  1. Fair do's tcj!  :) Always like someone who can argue their case whether you agree with it or not.

Personally I would summarise all that as a particularly bad decision at Boardroom level to sell Duff. No-one signed on the left side to replace him. A poor choice being made to replace Berg with Amoruso. Dunn's replacement (Emerton) being very disappointing. The players bought with part of the Duff money (Reid and Ferguson) starting to look reasonably promising after a very slow start but then getting injured.

Agree completely that various players haven't performed as you would expect at different times. Gresko, Neill and Taylor being other obvious cases in point in addition to the players we've already mentioned.

I like Dunn, but I'd MUCH rather have Emerton. He's been doing quite well this season, creating more chances than anyone else. The problem is that he's being asked to carry too much of the creative role from midfield (or all of the creative role). Would be nice to see them put someone more creative to complement him than Flitcroft, Douglas and Tugay (though Tugay creates chances, just not for us).

  2. First, for all the Stevie Ray Vaughn fans, how about Robert Cray? Definitely one of my alltime favorites. Heck of a Blues guitarist and song writer.

Second, my friend and I were talking about great bands/artists that have lasted a long time and had a ton of hits. The topic came up when I made a mix of Michael Jackson songs and was able to get 80 minutes worth of songs (mostly hits), despite never having owned one of his albums.

We were thinking, how many artists could you do that with? Came up with a parital list: Stones, Beatles, Billy Joel, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Beach Boys, Elton John, maybe Queen, maybe Van Halen.

I'm sure there are a ton I've missed, anyone?

  3. I agree with you to an extent 1864 about this Souness debacle, and why there seems to be no movement by Rovers to improve the position in the league.  I also have a feeling like the board are preparing for something come the summer, but what that is, i have no idea.  I dont think its them preparing for the drop as of yet, becuase if you remember in our first season back, our prospects were a lot grimmer, and the board were more than willing to stump up sufficient cash for our survival.  That either means they are expecting a new arrival in the summer, whom would replace a perhaps retiring Souness, or a restructure of the team, by offloading players like Yorke, Tugay, and players of a similar ilk who are either becoming too old, too lazy or both.  I have no idea which of the two is a stronger possibility, but my head seems to think both actually, with Souness announcing his retirement towards the end of the season, and a new manager revamping a new style of Rovers.

Why do i think that??? Well, i honestly think the Souness Express is starting to run out of steam, and somethings needs freshening up.

I've always felt (hoped?) they'd be revamping the strike force in the summer, getting rid of Cole and Yorke and bringing in 3 new, younger strikers. That's why I'm not sure they really tried their hardest to get McBride.

  4. Tell you what Jim, why don't you do your job for 30 percent less?

I don't think journalists get paid 40k per week to come in and train how to write stories twice a week and actually write an actual story on a Saturday.

Footballers salaries are obscene and are proportionate to the Nation's never-ceasing hunger for wall-to-wall televised football, it has nothing to do with a fair day's work for a fair day's pay.

They seem to be so far removed from reality that they'd rather their employer went to the wall than they take a (gasp!) 30% paycut. How thick can they be?

And if everyone could do what footballers are able to do, at the same skill level, they wouldn't make so much. Add in the fact that journalists have a lot longer window in which they can make a living, plus less risk involved in sustaining an injury which makes them unable to work. Supply and demand is why they make so much.

They didn't stick a gun to the club's figurative head and force them to pay them that much. They weren't the ones to financially mismanage the club. Yes their high salaries are why the company isn't doing well, but they would have been able to make those salaries at other clubs when they were on the market. They had a market value and Leeds was dumb enough to pay too many of them that market value. Now the club is suffering. Why ask them to take a pay cut when they know that they will be able to go to another club and make the same, if not more?

  5. The greed of footballers knows no bounds.

The Leeds players tonight told the board that they would rather the club sold one of the players rather than them all having to take a 30 per cent pay cut.

Dont want to be a I told you so, but look what time this was posted.

.....and the latest from Leeds........players arent prepared to accept a 30% deferred wages cut to save the club the required £5million.

Players to accept wage cut - click me

Though the crux of the article gives no details about what the players are willing to do, just that they are willing to help out, the headline says they WILL accept the pay deferral.

  7. Worrying situation for the Leeds fans, to have your club turned like that in the space of a few years is bad.

Of the players, my first choice would be to have Alan Smith, would love to see him in a Rovers shirt. Milner looks a good player, there was talk in the Express that United are interested in him. Viduka, he`ll probably leave during the summer, can`t see him leaving at the moment as he`s in Australia with his father who is very ill.

The defender who scored yes, but I`d guess Leeds will hold on to their youngsters if they can.

    :brfc:

I wouldn't think Milner is on huge wages, so they might not have to get rid of him...

  8. this time i had enough. He must go

the money is gone, so now we need a manager who can make people better and can buy cheap.

my suggestions: Bert van Maarwijk from Feyenoord..

excellent coach, knows where to buy bargains, knows the foreign market,

and he has won something: he won the UEFA trophy!!!!!!!

i really think souness has lost it!!!!! :brfc:

Oh yeah since this guy with the unpronouncable name has won the ever so fantastic UEFA cup he is a truly more suited manager in the english premiership than GS!!!!!

I do not wanna be rude, but I have to ask; Do you know anything about football history?

Do you have the slightest idea of what Souness has won, both as player and manager?

