Why would we take someone else's reserves player on loan and then pay them of they aren't good enough to get into our first team? Another example of how football has gone mad. Surely we should be scouting and bringing in our own players rather than just taking other clubs' rejects and effectively doing them a favour and then paying for it.
Personally I think the whole system of loans is broken and should be avoided. These players almost always have no motivation to play for you and are a waste of time. Different if there is an intention to buy but usually it's a waste of time and money. There are some exceptions but not that many.

If we don’t sign a proper first choice keeper and centre back my expectations for next season will drop from 5-8 to 13-16. You need a good solid spine and we don’t have that. I’m sure we could get by with the full backs we have but not without a decent centre back.

We always seem to do this. We have all summer to sign a goalie and a centre back and now 10 days before the start we are still waiting. Surely it’s better to get them in early and allow some time to bed in. Without strengthening these areas with quality a repeat of last year is the best we can hope for this year.

Yes 100% almost showing lack of ambition to really push on imo.
And I feel that with the squad we are building now this could be the year we at least put a proper real challenge at the title. Showed it a bit last season beating them
I think Lennon being appointed is a massive boost for Rangers. Celtic will only go downhill under him. I know a lot of Celtic fans through mutual support of St Pauli and to a man they were distraught about this. Could be a way back in for your lot as I can’t see anyone else challenging next year. TBH I thought Hearts could have beaten them in the cup final despite being the worst Hearts side for a while.

Sorry mate seems only home end is pay at the gate. Wouldn’t be any trouble if you a few Rovers fans were in home end tho.
I think I’ll pay on gate. I’m meeting a couple of mates who have tickets so will just go in main stand. Ibrox is the only major ground in Scotland I’ve not been to with Rovers away games and a few Hearts trips over the years.

You mention that way fans can pay on the gate, is that right? I thought we were getting no more. I get back from holiday the day before but feel I should make the trip across to Weedgieland on the Sunday, clothes peg at the ready of course.

I think they must only have parts of the ground open and have sold out what was available. Noticed on other games the upper tiers weren’t available. Shame as would have liked to go as never been to ibrox.

I hear we’ve sold 1600 and aren’t getting any more. Oh no, that means I’m going to have to get a ticket in with the great unwashed. Maybe we’ll get more as they have 5 home games in July so there won’t be a huge crowd for our game.

Obviously we don't know the ins and outs of this but it seems strange that, contract or no contract, Rodwell wouldn't be desperate to get back into full time training with the run he's had in recent years. He's had best part of 2 months off already after all. He could do pre-season with us and sign for anyone at any point. Maybe he's just lazy, who knows?

That was the Football League Liner Jack. It was massively innovative at the time. Football fans were treated with disdain at the time by the media and the Football League put their necks on the line with this project. Each carriage had different features such as footage of previous games and indeed the disco carriage you mention. I didn't go to Watford on it but I went to Hereford (I think) where we got gubbed by 6-2. In the disco carriage felt tipped markers were left for you to write pretty much what you wanted on the carriage walls. I remember Burnley had it the week before and there was lots of anti Rovers graffiti, all wrongly spelt of course.
You still get these in Germany. St Pauli do 1 for the last away game of the season. Called the sonderzug. It has a bar and a party carriage where punk and ska music are played. Usually leaves in the small hours to arrive at breakfast time for a few more before the game. Usually ends in carnage. I’m still plucking up courage to go one year.

Would it be absurd to ask about Sturridge? I mean his last outing was at West Brom where he failed miserably, he can't have his sights set too high...plus here he would be a guaranteed starter every game. This is if he wants to play football. If he is happy warming the bench with much higher wager at another club for the rest of his career...that would be unfortunate.
Yes. He’ll be at somewhere like West Ham next season earning £60k a week. He’s not going to drop into the lower leagues from the fringes of Liverpool ‘s team and his wages will be off the scale.

Never been to Castle Greyskull but doubt I’ll make this as only back from holiday the day before.

If you went to Bogarts and you weren't from Darwen you would definitely remember it. Parochial battles were a nightly occurrence. I took the worst kicking I ever got in that place. The era you describe is spot on for Bogarts.
That's right, no fun afterwards when you were stuck in the middle of nowhere trying to get back to Blackburn without getting a kicking.

I'm surprised we offered any of the out of contract players a new deal. Looked like a good chance to make some space in the squad to bring 3 or 4 in who could get into the first team. I think as a manager you have to back yourself to do that while by retaining squad players all you are doing is cutting your options for first team signings. Strange decision really.
Look at the goalie situation, neither of them is a first choice keeper in my opinion and we have the chance to get rid of 1 and bring someone else in but turn it down in favour of extending a contract. What means a wage and a signing on fee are gone on someone who clearly isn't up to the job.
