  1. IMO, there's no way in hell that Dickov would knock Cole down the pecking order, even though he's not best friends with Souness.

Souey was very pleased with the way Stead and Cole worked out last year, and he's always said that Dickov will be a fine supplement to the team as a whole. I think that the LET wrote this to get another reason why Cole should be unhappy, not just the fights from last season.

But why is Cole on board to Germany, if he's to be sold?

However, his wage will be a relieve, and the mentioned £1m loyalty bonus would also make way for a replacement - but I can't say I'm to happy about this deal either way. AND, I can't see why Cole would want to cut his wages to go elsewhere, when he also has got to say bye-bye to that million. So the way I see it, Rovers will have to lower their transfer amount, OR pay some of his wages. Either way, I'd be hugely disappointed.

If Cole goes, we'll need a new striker !

Chris Sutton anyone? Recently linked with Norwich..

Sutton, Stead, Gally, Jansen and (perhaps) Yorke - not to bad !

  2. At least we'll get money for him, and we'll certainly not pay half his wages AND send him away on a free - that's the most important thing for me right now. If we can get a million quid and someone to pay all of his wages, I'm not so sure it will be such a lousy deal.. even though both De Pedro and obviously Steady seems impressed with him!

Don't get me wrong, I want him to stay aswell, but after having nightmares about Cole leaving for free and only half of his wages removed - things can only pick up...

  3. First of all: 60k wages ??

That is just BS, didn't Duffer sign his new contract on a 35k wage? (before he got 70k when he signed for Chelsea?)

Secondly, has anyone of you locals read the LET today? Any news? If this story is BS, today's LET would write about it right?

  4. I think he played out on the right, rover6?

I agree though, I'd also like to see him play there - if it doesn't work out then fair enough, at least we know !

It would IMO mean that Ferguson has got to be the holding, defensive midfielder though, which could handicap his offensive play. But if Thommo can get back to where he was after signing from Coventry, he can be a great asset in central midfield aswell.

  5. This is the wildest rumour I've seen all summer, this would be just horrible!

I would rather keep Cole than sell him for two million pounds, and certainly not give him away. AND CERTAINLY NOT PAY HALF HIS WAGES just to attract some club to sign him for free !!

I'm sorry Souey, I support almost your every move, but if this is true..!! mad.gif

  6. No info on wether we're in the market for another player as of yet. If we are, I'd prefer us buying a younger CD - we're quite nicely equipped in the other positions IMO. No more strikers, that's for sure, perhaps that McGoldrick fella if he's any good. Performance-based payment plan seems good if you ask me... I think that £4,000,000 transfer budget was a load of ###### btw.. Let's save money for January, and first and foremost for next summer!

  7. And there's me thinking we had to sell him?

Errr, no?? We had to let him speak to other clubs but why were we compelled to sell him?

You are missing the point as usual. Gerrard showed loyalty to his club, Duff took the money and ran. End of story.

Really, Jim, would you turn down a job offer with double wage and top facilities?

  8. your being sarcastic?surley?

Theres been no loyalty in football since as far back as i can rememeber and i was born in 1967.......

I think the loyalty should be nomoinated for the annual Grooby award...cheeers matey Ive had my first smile on my face since Thursday. thumbs-up.gif

Allright, I see your point.. thumbs-up.gif

My point was, how are Chelsea supposed to get a good team spirit in their team if they keep offering players in every direction?

However, I'd say swapping Gerrard for 20 million pounds plus Duffer and Parker would be a fairly good deal, even though Duffer is injured a lot and Gerrard is top-class.

  9. Just read ANOTHER rumour about Chelsea being interested in sending away Scott Parker and Damien Duff - both signed for high fees last season - to get Steven Gerrard to Stamford Bridge.

This guy pays big money for a bunch of players, gets his team to a 2nd place in the league, sacks the manager and tries to swap every new face he's got to get new players.

Where is the loyalty, where is the humanity ?

I wasn't all that negative to Abrahamovic in the beginning, but I'm starting to lose it here.. This isn't ChampMan, Mr. Abrahamovic !

    Anyone got thoughts about this?

Mods; merge away if this isn't suitable for a topic of it's own, just wasn't sure where to put this...

  10. Don't really see the connection there, Eddie, even if he's a United-supporter doesn't mean he wouldn't give 100 percent for Rovers. Heck, most people are manure-fans or liverpool-fans these days anyway..

I hope he stays in Tromsø till after the season, and that we sign him next season or in January if we can get the cash then! smile.gif

  11. Wish someone would agree with me! In the end it looks like I've created a thread where people are starting to support Rover6! Dear God...

I do agree with some parts of your posts. Congrats! wink.gif

I also think it's a shame that Italy didn't go through to the next round, because I think they're a side that entertains with good individual players and offensive play. (the catanaccio days are over, even though they played defensively in the 60's, they actually DO attack more than most countries now)

They have a great defence, particularly the three to the left, Panucci is quite average. Probably the best defence in Europe, I do think that this is some of the reason why people think they still play defensively. They DO attack, it's just that Cannavaro and Nesta is so good they rarely concede goals.. wink.gif

But, as you say, since they didn't make it to the next round, they're not good enough. Simple as that.
