I wasn't aware that a number of starting XI regulars weren't far off a suspension. I don't think anybody who watched today could deny that Walton and Nyambe were probably our weakest players on the pitch. The former was at fault for our goal-against, and the latter was at fault for a number of defensive mistakes: getting beat in the air by McClean on numerous occasions, giving the ball away, getting caught out of position at the wrong times, etc. Maybe keeping Bennett sidelined in the last couple of matches hasn't got anything to do with Mowbray believing that Nyambe deserves his chance, but in protection of Bennett. Not meaning to dampen the win, today, but I think Bennett is still firmly in the first-team plans, because I have a suspicion that he's been "protected" over the last coupe of matches. Mowbray did say that was "pleased" for Nyambe after the Brentford match, which seems like a sympathetic tone to me, rather than a true appraisal for how well he played. But it's true that Nyambe was fairly crap today.

Yeah, our priorities in January should be a new keeper, a new right-back and a new left-back.

I think being unbalanced has been a big issue for a long time. Laughable reading his comments about how he likes his wide players to do their bit defensively in the telegraph today - Armstrong offers nothing defensively. Tough job being a full back in this side.

I've ranted about Bennett in the past but I think now it was a bit unfair. Mowbray really has a problem with wingers and that can negatively effect the full-backs.

                              Dack

                             Graham

    I’d go with that.

I predict Mowbray will go with:

                            Walton

                    Tosin Lenihan  Williams Cunningham

    Bennett       Travis    Downing

                                Dack

                     Gallagher                       Armstrong

No discernible shape or style, and plenty of chopping and changing after about 12 minutes

It really annoys me when Mowbray plays a wing-back on one side and then a full-back and winger on the other. Downing goes missing when the team plays like this, Bennett's crosses still aren't good enough to justify him being the lone wide-man on the right and the team naturally becomes unbalanced.

Jake Cooper you say......... ON EVERY SINGLE POST!!!! ;)

In all seriousness though, have we actually been linked to him? Genuine question as it’s not a name I’m overly familiar with. We really don’t seem to have been linked to many CBs at all which is a bit of a concern as I think we all know we need at least one.

I have haven't seen us linked to him

I realize I'm in the minority but I think Bennett is a decent right back. Not great, but can run all day, tackle and can put in a cross. Nyambe is a fine athlete who is good one on one defensively, but can't put in a cross to save his life. Still based on last season, our left was the major pain point. Williams had a horrible spell when everyone who just run past him on the outside and we conceded a lot from that side. Bell was a little better, but looks like he has an off switch sometimes where his mind is somewhere else.

Still I think the whole board agrees that we are weakest central. Mulgrew is not a great defender, he backs off almost into his keeper every time and struggles with pace every time. If Lenihan is injured we are so thin and Mowbray himself said so this week. I'm a firm Mowbray supporter, but dissapointed that he has tracked back from the clear statement that defenders are coming. Still time to get a couple in, but I'm very confident that we will see Bennett, Lenihan, Mulgrew and Bell as the back four vs Charlton.

He certaintly can't put in a cross, he just loops it over the box and out for a goal kick. He isn't good enough for me anywhere never mind right-back.

As for the other comments, I personally think Bell is worse than Williams but both aren't up to scratch and yes Mulgrew is past being 'past it' at this point.

Bell was in the League 1 team of the season the year we signed him. Obviously you are not a Bell fan but don’t blindly claim he was poor when he obviously wasn’t

He was poor, I have no idea how he ended up in the team of the year, probably from his Fleetwood appearances.  Even if he was good in League 1 he is nothing short of shite in this division which is what matters now.
