  1. Pressure needs to be put on the owners by the town to invest in this squad and better questions need to be asked by the journos to find out what is being tried and where it's going wrong. There are fan expectations that need to be met or explained if they are not. The club is a mystery and we seem to have screwed up every transfer window since being owned by Venky's, cheap signings always seem overly complicated. Why? Maybe they have a good reason? Either way you can't run a successful football club this way and it's already become very tiresome. Eventually the better players will start looking for a move. People like this Sharpe need to be driving those expectations daily and turning up the heat.

  2. To put it simply there seems to be 2 reasons to use loans.

Add extra quality/ competition to an established squad to achieve promotion (i.e. Leeds/ West Brom/ Fulham)

    or

Plug holes where you can't find/ afford (or aren't permitted to sign) permanent players in order to survive or finish mid table (i.e. QPR/ Blackburn)

It's hard to justify the latter as a good way to run a business, although yes as fans it's nice to get to watch better quality players. If this summer is spent loaning players to plug the same holes as last year, we won't achieve promotion and won't be any closer next year... but we will still have spent a significant amount of money.

If we are serious about promotion then we need to sign and loan players now. We have a "bigger than most" task already because of last summers failures, let's not make it a yearly thing.

I'm hoping to see some good permanent signings over the next couple of weeks from England and abroad, otherwise the manager and his scouts need to go. In my opinion the same finish as last year with more permanent players would be progress but I want more, including loans that aren't just to keep us ticking over.

Today we are miles off and need to start demonstrating some new ideas.

Very true. I won't deny Harrison Reed his special place in Rovers fans heart. A player with great tenacity and one I'd love to have here. But the simple fact remains, he isn't our player, he didn't help get us promoted, and we could've achieved what we did (survival in the CH) without wasting a chunk of money on him.

From a simply business only sense, Harrison Reed and Kasey Palmer were effectively pointless for us. We'd have stayed up without them, so it was basically just a loss of funds for the sake of extra bodies. Obviously from a footballing sense I think Reed brought a lot to the table, but at the end of the season we achieved what we achieved, and I think we could've easily done the same without him.

I second this, for me quality loans should compliment an established permanent core and be used to push for promotion. We don't have it. The only real winners in the Tosin deal were City and Tosin. Instead we use them to plug a few holes.

  4. We are scared to ask for better, that goes to both local journalists and other fans from what I'm hearing. Understandable considering the damage Venky's caused, however, it now means we're forced to be content with mediocrity. It's not where Blackburn Rovers should be but it is where we deserve to be under the current ownership and management. No ambition.

If social media is anything to go by Holtby seems more committed to his fitness and conditioning than most. Mowbray did say his fitness levels were high even when we first signed him.
