  2. A letter that gives an astonishing insight into the breakdown of communication between new owners Venky's and the Blackburn Rovers board shortly after the change in ownership has been published on the Sporting Intelligence website by Nick Harris of the Mail on Sunday. The letter, dated 4 January 2011, is addressed to Venky's chairperson Mrs Desai and is signed by then chairman John Williams, managing director Tom Finn and finance director Martin Goodman. In a damning indictment of the running of the club by Venky's, the letter also brings into question the role of SEM in transfer dealings and the authority of Steve Kean. The letter is discussed further in the forthcoming BRFCS Podcast #21 and can be viewed in full on the Sporting Intelligence website. Join in the discussion on the forum here. View full article

  5. Rovers veteran defender Michel Salgado will be allowed to leave Ewood when the transfer window opens next month. Under-fire Rovers manager Steve Kean is reported on ITV.com to have said: "Michel won't be here next season. If there is an opportunity for him to find another solution in this window, that is something we would look at. (It is) out of respect for the player to give him the heads-up that this will be his last season." View full article

  8. Sunday's events concerning the death of Wales manager Gary Speed caused great shock in the football world and beyond as people tried to come to terms with the disturbing news. Swansea's home match against Aston Villa, held shortly after his death was made public, was a highly emotional event and Rovers' Carling Cup quarter-final match at Cardiff City tonight is likely to see a similar outpouring of emotion as a tribute to the great man. The atmosphere at tonight's tie is likely to give the Cardiff team a boost and the Rovers can expect to have their work cut out to remain in the competition and progress to the semi-finals. For Rovers, the Carling Cup run has been one of few positives this season and the players will be looking to put their disastrous league form to one side. Cardiff are in great form and are once again pushing for a place in the Premier League. They have gone 8 games undefeated and currently sit in third place. Peter Whittingham is likely to be the danger man if he starts the game, with four goals in five from midfield. On their first visit to the Cardiff City Stadium, Rovers are likely to be without Chris Samba, whilst Martin Olsson and Ryan Nelsen have been ruled out. Michel Salgado and David Dunn are expected to return, whilst there could be starts for David Goodwillie, Radosav Petrovic and Mark Bunn. 9. With uncertainty over whether captain Chris Samba will be fit enough to make the crucial game at Wigan today and Jason Lowe missing the game due to a one-match suspension, the return to full fitness of Scott Dann and Michel Salgado is timely. Both are in contention for a place in the starting eleven. View full article

  17. Rovers have confirmed today that John Jensen has left the club after nine months as assistant manager. Sources close to Rovers have indicated that Jensen has carried the can for Rovers' poor start to the season. In an official statement Rovers thanked John for the hard work that he had put in since joining the club in January. Manager Steve Kean remains under pressure with Rovers just one point off the bottom of the Premiership and big-spending Manchester City due at Ewood Park on Saturday. The removal of Jensen is unlikely to appease fans if Rovers lose to Manchester City. A poll conducted by BRFCS currently shows that 94.7% of the 491 respondents want Steve Kean sacked. 24. [caption id=attachment_2521" align="alignright" width="195" caption="Image courtesy of Ian Singleton][/caption]Saturday's Rovers Reserves' game at Kendal gave Rovers fans their first glimpse of what most people assume is the new home shirt. Although still sponsorless, the shirts are not of a previously used design, so are assumed to be the official 2011/2012 design. The shirts have already divided opinion because whilst they are still blue and white halves, the colours on the back have been reversed, so the colour on the front wraps around onto the rear as can be seen in the close-up photo here. Although Rovers have had the colours reversed on the rear before, it is believed that it has not been done since the 1960s. Despite the reversed colours on the rear of the shirt, overall response to the design is very positive. However, Rovers fans eager to get their hands on a replica shirt will probably have to wait a little longer as it is unlikely the shirt would go on sale without a sponsor. To date, no sponsor has been confirmed for the 2011/2012 season. * BRFCS wish to thank the Lancashire Telegraph's Ian Singleton for the accompanying image, which was taken during the LT's coverage of the Rovers Reserves' game at Kendal Town. Andy Cryer's match report can be found here. View full article
  25. Long-serving Blackburn Rovers club doctor Dr. Phil Batty has left the club after over a decade of service. It is believed the former Manchester United deputy doctor, who joined Rovers in 1999, is to reunite with former Rovers chairman John Williams at Manchester City. In 2003 The Guardian's football gossip column "The Fiver" reported that Dr. Batty, incensed at the sending off of Steven Reid against Bolton, "took a leaf out of fellow practitioner Dr David Banner's book when he 'ripped a dressing room door clean off its hinges'". Later, however, it was reported that John Williams had contacted the paper to inform them that Dr Batty had simply forced a locked door open with the knowledge of a steward. In January 2005 Phil opened the successful Physio4U consultancy at Beardwood Hospital, which is now run by Diane Fevre, wife of club physio Dave Fevre. Academy doctor Chris Mowbray also left the club earlier this month after 12 years' long service and fitness coach Adrian Lamb has joined Aston Villa, leaving the club not just in the hunt for new talent on the pitch, but off it, too. BRFCS would like to thank Phil, Chris and Adrian for their contributions to the club and wish them all the best in their future endeavours. View full article
