    Miserable sod!

How about a bit of positivity?

Let me rephrase what I was trying to get across.

HMS Piss The League Rovers are on the way up. Leonard is a goal machine. Markanday is the next Messi. Pears had a chat with Friedel and got infected with supergoalkeeperitis. Tomasson's wife's chippy sold-out of JDT-cakes in the first ten minutes of the grand opening and they're raking it in, so Tomasson is thinking "what a barm cake I was for thinking of leaving, we're on a bread roll!".

My source tells me we're on the verge of signing a reborn Nuno Gomes after he saw Leonard's performance today, so we've sorted out the strikers for the season.

We are going up. I've seen the light. 👀

QPR needs players. Lack of Centre backs for example.

Huddersfield needs a striker or 2 at least.

We've been desperate for a striker all summer, yet we managed to score two goals today and pick up a win against a good Championship side.

Huddersfield Town couldn't have wished for a worse opening fixture. I recall us losing at home against newly-promoted Charlton Athletic a good few seasons ago. Playing a newly-promoted side is one of the worst opening games you can have. They are buzzing, motivated, and reality hasn't set in for them, yet. That early eagerness starts to wear-off as the season progresses. I think Huddersfield Town will be fine.

As an aside, doesn't seem like we missed out on too much when Kipré chose WBA over us.

I've been taking a sneaky look at one of the West Brom forums. It's a childish pastime when we win. 😄 Indeed, the comments are "Kipre is Kipre". It doesn't seem as though they rate him.

Other notables are that they seem nonplussed with Corberan in general. I know. It's the internet. Everything is exaggerated. Still, I would have thought they have one of the best managers in the league, but they seem quite unanimous in saying that he had an absolute stinker today.

  4. I'll make one early prediction.

Sheffield Wednesday will go straight back down. I saw enough to realise that Sheffield Wednesday are still a League One side bereft of quality, perhaps aside from their goalkeeper. They were promoted by the skin of their teeth. I don't think Munoz is the right type of manager for them. They need a Warnock-type character if they want a chance at staying up.

The 1-2 scoreline flattered them, although I think there was an element of Russell Martin's possession nonsense that stopped Southampton from absolutely smashing them. Unless they make some signings in this window or the next one, they are going to go straight back down.

Going to long hard season for QPR and Huddersfield.

Warnock will see Huddersfield Town safe at a canter.

As for QPR, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ainsworth be the first managerial casualty in the Championship this season. I wouldn't have minded Ainsworth here last summer, but it looks like we dodged a bullet.

Anyone outside of UK can watch the game on RoversTV?

Signed up for the season and i cant watch the first game!

If your country of residence has a broadcasting partner that is showing the game (or, more technically, has bought the rights to show the game), then you cannot watch it on RoversTV from that location.

Pickering was excellent today not sure if you just don’t fancy him as the starting Lb (which is fair enough as many other agree) but today not a foot wrong defensively

There have been several occasions where Pickering's lack of pace has surprised me. He wasn't really tested on that today, which was equally surprising. Nobody seemed to have been told to take him on, as many other teams seem to have clocked onto. Perhaps I just didn't notice him, which isn't a bad thing, and perhaps it means he's doing his job and I'm being harsh.

I must admit, when Hyam let the ball bounce in the first-half, and Asante (?) almost ended up through on goal, I initially assumed it was Pickering until I saw the replay. Perhaps there is a slight bit of prejudice! However, we seem to be quite light at left-back. Would Jake Batty be next in line? Or Brittain, who is technically a right-back? It feels as though Pickering has absolutely no competition there. In Waggott's interview, he talked about a goalkeeper, a central defender, and a striker as the priority areas. For me, we only have one senior left-back, and I think it's being overlooked. At least publicly.

Looking at the Championship this season, obviously its bang average in general but there are very few really obviously poor teams.

    Obviously. 😆

When people say the league is as tough as it's ever been every single season, I usually ignore it as cliché, but this time it looks extremely tough on paper.

    Bang average? No chance.

Even Kean had enough and left.

Contracts generally work in that if one side or the other breaches it (for example, cancels it with no reasonable grounds), they have to pay the other side. This is largely why no manager ever resigns. Unless they can come to an amicable agreement with the club, they have to pay up their own contract (either from their own money or from the money of another club wanting to take them on).

Steve Kean never had enough of his contract. His Mickey Mouse posts since leaving Rovers tells you all you need to know about the level of earnings he should be on. Rovers was, of course, well-above his pay-grade.

  10. Great to see Harry Leonard signing a four year deal with the club. His previous contract still had another two years left on it, so the club clearly see big things in him for the future. You could even argue he's the best number nine at the club.

I suspect the club would have wanted to send him out on loan to League One or League Two for the season, but if needs must, we may need to keep him around. Three goals in four during preseason, or thereabouts? One of the shining lights in the current cloud that shouldn't be ignored.

Dolan also a victim of the inverted winger situation. Twice he got down the outside there but he has to cut in cos he’s no right foot.

I personally think Dolan just needs his confidence back. We've seen before that he's talented and dangerous, but he just needs to let go and believe in himself.

Markanday did just that today. Probably our most dangerous player in the wide position. I'm struggling to accept that Aberdeen didn't give him game time. He's had a very good preseason.

  12. Decent showing against a very good side.

    Negatives

Pickering doesn't look fit. I'd consider starting Brittain at left-back on Saturday.

Dolan's instinct seems to be to cut backwards when he could go forwards. He needs to cut that out and take risks.

We are clearly lacking in set-piece takers. Our training routines were rubbish, and I suspect we resort to those because we are a team completely lacking in the set-piece department. I think we have a set-piece coach, now. He's got his work cut out to say the least.

    Positives

Travis adds some shit-housing and character in midfield.

Tronstad is a typical classy midfielder. Very tidy on the ball with good control.

Leonard got a goal after signing a four-year contract. Hopefully the start of a big career at Rovers.

Markanday looks lively. I think he should start on Saturday. You can tell he has a point to prove.

    Other bits

Ennis get some minutes, but I suspect he's got several weeks ahead of him for working on his fitness.

I think we looked solid without being spectacular. We are devoid of ideas in the final third for the most part. It's clear that we need a couple more signings in that area of the pitch.
