  1. Well, no, but the chances of it are higher based on what I've seen. I'm also biased to Rovers. 😁
  2. Wharton stayed here for a good season or more after establishing himself in the Rovers first team. Look how that's worked out for him. Phillips left two years ago and is being linked with clubs in the same league as us. I don't know if that's progression, really. I still think he would have been better off and would have earned playing rights in a side like Palace by now. But I suppose he is doing OK for himself and he could still blossom. Which proves that players often need time in spite of talking about Rooney and Pele!
  3. I reckon Phillips would have been far better off as a player staying at Rovers and getting a season or two of being a first-team regular under his belt than going to Spurs when he did. We're talking about Stoke City (let's say a club on a par with us) being interested in buying him. The path which Adam Wharton took is the way to go, and even that can happen very quickly. He established himself as a first team regular at Rovers for a season or so (?) before earning his deserved move to the Premier League. In other words, he proved he could do it in the Championship. Tyjon hasn't. I'd argue Phillips didn't, either. Not over a prolonged period, at least. I feel like these players should be doing that before jumping ship. Basically, copy and paste the Wharton way rather than going for the quick big bucks and hoping you'll get a settled pattern across multiple loans. Just my opinion.
  4. True, he did play in the number 10 role today. Jackson suggested he is a clever player who needs game time to mature and get used to the men's game. Sounds about right as an assessment to me. If he does go to Arsenal or another club to sit in the youth team, so be it. That's how the game rolls these days. Otherwise, if he stays at Rovers, a season of getting occasional game time off the bench could see us with a first-team player next season rather than this. Fingers crossed.
  5. I think it's only you that's angst after throwing your toys out of the pram for being questioned over your opinion. I've got no problem with your opinion. It's yours. But I'm allowed to question it. Ironically, if you can't handle that, then perhaps a public message board isn't the place for you rather than telling others it's not a place for them.
  6. I'd wager most of us have hardly seen Tyjon play (much). I have only heard about how good he's supposed to be. The £1m bid from Arsenal probably tells me more about the modern workings of football than it does about Tyjon himself as a player. And I think this is how a lot of young players in this same bucket as Tyjon (Phillip might be a good example) is more a sign of how the English game is good at destroying players rather than nurturing them. I shed a tear at Connor Mahoney. What a player for us he was, and we barely caught a glimpse. Wasted. Ash Phillips, barely caught a glimpse, and it feels like his development has curtailed. Still, with Ohashi and Gueye, I cannot see how Tyjon is going to "step up" in the Championship this season. In my view, he doesn't have to. Just continue developing at Rovers because you've got time on your side, and if you REALLY were as good as Rooney or Pele at 16 (which I know is some of the others' point), then it would have been clear by now. He's obviously not, so let's not overhype him to have to do this or do that. He's at the level he's at. Only the modern game and attraction of money too much, too soon, will destroy him.
  7. You said it's "time for Tyjon to step up". I'm asking you why. Never mind.
  8. Phil Jones was languishing "in the stiffs"? He was a star in the U21s at the time and a clear breakthrough prospect. So is Tyjon, actually, but what makes you think a 17 year old "must step up"? So I ask the question to you, step up, or what? Sell him because he's not good enough when he's not even a grown adult?
  9. Yes, but that's not even half of the story. Were Wharton, Dunn, or Duff good enough at 17? The answer is no. They weren't ready for first team football until after 18, and they were our best academy products of all time. Surely you're not suggesting we get rid of Tyjon if he doesn't "step up" to the first team this season. We all know how football works when it comes to big clubs poaching younger players, even when it's not clear that they'll fulfil their potential. Just because a Champions League club is prepared to pay £1m for him, which is loose change down the back of the sofa for Arsenal, it doesn't mean he's got to step up now or... or what?
  10. Aren't they offering £1m because of his potential rather than what he can do right now? Saying it's time for a 17-year old to step up to anything is laughable in my opinion.
