Just read that Norwich paid 3 million to get Rhodes on loan for the season. What crazy times.
Would they not have been better off signing their own players? I don't know if they have to pay wages on top of the 3 million fee, I would assume that they do
You sign him for 10 million on a four year contract that amortinises at 2.5 million a year on his transfer fee alone. Wages signing on fee and a small loan fee for a 3million package is blinding business

Why? Just because they've valued him irrationally high? I wonder if a League One CH has ever moved for 2 million, let alone with 12 months left on their deal.
Indications around the time our interest was first reported suggested to me that Charlton hugely upped their price suddenly. Just the impression I got reading between the lines.
They purchased the guy in the Championship for a million plus? Let’s not deride another team. It was thoroughly insulting. 300k offer and no wonder they’ve now taken the perverbial Stance of 2 million!

You got the helter skelter bit right...
Patrick Bauer 300k bid is exceptionally disrespectful, if I was Charlton I’d be livid.

Was our new sponsor on our shirts yesterday?

This Harrison rumour sounds like BS
Unless he’s the pacy winger in lieu of Chapman.

He did say words to that effect, time to fully expect Conway to be a regular starter as a defensive winger type imo.
Then we will be going down

One player and his bonus who was out on loan last year. Ben Amos. Sounds like Wheater will be available soon as he seems to be the ring leader.

Maybe Whittingham could Do a job at left back?
Yeah left back on the bench and right back at home

On Twitter, a Birmingham fan is saying he cost them >£40k pw last season in wages & loan fees...?
2.5 million loan fee brokered by Darren Dein yes David’s son and family friend and ex SEM colleague of Jerome of Barnet

True. My point is that it's vanishingly unlikely that he'll be at the level where City will want him back. If he is, then we'll likely as not be back in the top division off the back of it.
Or they buy back then only to sell at a higher cost. See Madrid and Morata for example

Obviously Nixon has to be taken with a pinch of salt, but when I asked him about chapman he said he might not come due to the fact that Mowbray wouldn’t see him as first choice. Which implies that either Mowbray thinks Conway is better or that he is after a higher calibre winger than Chapman, and Maddison may fit the bill from that?
Be wary Maddison like Adelukan has questions over his attitude and billy big balls persona.

Why?
Don’t think he’s a centre back if I’m being honest. His positioning is poor, he gets caught under the ball watching it too much.
Distrabution is good so it’d be nice to see him play further up.
-
You’d think they’d scrap the membership and flood the place on match day and offer beambacks in there.

What's the thinking regarding him playing in the Smallwood role if we do get a new centre half in ?
I would, don’t think he’s great at centre half if I’m honest. Prefer Downing there

Chapman wouldn't start and Bauer probably wouldn't either unless we go 3 at the back. How would they massively improve us?
I’d rate Bauer at CB well before Lenihan.
Chapman or Conway.... tough choice

Spoke with a mate who works in the media there, Bauer and Chapman are Mowbrays two main targets at the moment that he knows of. Apparently bids are in for both.
Both would improve us massively

Jason Roberts had a poor first touch but he held the ball up fantastically well for Benni Mc to play off him. That was all down to him being as strong as an ox and holding off the defender.
He was also and expert poor finisher ?
He’s the ideal player we need. Loved Roberts personally, remember him battering Vidic at home and Terry in the semi

Just had the pleasure of speaking to a Scunny season ticket holder on Holmes and Adelukan.
Holmes he rates really high, work ethic and attitude spot on and reckons he will easily play championship football. Okay centrally but slightly better out wide.
Adelukun he says stay away from apparently got caught drink driving and lives in Doncaster so the club pay for a taxi to training and back. He fell out with Alexander as his mate took him in one day and decided to donught spin his car in the training ground.
Says 97 percent of the time he’s non existent, head drops allot and he’s petulant. Reckons he’s a highlight player based on the fact he can score 1 in 6 games. Awful attitude.

Thought the entire post was reasonable. We looked a pretty ordinary side carried by Dack most of the rime imo, even at L1 level.
Agreed we really lacked a spark without Dack so much so when injured twice he was still an option from the bench or started with a niggle expecting 60 mins from him.

Yeah I started off saying the 'we are better than the squad we got relegated with' claptrap too, but now I'm starting to get more worried, and the statement carries less and less weight.
The team your comparing it too, was two years ago to the day, and money has been pissing into the division since then, the division has gotten stronger. It's not a fair comparison.
As pleasing as last season was, our performances most of the time were quite poor, but for a solid back line and Raya, and touches of quality we were poor for most of the season. After what happened last time in the championship, along with people like Conway getting retained, I am fearful that we are not going to be good enough.
Spot on especially the money paragraph look at the signings cost 2 years ago to now. Crickey Forest have just spent 13m on one player. 2 years ago they purchased assambalonga for 5.

Nothing long term about Cardiff's business. Warnock arrived mid-season in a relegation scrap, kept them up and then swiftly assembled a squad that got them automatic promotion. No talk from Warnock about long term building jobs - he wanted promotion at the first attempt and knew how to get it.
I know it doesn't purely come down to wages and transfer fees. The point i was trying to make was that last season it was much easier to put together a good side on a relative shoestring due to a lack of competition and the fact that a million quid goes a long way in League One. In the Championship you have to be prepared to pay more, if not you will likely struggle.
Cardiff had a far better squad, Mangala (5m), Zahore rated at 8-10 million. Morrison, Gunnarsson, Bennett, Pilkington, Hoilett he has got firing since stepping in at Cardiff.
Completley agree with your post though by and large our squad is complete fodder at this level and needs urgent investment, Rotherham and Bolton, maybe Wigan, Ipswich and Millwall might finish below us, after that I'm struggling
Thursday deadline.
