He did marry Christine Kitchin, a Darwen Girl.

Is he the same Peter Devine who took that dreadful penalty on nick hancocks football nightmares?! 90s cult classic

edit: just seen someone else confirm this further back 😂

remember the game last year when ryan giles put a string of superb crosses in but tactical genius mowbray had us  playing with no centre forward (false nine bollocks) so they all went to waste😡,that was all she wrote for giles he spent the rest of his spell here playing out of position🤣

Giles, playing left full back at the weekend for boro, did more in that one game than he did in his entirety for us, earning MOTM. All he had to do was be played in his current position - who’d have thought?

What a breath of fresh air to be Mowbray-less.

  3. I don’t buy the ‘but who would venky’s replace him with line’. Life’s too short: Mowbray year on year is on par with Einsteins definition of insanity. I’ve reached the point where I don’t care whether it works if not; I’d rather take the gamble and see what happens.

heard some Bantam discussing the impact Hughes has had on them in 3 games despite the results. What I’d give for some passion and identity like that. Supporting Rovers is a painful, downright depressing and thankless task again.

Back in our promotion campaign of 2000/01 we had a healthy cup run, all the way to the quarter finals, losing to eventual runners up Arsenal, who probably should have won, remember Michael Owen's late brace in Cardiff?

We despatched of Chester City at home in round 3, beat then Premier League Derby County 5-2 at Pride Park in the fourth round replay, before needing a replay at Ewood to see off promotion rivals Bolton Wanderers in the sixth round.

In fact we played Bolton at the Reebok twice in the same week, Saturday in the FA Cup, where it finished 1-1, though Rovers went down to 10 men after Flitcroft was sent off after just 9 minutes! Before famously, thumping our nearest rivals to automatic promotion at the time, on the following Friday night 4-1.

I suspect Souey's teamtalk was simple. If they can't beat 10 of you, what will they be like against 11?

Adding 5 games to our ''busy'' schedule didn't seem to cause any issues to that squad.

Winning is a habit and winning breeds confidence and competition.

A Rovers victory tomorrow with a series of strong performances from fringe 1st XI players like Ayala, Gallagher, Dolan, Butterworth, Edun etc... would send out a message to those currently in possession of the shirts.

I was at the Chester game.  A certain David Lowe scored for them

in fact, I’m confusing myself. This was 4-2 against Wigan in the cup in the late 90s 😂

I would absolutely accept that as a penalty against us. It wasn't too dissimilar to the one not given for a push by a Spurs player on Jota recently. That was almost universally accepted as wrong.

The main thing a referee can offer in any one game is consistency then everyone knows where they stand. Yesterday the only consistency was his inconsistency as some free kicks were allowed to be taken yards from the incident and on others he insisted on the blade of grass where the incident occurred. Similarly what was a foul one minute wasn't the next. And this was for both teams.

I certainly agree on the inconsistencies. Seemed to be advantages for us, but immediate whistles for small things on their players which were questionable in the first place. Certainly disrupted the flow of the game after first 20 minutes.

The second challenge is a penalty. How is it acceptable to shoulder an opponent in the back? If that happened anywhere outside the penalty area it's a free kick don't you agree?

It happens all over the pitch, not all are given.  Less likely to be given in the area as well - just the way it is.

Not a penalty for me, but the initial foul definitely was one which was a shame it didn’t work out to our favour.

would you have been happy had the same penalty been given against us?

I don’t think the referee had a great game by all accounts - certainly lots of frustrating things. However, I don’t think he got everything wrong as Mowbray is suggesting. Not an easy game on that surface, so a decent point.

Surely the whole point of an advantage is to see if there is an advantage then pull it back. The fouled side should not be disadvantaged.

It literally cannot be an advantage if brereton doesn't fully regain his balance after the first foul.

I don't think it was an advantage that came to nothing it felt like he just missed it.

Advantage was the correct decision at the time I thought. My point was that because it then carried into the penalty area, this became a bigger shout that overtook the initial foul in the crowds and teams eyes which seemed to work against us rather than get the initial foul. SmHaving seen it back, it was not a penalty after it so should have been called back to initial foul just outside the area.

something similar happened in the second half as well on one occasion where we would have been better with the stoppage, although I can’t remember exactly what it was.

  8. Buckley and Travis were both clear yellows to me. The Town lad and Van Hecke should have seen red for two yellows.

the BBD penalty shout first half, definite foul, to which correct advantage was played; however, one of those cases where the advantage puts you in a worse position sadly.

I thought Huddersfield were a well oiled unit so a decent point. They looked more likely to win at times. Whoever scored would have won 1-0. Frustrating that the pitch stifled Rothwell and Buckley games. TM made the right shout with Gallagher but should have put him more central and aimed for knockdowns.

the 3 centre halves were all excellent for me. Wharton or Lenihan MOTM. Wharton had no grace at all but crikey he does the job well.

an enjoyable visit to Ewood with a decent point and 2nd place. Happy new year!

  9. Having just taken part in the Blackburn 10k, first time up to Ewood in a few years for various reasons, it was sad to see Ewood looking so grubby, certainly from the outside. Needs a good power wash! How expensive is that? Interior looked much better.

what was more surprising, or not perhaps given those in charge, was that the club shop showed no signs of life.  How many times will you have up to a thousand people in the vicinity of the ground on a Sunday morning, especially buoyed by the current form. I would have certainly spent a few pounds. Missed and trick spring to mind.

great to be back at Ewood however and determined to make the Barnsley game.

  10. I’ve just entered Blackburn 10k. Had no idea that it existed! Bit of a drive from Shrewsbury for a 9.30 start but couldn’t resist. Will be just after dads 2 year lost battle with MND and always enjoyed our time at Ewood together so could be a bit of an emotional nostalgic trip.

I know you have Potter in your name, but I lived around Stoke myself for about 7 years and I wouldn't call that a thick Stoke accent. I'd say it's a bit of a mix, about 80% Stokie maybe but something else underlying it (which I'd assume is a dash of Chilean, but it doesn't really sound Chilean because of the mix...she almost sounded Geordie in a few brief moments!).

That said, despite the fact I can do a lot of accents and lived down there for 7 years, I was never able to do a Stokie accent properly myself. It's a bit of a hodge podge of a few other accents, I could never figure out the 'rules'. Sometimes it sounds scouse, sometimes brummy, sometimes northern...

I hail originally from Stafford. Always found it out, and quite fortunate, how we had a relatively week accent despite being surrounded on 3 sides by stoke, Cannock and wolverhampton.

  12. I want Mowbray to go as much as most on here, just for a change from the staleness. However, odds are against him now aren’t they…

If this is true, for him to have best chance of success, he needed backing with a striker. He wasn’t, so chances are he will do worse, not well enough to be backed and is gone at end of season.

The crux: if true, the above is almost inevitable. So why wait another year for the inevitable, malaise set in, watching player contracts run down so assets that could be important for future success with a new manager disappear for free so the job for the next guy in is even harder?

such a frustrating club to support, jeez.
