  10. Rovers' global advisor Shebby Singh confirmed to BRFCS chief reporter Kamy after his interview with BRFCS yesterday that, contrary to reports, fans would not be ejected from Ewood Park for chanting "Kean Out". When reports were circling earlier this week that stewards had been tasked with ejecting anyone instigating crowd chants against the manager, BRFCS contacted Rovers' operations director Paul Agnew for clarification of the situation, but our questions went unanswered. However, after yesterday's exclusive interview with the global advisor, Shebby was asked for clarification to which he responded that there was no intention to eject fans for anti-Kean chants. Whether or not these instructions have been passed on to the stewards is of interest to BRFCS, although it should also be noted that anything that causes annoyance to others attending the match constitutes grounds for ejection under the ground regulations. Saturday's game at Portman Road saw some amazing support from the fans, with very little anti-Kean or anti-Venky's chanting, the fans instead focusing on backing the team. However, the pre-season game against Accrington Stanley saw several fans claiming they were ejected for airing their views on the manager. Co-owner Balaji Rao was present at the Ipswich game and both Balaji and brother Venkatesh were present at tonight's game against Hull City. Despite widespread boycotting of home games until Kean's reign is over, ticket sales for tonight's game were reported by the official Rovers twitter account to be around 11,000 with some 9,000 of those being season ticket holders. The attendance was just over 13,000 for the first home game of the season. View full article
  11. Rovers' Serbian midfielder Radosav Petrovic has officially moved to Turkish side Genclerbirligi. The move was anticipated in yesterday's exclusive BRFCS interview with Shebby Singh, where he wished the player well and said that Rado had made the request as he felt that the speed of the Championship game didn't suit his playing style and would hamper his chances of remaining in the national team. The club has now confirmed that the transfer is complete. Genclerbirligi will be familiar to many fans as the two sides met in the UEFA Cup in 2003. View full article

  15. Sixty-four years ago, upon Blackburn Rovers' relegation from the old Division One to Division Two, an idiosyncratically British tradition was born. Cooper's Hill has its cheese rolling, Llanwrtyd Wells has its bog snorkelling and Bacup has its Nutters Dance. And Bamber Bridge has the burying of the coffin. [caption id=" align="aligncenter" width="494]Image courtesy of Garry Cook. Reproduced with kind permission[/caption] Back in 1948, Blackburn Rovers fans gathered in the cellar of the Trades Hall, Bamber Bridge, there to lay a coffin in a symbolic burial of their dreams, marking the sad passing of their team's time in the then premier league. Thus began a quirky custom that was also adopted by neighbours PNE and last took place a year ago with PNE's coffin laid to rest upon their relegation to Division Two. Some may remember from 2001 that a reversal of the custom takes place with the resurrection of the coffin from the cellar when Blackburn Rovers or PNE are promoted. The 2001 event was covered by photographer and journalist Garry Cook in an article published in Total Football magazine. The article is still available on Garry's website. Over the years, the custom developed into something far less sombre than the funeral element suggests. Gradually, an ever-growing procession of milk floats, carnival style, and mock mourning (a comic priest delivering a few last words) were incorporated into proceedings, usually followed by a convivial gathering in the nearby public houses and fundraising for charity.[caption id=" align="alignright" width="230]Image courtesy of Garry Cook. Reproduced with kind permission[/caption] Over the last few weeks efforts have been made, with Councillor Mick Higgins of Bamber Bridge East Ward, to try to ensure that the tradition would be maintained following the Rovers' heart-breaking relegation this year. Unfortunately and mainly due to police and local licensee disagreement on how the events could take place safely and happily (following public order issues after PNE's burial event last year), the Bamber Bridge burial and procession will not take place this year. However, a number of BRFCS members were unhappy that a generations-old tradition should disappear entirely, particularly in the current climate where so many of our other club traditions seem to be being eliminated. Led by BRFCS forum member EwoodDawn, negotiations with the police and local council in Blackburn have been carried out to ensure that the custom is not consigned to the history books. Therefore, this year the custom will be moved to Ewood, the event taking place on Sunday, 22nd July, gathering at 1:30 p.m. for a 2:30 p.m. start. Our Premiership coffin will be carried in a procession from the Fox and Hounds pub to The Aqueduct pub at Ewood. Obviously this parade will be on a much smaller scale than that seen in Bamber Bridge, since the milk floats cannot be accommodated on busy Bolton Road. Once at The Aqueduct, a humorous speech will be made and then we can all drink to happy memories and hopes (and fears) for the future. There will also be some charity collection tins for those in a generous mood. The hope is that this day will provide a much-needed opportunity for a bit of camaraderie and good old northern humour amongst fellow Rovers fans in these bleak times. In the past, participants have attended in fancy dress: many in old-fashioned mourning attire, some in more amusing get-ups. Prizes for children attending in costume are also planned. The aim is to both uphold a tradition and provide an opportunity for Rovers supporters groups to form a visible symbol of unity: that we still can and will come together for the good of our football club.[caption id=" align="aligncenter" width="440]Image courtesy of Garry Cook. Reproduced with kind permission[/caption] All Rovers fans are more than welcome to join the peculiar fun and the organisers are hoping that representatives from the organisations involved in Sir Bill Taylor's "Blackburn united" idea will be involved as pall-bearers or ceremonial flag carriers behind the coffin. Other fan groups that wish to participate are also cordially invited to contact the organisers. If you are planning on going along to the event, please can you let the organisers know via the forum thread here. View full article

