  1. I agree. But first he has to have the desire to be a Rover. And while I would love to keep him, it seems a lost cause.

On Holiett, the way Sam has been speaking recently suggests it may not be a lost cause (saying Olsson, Kalinic and Holiett were the future of the club).

The fact many of us would not blink an eye lid if some of our first teamers left says it all (about the worrying lack of quality throughout the squad).

  2. The first to blink will decide the matter.

Sounds like West Ham have a few striking options, so not sure how much they will be willing to pay for Benni - I know they have money to spend now, but our reluctance to sell him could be more down to the fact we cannot replace him adequately.

Regardless of his attitude, which has been questionable for some/much of his time here, he is still our best finisher.

Looking at replacements, decent strikers usually cost big fees and wages too.

  3. Benni still is our best goal scorer. I would say it is a fairly major decision to let him leave, particularly as we are involved in a relegation battle.

On the merits of selling him - we know his qualities, but there is more to it than that – the manager does not like putting Benni in the team and Benni does not like playing for us (due to style of football & lack of first team opportunities).

Personally I would keep him until the end of the season if possible, as he is quality and his departure would only weaken us in the short-term.

The repalcement would have to be decent quality to make me feel comfortable about him leaving.

  4. While I agree they should all be in as they have been rubbish recently it does not mean the treatment of Benni is unfair.

Some of our players are simply not good enough. That’s not to say they cannot improve but there is only so much you can do.

Benni has the talent and quality, we know that. However, clearly he has problems with keeping his weight to a adequate/required level as it appears to fluctuate throughout the season (sometimes he looks leaner than other occasions).

  5. Anyone who has Rovers World, what does Benni say on the official site? He looks happy!

Just saying he loves playing and enjoys himself when playing. Unhappy he has not scored more goals (cites the Spurs game) and we did not get 3 points versus Wigan - said we have been on the end of some bad luck and good goalkeeping.

Smiled when asked on his future, said time will tell.

Salgado view here: 'Benni is a top-quality player. He's a key player - everyone needs them in their team.

  6. Dunn, always a game away from injury

    Di Santo, leaving

    Benni, being ousted

That leaves Kalinic and Hoilett to learn their trade from er, Roberts

I'd say we need a couple of strikers if we ask Benni to go. One experienced PL one and probably another 6 month loan - preferably Di Santo.

Ask any outsider, our team/squad is very average these days, and we have been losing our best/better players at an intense rate - Benni is a quality player still and can score goals - getting rid in January is very risky. Even with a big financial outlay, seemingly, Sam still struggled to bring in a striker who could make an impact.

  7. I know he is getting on age wise, but slightly concerned to hear Sam's comments - as pointed out, there is a liklihood Dunn will get injured shortly, if you take into account his track record.

Also, whilst he can be frustrating, he still is one of our better players and has quality - we really have to be careful because if we are not careful, we are going to end up with none.