He is probably one of the most trophy winning guys ever to work at Rovers, and you wanna get rid of him because you know about a guy who actually won the uefa cup!! once!

If your logic about him being the right choice because he won a trophy is right, well there can't be anyone better suited for the job than GS can it??

I'm sure even GS himself has lost count of his trophies

why don't you suggest that we resign David May to solve our defensive problems? He won the PL you know......

at least he's putting out a suggestion for a replacement, unlike most...

  9. Mr. 6,

Just curious, how do you know we will go into administration if relegated? One would think the repayment of the overdraft from the Duff sale would help us avoid that. Do you have information that the rest of us lack about the club's finances?

That being said, I'd be willing to bet you that we don't get relegated...

  10. First of all, Mr 6, you seem upset by the FA cup result. How did Sturrock do in this same tourney this year?

As for Shearer, rumor has it he is going to retire and become Robson's assistant and take over when Bobby retires.

  11. Has anyone heard, or listen to Jeff Buckley these days. He was the son of Tom Buckley, famous 60's song writer, made two albums late 80's early 90's, one of them a live album. IN my opinion his album 'Grace' is one of the best albums ever made. He died at 27 drowning in a river on the way down to make his 2nd studio album. Shame no-one seems to have heard about him apart from me.....prove me wrong please

He's got a pretty big cult following here in the states (and not just one of the cults, a great many of the cults follow him). Might be able to find some good websites on him.

  12. I wasn't questioning that bit, I know the higher you finish the more money you get (£500k per place I think), but that's prize money and different from the TV money.  The TV money is shared out at the start of the season.

When ITV Digital went bust, each Division One club lost the same amount.

The ITV Digital deal losses are the same as they were the average the clubs were likely to receive from the package.

Premiership clubs receive TV money as follows:

    1. Equal share at the start of the season (or is it the end?)

    2. Additional money for each time they are on Sky

    3. Additional money, but considerably less, for each time they are on PPV

    4. Additional money for each time they are a 'featured' match on The Premiership

    5. Various little odds and sods

On top of this, they have the potential to earn (in priority) a healthy pay packet if they are screened live in the FA Cup, a lesser amount for being a featured match on Match of the Day FA Cup programme, a live match in the Carling Cup and then other straggly bits.

Hate to link a different fan site, but I knew I had seen this info before:

    Premiership earnings - Click Here

  13. yeah or then it could end fantastically, thats the wonder of the football, good to see that the teams not doing its best again and your back on the board spouting your usual crap.

The season could end fantastically. Yes, absolutely right, maybe we will finish 4th from bottom. Graeme Souness will deserve manager of the season for such an achievement.

So Flops, you're happy with 5th from bottom, one point from the bottom three? You're happy with staring relegation and ruin in the face? You're fine with administration when we go down?

Stop being so proud and blinkered in equal measure. Admit that Souness isn't doing a good job at the moment. I understand if you want him to stay in the job.

But still have the balls to point out that he isn't earning his wage at this current moment.

Souness might not be currently earning his wage, but neither are some of the players. After all he's done, he at least deserves the rest of the season to either right the ship or let it sink. Yes, we are one win away from relegation, but also one win away from mid-table (11th). Things were looking pretty bad as far as the quality of play, etc. etc. last season at a point, but turned out pretty darn good. It's funny how this thread goes quiet when a couple good results are put together, then heats back up when a bad spell happens.

Face it, we want great things game after game, but bad spells will happen, especially when dealing with a club like Rovers, who won't always be able to go out and get the top players in the world when they lose a Duff (that being said, the money people say we should have left over from the Duff sale is what will make administration not even a consideration IF the unthinkable happens).

There was a lot of reloading this past summer, and reshuffling of the lineup throughout the season. Time has to be allowed to find the right formula to make this a team of the future, not just a team that panics everytime things aren't going great. Consistency will make sure that we don't go down and end up a force in the future, not panic. Part of that consistency is keeping the management team, especially a manager as good as Souness.

  14. Does anyone know how loaded this Arab Leeds fan is? Is £60 million a lot for him? If not Leeds could be out of the mess pretty soon.

As for not being a good investment, other(!) than the £60 million debt, Leeds is a good investment. Good ground, fan base, youth structure, some good players etc.

It all depends really how much this guy would be willing to shell out £60 million for nothing.

I've read that he doesn't have the cash himself, but that he has the friends to raise the cash. Not a Chelski situation.

  15. been listening to the jimi hendrix singles collection, now that guy really was god.

by the way, does anyone know which, if any, hendrix record 'machine gun' appears on?

It's on the Band of Gypsies album. Axis Bold as Love is my favourite  hendrix album, espeically the title track itself - brilliant!  :tu:

    totally agree, brilliant album.

  16. Ah, come on Matt, even a hardened Scum-hater like yourself much realise that Houllier is worse, god I hate him at least RFW has a decent record to back up his preposterous drivel, Houllier always has that sly furtive look on his face too, not to mention the fact that he's f***ing French  :<img src=:'>

Yeah, but it's great to see him dragging Liverpool down further and further. I hope they never get rid of him.

  17. Even more scary though was the recent rumour of Bruce Springsteen fronting the band for Joe Strummer r.i.p. in a reunion tour!!  Somehow can't imagine Brucey doing 'Im so bored with the USA.'

He did a version of London Calling, along with a couple others I think at the Grammys. Not to condone illegal file sharing, but I've seen the file shared illegally (and its pretty good).
