  1. Savage - looking fit and was able to control the midfield.  All being well we will be seeing the best of him in the next season.

Agree with most of what you've said Modi, but not about Savage. Thought he ran around a lot but to very little effect and made very little contribution overall.

Austraila 15 to win - jesus!!

  2. Perhaps if it was renamed 'The Free Beer Stadium' we'd fill it evey week...?

We do have a problem, filling the ground, I'd be a bit worried that changing the name might further disassociate the club from all those who just turn-up twice a season to see us play the scum/chelsea (or whoever else is flavour of the season) and others who might come more often if there was a stronger association between the club and the town.

  3. I've watched a couple of the England games on TV and have been a little disappointed by the poorish technique on display altho' its clear that the better teams (e.g. Germany/Sweden) are significantly better than the rest.

However it seems very odd to me that so many people have commented that women's football is a waste of time just because they're not as good as the men. Well there are a lot of reasons for this, which have already been touched upon, history (the FA banned women's football for years because its popularity was threatening the mens game!), culture, lack of infrastructure, physical differences etc etc blah blah.

But lets put it this way, if you play amateur football, sunday morning pub leagues etc you turn up each week and play and the standard isn't great but you wouldn't say "hey- we're not very good, this is a waste of time lets pack it in", you play because you like it and its fun.

So lets imagine that someone comes along to your sunday game and wants to put together a representative England sunday league team, (you might send them off to Turd Moor) if you were selected you'd play, you wouldnt decline on the grounds that it was a waste of time because the standard wasn't as good as the pros.

I'm not likely to be an avid follower of women's football in future, but it seems strange to me that they get stick for not being very good. Just let them get on with it and in a few years time this debate will go away, just as it has with with women's athletics, tennis, golf, skiing, cycling, swimming......etc etc

  4. This is disgusting.

As ever the FA are reacting to the media feeding frenzy which has no basis in fact, rather than thinking for themselves. They're an organisation which loves to look as though its doing something, when in fact it never addresses and of the important issues. Its easy to kick a small club than to sort-out the tapping-up and diving which is rife at the top of the league.

If you don't want to know the real score, look away now.

  5. I predicted a 2-0 to Rovers and it might still go that way, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was very niggly and nasty and we might see a red card ot two (hope not of course) and I can't shake the feeling that Mr Le Saux will be involved.

Lets hope he as a punch-up with Aunty Neimi and gets sent-off smile.gif

  6. Don't know if anyone else has posted this, but the official site says:

"After taking the advise of medical officers, it has been agreed to cut his season short with a view to him returning for pre-season in the summer."

    linky winky

so perhaps he's not being cut adrift yet...perhpas the club'll decide wether to offer him a new contract in the summer if he looks ok when he comes back.

  7. bit convienient that arsenal and man utd are kept apart in the only compeition they have a chance of silverware.

    warm balls...?

not that I'd suggest any foul play, unofficial seeding etc...

  8. Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but if we do make it to the final and play the Scum or the Gooners, then we'll be playing in Europe next season. If we play the maggots we'll have to win it.

Obviously I'd love us to actually win the Cup, but as a big bonus, if we can just get there, it could have a big impact on the sorts of players who we might be able to sign in the summer. rover.gif

  9. Colin Hendry has said he wants to take Ciaran Donnelly back on loan at Blackpool.

The relegation battle at the bottom of the Coca Cola can is hotting up. The Gills have had some good wins and Forest are on a real charge.

Our opponents on Sunday probably see the loaning of Douglas and McEveley to the Gills as the start of hostilities! The dingles won't be too happy either.

beat me to it P - heres a link

  10. As somebody who said on these forums "If Reid's a premiership player then so am I" I am now sat here eating my hat with a generous side order of humble pie.

    He was excellent yesterday

I should also queue up for my serving - recently I questioned wether he was much of an improvement on Douglas. Well I thought he looked pretty good vs Bumley and sounds like he was better at Goodison. If he can keep this up then perhaps we'll begin to see what GS saw in him - I hope so. The big questions is can he, and the rest of the team, produce this sort of performance consistently?

  11. Agreed CLB - Gally's defensive work probbably isn't as good as Emertons, altho Emo has been known to pull out of the odd challenge. But if Gally was more of a threat going forwards then he would tend to push the opposing fullback back anyway...I do't know I reckon its worth a go.

  12. Although this is probably not the thread to discuss Gally, I have to say the one aspect of his game where he can provide quality is in his crossing. Perhaps a positional change is in order?

Agreed - it occured to me last night that we should give him a go wide right instead of Emerton, who never looks up, doesn't seem to know where anyone else is and just runs into trouble. rant over smile.gif

  13. Have to say that Steve Bruce is rocketing up the whingeing hypocrite charts at a fair pace, but what gets my goat is the crap football journalists who never get out of the home counties (and thats most of them) who constantly re-hash each other's ill-informed and out of date bo***cks about Rovers buying the title, Tottingham being a big club, Man U, Arse & Chelski having a devine right to play beautiful football...oh don't get me started mad.gif

That Eamonn Holmes is a wa**er also but I wouldn't want to flatter him by describing him as being 'in football' he'd love that. And as for that smug git Lynham aaaarrrgghhhh! mad.gifmad.gif