  19. At BRSIT's first Q&A meeting held at Whitehall Country Club in Darwen last Saturday, newly appointed non-executive director and Rovers legend Simon Garner spoke to the invited audience of local business and community leaders, Rovers supporters groups, ordinary fans and the media. A two-hour presentation by BRSIT founder Wayne Wild of club sponsors Darwen-based WEC Ltd outlined the Trust's vision and plans, which Mr Wild also discussed in interview with BRFCS in this week's podcast. As the first ex-Blackburn Rovers player to pledge his support to the Trust's fanshare option initiative, Simon Garner was asked to explain why he had committed himself to the community takeover bid: "I got involved because I am scared of which way the club's going. "I am now a fan of Blackburn Rovers and always have been since I left the club. And I don't want to see it disappear. And I think there's a grave danger of that happening. So, something's got to be done to save the club, I think. "I just want to save the football club and I think Wayne's come up with a good proposal how to do it and try and take it forward. "At the end of the day something needs to be done about it and that's why I've agreed to come on board and I am committed to it, full stop." The Rovers legend's backing of the initiative has given a significant boost to the Trust's profile. Having broken through the £1m mark prior to last Saturday's meeting, Mr Wild announced on the podcast earlier this week that pledges amounted to over £1.1m. Pledges from supporters are continuing to come in and the figure currently stands at £1,257,450. The full video of Simon Garner's speech is available for viewing on the BRSIT website, which also carries details of how to make a pledge and how to get involved with the Trust. View full article

  25. Plans to bring Blackburn Rovers into community ownership were officially launched yesterday on Wednesday, 22 February, with the establishment of the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Investment Trust. The aim of the Trust is to take on the ownership of the Rovers for the long-term benefit of the club and its supporters and community. The Trust is the brainchild of Wayne Wild, director of Darwen-based WEC Limited, a commercial partner and sponsor of Blackburn Rovers since 2008, and finance expert Daniel Grabko. Wild has enlisted the support of prominent fans to help bring the plan to fruition and provide expert support where needed. Local MPs Jack Straw, Jake Berry and Graham Jones have confirmed their backing for the formation of the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Investment Trust as have Kate Hollern, leader of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, and Sir Bill Taylor. Legal representation is being provided by top North West law firm Farleys Solicitors, while detailed discussions with the Trust's preferred accounting partner are at an advanced stage, with the confirmation of appointment imminent. The Trust has established an online presence through the launch of its website at www.brsit.co.uk and social media campaigns on Facebook and Twitter. A number of fan groups have also given their official backing to the Trust including BRFC Action Group and the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Trust. Prominent Rovers fan Wayne Wild accounted for the reasoning behind the initiative: "At some point, and maybe soon, we believe Blackburn Rovers will be put up for sale. We believe the best ownership model for Blackburn Rovers is to be entirely owned by the supporters through a trust. We are seeking to engage with the current owners to advise them of our plans and we ask that they consider our proposals seriously as a credible and respectful way to pass on ownership of the club. At this stage we are asking Blackburn Rovers supporters if they would be willing to buy a share in their club. The more fans who pledge to buy a share, the stronger and more credible our bid will be." The Blackburn Rovers Supporters Investment Trust has set up a working party consisting of individuals with backgrounds in relevant business sectors. These individuals are all Blackburn Rovers supporters who are giving their time and expertise for free. The working party also needs people with specialised skills, particularly in corporate governance, sports finance and related fields, IT and marketing. Once the working party has been finalised, a full list of names and relevant information will be published on the BRSIT website in the interest of clarity and openness. The working party will exist solely to achieve the aim of the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Investment Trust to take on the ownership of the club. Mr Wild outlined his vision of the ownership scheme: "We will raise funds to buy the club by issuing a sufficient number of shares to meet a realistic valuation at the time of purchase. We believe Blackburn Rovers will be best run by as many shareholders as possible having an equal say in the ownership of the club. We are not ruling out any alternative fundraising options and would welcome dialogue with any interested funders, large or small. However, the aim of the Trust is to establish a truly democratic ownership model which can be independently monitored and held to account by the people who really matter — Blackburn Rovers supporters." At this stage, no funds are actually required from prospective shareholders and neither is any offer of financial support in any way legally binding. Mr Wild was keen to stress this point and added: "We are not asking for money now, but if fans are willing to make a pledge, we ask that they follow it through if and when we are ready to proceed. We understand supporters want to know how much investment will be required to purchase the club. It is clear that any fair and realistic valuation will be based on the position of the club within the league structure at the time of purchase together with a true assessment of the club's assets and liabilities. It is not, therefore, possible at this stage to put an exact figure on the amount of capital we will need to raise to be successful. However, as we have said, the more supporters who pledge to buy shares, the stronger our position will be when negotiating the purchase of the club." The working party of the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Investment Trust is looking at a broad range of investment options to make it as affordable as it can so that as many Blackburn Rovers fans as possible can have the chance to invest in the club. Fans who are interested in the Trust's proposals and in making a pledge of financial support should visit the BRSIT website for further information. View full article
