Jack Southworth - statistically Rovers most prolific goalscorer.

The most successful town football club in British history no less...
Sunderland was a town up to recently when they won 6 League titles, along with 2 FA Cups. Plus Blackburn is a city in all but name. There's only two real cities in what was Lancashire - Liverpool and Manchester. Lancaster is a small town, Preston a big town and Salford is a suburb.

Stoke will be calling him up about now i reckon. (Doubt he'd go there but still)
Stoke have appointed a bloke named after a Supremes song (not Love Child).

They had a feature on Duane Eddy in the Lancs Telegraph this week. I will always remember him from the journey to Cardiff, when we beat Spurs in the League Cup. From the Severn Bridge to Cardiff, the coach driver must have played one track after another.
The most irritating aspect of this journey was Duane Eddy. I used to like his records, despite their age. But when they were played over and over again I began to hate the guitar man. All I remember from this coach journey was “Dang De De Dang De De Dang De De De De De De. Dance to the Guitar Man. Can you hear me?” Yes I bloody well could! I just wish he’d broken his strings.
Thank goodness we won the cup!

I'm thinking about buying this shirt but it has the gold writing underneath it, "PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS". Was this shirt worn the season after we won the league?? Is it a real shirt?
Are you not the seller?

Might as well slip this one in.

Souness would have sorted him out.

'Thieves Like Us' seems very appropriate in some quarters.

The Leamington Street ground (near Sacred Heart RC Primary - my old primary school) must have had a hell of a slope!!
When England played Scotland there in 1887, they called it the 'incline'. 12,000 turned up for that match.

This is supposed to be an attempt at satire, poking fun at Love Island.

Behind Dukes Brow, to the left of the Meadows, is an old hidden street actually called Gawthorpe. All this area was taken up by quarrying and the quarries had their own names, i.e. Wagtail, where the Leamington Street ground was located.
Gawthorpe was probably named after the nearby quarry. But there were a lot of handloom weaver's cottages in this area too. These were often in little colonies, having their own names.

One for the anoraks. Rovers' two former grounds - shown on the Map above (sited at Wagtail and Grammar as reference points), both hosted England full International matches. Could they be the nearest two grounds to each other to have hosted England matches? Leamington Street and Alexandra Meadows are barely 100 yards apart.

the site seems to have sprung back into life.
Rovers history page has some interesting bits
The significance of Rovers' first match might have been lost in translation. The webmaster thinks we played a church team, without realising it was the old Church F.C. from down the road.
I must admit for many years I thought the West End cricket ground, where Church and Oswaldtwistle C.C. now play, was where Rovers played their first ever game.
But it turns out it wasn't the original home of Church C.C. This was on the recreation ground owned by Captain Pickup (no relation) of the local militia, at the point where Church, Ossie and Accy all merged.
The webmaster's other historical stuff is quite amusing to read.
