he more suited to a 3? Is it because Ayala has had more appearances this season?

Vidal is on 105K / week and they have a years option. There’s absolutely zero chance of us signing someone as high profile as Arturo Vidal. What could we even offer him? 15K a week and an apartment in Manchester? Come on, he’s playing Champions League football for Inter Milan.

Ben Arfa has been chucked out of every club he’s ever been at for being a nightmare in the dressing room, he’s the last person I’d want to join.

Sturridge is allegedly on 80K a week in Australia, what do we suggest we offer him? “Danny, how do you feel about moving from Perth to Blackburn and taking a 90% wage cut?”

I’d much rather we carried on doing what we’re doing. Young, hungry players that fit in with the dressing room and are willing to run through brick walls. If that’s Hedges and Souttar them in I’m.

I suppose you are right, I was in full on fm2022 mode there! I completely agree on Sturbridge but I got carried away with the romance of signing a Chilean legend off the back of BBD’s new fame. The model is working beautifully and almost every time we sign an older, “legendary” player, it has been a disaster.

It’s nice to dream but for me the most important transfer business would be tying up some contracts for our star performers.

Thinking aloud (freebies) and strictly spitballing re: experienced hands down the home straight:

Hatem Ben Arfa - 34 but might enjoy one last hunt for glory helping us get up?

André Wisdom - RB cover, experienced, 28yo.

    Maicon - CB, experienced, international.

    Winston Reid - as above.

Henri Saivet - 31, attacking midfield, possibly no need due to returning Dack.

Mikel - 34, past it potentially, but experienced at the top level.

Contracts ending: One last shoot for the Premier League?

Arturo Vidal - You know why! Pre-contract too.

    Felipe - 32, centre back

    Axel Witsel - 32, midfield

    Danny Wass - 32, midfield

    Cenk Tosun?

    Steve Cook at Bournemouth?

Ben Arfa could be the new Berkovic. Arturo Vidal would be immense.

I read up a little on him last night and he was being described as a late developer who has come on an awful lot the past 18 months. Its only a twitter rumour at the minute anyway

Hopefully so. I know that Brad Lyons was a top player in the NI league and he hasn’t made any impact at the professional levels. Admittedly the Irish league is nominally professional so a slightly higher standard. I suppose Jamie Vardy is a good example of a late developer that made the grade.
