  1. I wish some fans would forget about the fee and look at him as a 20 year old prospect that has talent but is learning the game and perhaps feeling the pressure and lacking confidence.

How good was our other players at 20? I get it, I go to games and I see he’s not the standard we want yet....but give him time.

Also anyone thinking Mowbray got him in to bag 20 a season needs a reality check. He was purchased with the hope we can sell him for profit, like it or not that’s where we are at.

  2. Just got back from the game, great result and performance from everyone.

I can’t fault anyone, but special mentions to Bell, Johnson and Nyambe. I thought Walton was also superb when called upon.

I feel bad for Brereton, I really want him to be a success but he seems so short on confidence. He was in at one point and just needed to swing a left foot at it but seemed reluctant and ended up stalling and losing it. Just needs to play with out fear. Played a cracking pass to Johnson who then had his shot saved.

Read that Tosin was great going forwards and he scored.  What's the odds on Mowbary dropping him a la Travis, Holtby.  His hand is a bit forced so perhaps he wont but ToMo don't much care for that adventurous goal scoring and moving forwards stuff.  Sideways and back is the only way.

I get this isn’t a serious post, but TM has set our team up with attacking players many times, he can’t help them passing backwards/sideways. We lack pace.

  4. Sorry can I just say regarding Armstrong. Our current squad we have I firmly believe we need him. I know defensively he’s weak and he doesn’t produce the killer ball enough. But his pace is an outlet. When teams play us, I guarantee they fear his pace. Granted he hasn’t been at his best, but he caused a problem “tactically” for our opposition. Our attack is slow as it is without taking out that threat, I think that would be a managers dream against us.

Also I’m going to enjoy Tosin whilst he’s here, behind maybe Holtby and Downing he’s probably our best passer of the ball, vision is second to none, his nutmeg pass to Dack deserved a goal.

Right on. Like Graham, supporting Rovers all these years it’s easy to spot the guys that can play top level.

I normally like to go into it more, but tonight I don’t give a **** I’m just glad we won a game of football, especially at home, coming from behind, against a decent team.

I’d normally hope we build on this, we probably won’t, but again,**** it we won

  6. That was a struggle to watch.

We have a better squad then last year, though I’d still prefer Raya, yet we just aren’t playing a system that looks remotely like working.

We have lost 30 odd goals not playing Graham and shipping out Mulgrew and it shows. I agree Mulgrew couldn’t start anymore, but we need goals from somewhere else. Gallagher just doesn’t have that ability to get in good positions.

  7. This will be a tough game. I imagine similar to Charlton, where we have all the ball but can we break them down? We are better defensively now, so hopefully won’t get done on the break. Sort of game I’d want us to win by 2/3 goals to show we are serious about challenging for play offs.

Early goal to get Luton to come at us a bit and we should pick them off!

Agree with a lot of your comments. I too follow German football and can't remember being blown away by Holtby much the last few seasons.

Not totally against it but it just seems odd timing and he won't be match fit either. When he is it gives the tinker man another option too when he really could do with settling on his first choice 11 by now.

Tinker man is harsh. He stuck with a side go get us promoted, and is rightfully changing our style go get us to next step. It can’t happen over night. Signs are there that we will be a good side this year.

Hang on.. Are you saying Mowbray has a plan? We've only used Buckley once haven't we? And you're suggesting 5-3-2?

Yes, with all the CB fit. We know Tosin has to play games, Williams and Lenihan won’t be dropped. That’s Bennett and Cunningham Wing backs, Holtby BJ Travis, Dack behind Gallagher. That’s my thinking anyway.

  10. 3 different Spurs mates I’ve asked about him all reacted very positively. Energetic player, gives his all. I know he played along time ago, and only 1 season, but was a better reaction then I expected.

I assume this was the plan all along, and when we didn’t get Reid he had to change it, and use Buckley more then expected. Holtby I assume means we stay with the shape of 3 at back with Travis Johnson and Holtby in the middle.

I'll never be Bennett's biggest fan as a right back but I agree people look to fault the guy. If Travis was playing there and did the same things he'd get nowhere near the same abuse because he's come through

We always have a fall guy, this time last year it was Williams now hes universally loved.

For me he edges it over Nyambe, but because Nymabe is young some fans will want him. Either way no doubt we will have 5 months of people demanding a new right back in January. I’m not against that, but he’s our skipper and he’s here to stay for now so hopefully people get behind him.

  12. I’m a big fan of Armstrong starting. That pace is something opposition have to worry about. Having Dack & Downing to do the fancy build up play, but also having that outlet of Armstrong is key for us.

I like Rothwell obviously, but Fulham for example he was non existent where as Armstrong was our main threat.

I am just glad we finally have options to pick from, nice problem to have.

  13. Still can’t believe people want Mowbray out. We deserved more first 2 games, and now got a great 6 points with 2 clean sheets.

He was criticised for his transfers, yet Downing is a great addition, Cunningham looks good, Johnson is a vast improvement on Evans and Smallwood, and he’s got a good centre back pairing in Williams and Lenihan.

Do people really want us to sack him now? That’s just crazy. Is he perfect? Not at all. Has he built a good team? Yes.

This is Mowbrays season to see where he can take us and on the 4 games so far I am giving him the backing he deserves.

  14. I find that wanting Mowbray out is ridiculous. He got us out League 1 (look at Sunderland) and we had a good run last season until we fell away.

More importantly, he has settled Venkys. Don’t underestimate this.

Those saying sign Austin over Gallagher don’t understand our model. We spend 5million on assumption we will make money on him one day, we won’t be spending that on the likes of Austin.

Better the devil you know on this one.

I've seen the 'we played some good stuff' line from a lot of people.

The idea of football is to pepper shots/headers/anything at the goal (the thing in white at either end of the pitch) and hope it goes in.

We haven't done that in 2 games.

    It's not good enough.

    Bye bye mediocre man.

The shots on target thing doesn’t worry me. We created good chances first half, cut backs that another day fall for us, Gallagher header over bar, Johnson shot blocked.

The football isn’t that bad, we dominated a superior team on paper, time will tell but I’m not panicking yet.

Hes shit. Gets far too much credit on here, loses the ball constantly and in dangerous positions. The first 11 looks dire.

He played well last week. Was a presence, his header led to our goal, and played a beauty of a ball to Gallagher in a good position who miss controlled it. I saw a Derby fan say he’s hot and cold, and I could see that from today. But compared to Smallwood and Evans he’s an improvement.

  17. My thoughts on the game today....

Keeper doesn’t look commanding considering his size. He’s not a player either, can’t see us passing it out with him.

Williams and Tosin look an improvement on what we had.

Bennett was better then last week, when he did 4 tackles in a row, including a vital one, that’s the commitment you want to see.

Bell was awful first half, not sure if wind was issue, but he couldn’t get ball under control at all.

Travis and Johnson ran out steam second half against 3 in the middle. I thought Johnson was class last week, couldn’t get a grip of it today.

Armstrong our best threat first half, second half ran it out of play about 3 times.

Dack much better this week. Moving him deeper made no sense.

    Rothwell I barely noticed.

Gallagher, works hard, which helped shut down those new goal kicks, but Christ he can’t hold it up. Lots of flicks on to no one. When Graham came on he held his body, Shielded the ball then laid it off, reminded me of what a target man should be.

I feel both games so far we haven’t deserved to lose, so I’m encouraged by that, but concerned about where our goals come from. If Graham doesn’t start, and with Mulgrew gone that’s 20 odd goals we lost.

Long way too go, I think top half is still on from what I’ve seen from us, Fulham and Charlton.
