  1. I love a horrible scrappy home win, they are the stuff of successful seasons. The Yahoos have had 2 in a week and they've got Rotherham at t'Turd on Wednesday.

Anyone that finishes above them goes up for me but I fancy we'll get our first draw of the season in the Land That Time Forgot.

Agreed, which is why I’m disappointed Lenihan seemingly got 95 minutes of abuse from the Rovers fans today. I get light hearted mocking but it sounds like he got it big time today.

That’s a man that spent 9 years of his career here, had the option to move earlier for more money and didn’t kick up too much of a stink, is a well respected captain and is liked at Brockhall, especially at the academy for which he did much more than he needed to.

He got to the age of a last big contract of his career and chose the most money, for a manager that tried to sign him before and really wanted him. And we’ve seemingly replaced him with someone at least as good!

Sometimes I despair, I really do.

Well, it's nice of you to be so concerned but I wouldn't despair too much. I'm sure he'll feel better when he opens his banking app.

Sometimes you just have to make it simple for those who are a bit slow on the uptake

As for Carter, I don't think he's good enough to be a first pick and we need someone better. Probably one reason why we're after the Liverpool lad

But good enough to play at RB in league 1? 🤔

Seems so. Probably not good enough for Super Scouts under 15s though.

I just saw Burnley's home shirt for this year and fuck me what an absolute howler that is.

I know they are a bit behind down the road but come on lads, 1996 was 26 years ago.

All b*ly shirts are foul but this is particularly nasty............and they've even managed to have a sponsor almost as cringey as ours.

Yeah, I’m trying to forget what ever it was.

There's a marked difference between the playing side of the club when Mowbray took over to when he left. As has been pointed out, it's doubtful that JDT would be here had that not been stabilised and Mowbray obviously played a key role in that.

Add that to our immediate return from League 1 ( ask Sunderland and Ipswich how easy that is) and it makes a reasonable case for him being more favourably viewed down the track.

Of course, I'm pissing in the wind by daring to suggest such heresy on here

    Utter nonsense.

With the passage of time we'll all continue to wonder why we spent the last 4 years back in the Championship treading water and seemingly making no effort to get promoted, while the manager spent every interview talking the club down.

Mowbray was a frustrating manager who was in tenure for a couple of seasons too long at least but the antipathy towards him on here by some is weird and cult like.

Wasn't being cryptic at all, I thought it was obvious.

If you think Tomasson would have been anywhere near the job 5 years ago, with a team in a relegation fight full of overaged, overpaid players, you must be dreaming.

He's a breath of fresh air, I was there last night and it was a great night. But if you think that this situation would be possible without the spade work done over the last 5 years, then I think you're sadly mistaken.

Tomasson knew exactly what he was inheriting.

I think, with the passage of time, Mowbray's tenure will eventually be viewed more positively by some of his detractors.

You break it for him, you break it for everyone. Besides which, he still wouldn’t sign, why would he if he’s confident of getting top flight interest in England or abroad. All he’s doing is limiting his options in the long term.

Exactly this. We need to hope that BBD and his agent don't want to risk serious injury in running down his contract and press for a move before the deadline.

Naaah, everyone at every level gets scouted to death these days - how did Spurs know about Ash Phillips before you and me? Jacob obviously didn’t impress anyone with his games in the U23s, and paying £500k for him was rash to say the least.

I think we signed him on the back of an impressive loan season with Burton. I feel for the lad, he looks a decent footballer but he seemed to regress after every injury.

Jesus, get a grip. Just because we don't come out telling the world our targets doesn't mean stuff isn't going on behind the scenes. Still got 5 weeks until the window closes.

Is there not a case to say that three or four weeks into the season is not the best time to be doing your transfer business?

Not just aimed at just you DMTP, but the part in bold shows you understand our situation aka ambition > finance, you understand the fierceness of competition between championship teams for players, and the plethora of options on bigger wages, who are waiting to see whether they get game time or if they’ll be down the pecking order at their club…

Not naming names, but why is it that posters who get this, are less panicky? Less demanding, for explanations or for people to “fess up”?

I think everyone here wants us to have the cliched “two decent players for every position” ready for Saturday, but I don’t think everyone understands the difficulty in attaining such.

It's often the case that the most accurate opinion lies between the opposite standpoints. It is, as you point out, unrealistic to expect two first team ready players per position for a club of our current stature however, patching up our depleted squad with one signing and a handful of Academy Kids is also reasonable cause for concern.

Heading a ball like Gestede did was purely down to desire to win the header. Same as tackling was to Stuart Pearce, Ron Harris, Roy Keane or Norman Hunter. Yes there are degrees of competency. But that's the first base. You don't have that desire the rest is irrelevant. Gallagher is a big lad, a proper athlete and there's a good reason he gets linked to Boro and the likes. The raw materials are there. In my opinion, he's too nice.

I agree with all of that. Gallagher could be an absolute beast, he needs a bastard of a manager.

    Tend to agree.

Only have to look at Giles. Utterly wasted here yet at Cardiff the Championship assist king and last night a hattrick of assists for Middlesbrough.

Wilder knows what he is doing.

    We can't let anyone go.

Besides Middlesbrough couldn't afford Gallagher. Unless FFP doesn't apply to them.

I think Gallagher could be a right handful at Championship level if utilised properly. I certainly wouldn't be happy with him going especially to the Smoggies who are getting right on my tit end at the moment.

It’s interesting how things change. I’d been led to believe we had a squad so brimming talent that it was only the unique ineptitude of Mowbray that stopped us winning promotion at a canter. Now it appears that we were entirely dependent on Rothwell’s 3 goals, Nyambe stopping the occasional breakaway and a career Championship-level defender in avoiding certain relegation.

Personally, I think the outcome will be somewhere in-between.

It's a good point but despite some overhyping the 'quality' of the squad to bolster their point,  we spent the latter part of last season in relegation form. How the owners expect an improvement on that by having a paper thin squad  denuded of last season's best and most experienced players only they know. To me it smacks of neglect, incompetence and contempt
