  1. I thought Butterworth was more of a number 10 than a midfielder?
  2. Not sure about that. Might scare him off!
  3. Interesting in the LT that we haved 'moved on this week' from some targets. Also references patience 'in the corridors of power'. Would seem to give some credence to the recent posts about transfer plans being in chaos.
  4. This whole thread is based on rumour and conjecture! Fun isn't it ?
  5. No - but you can adjust the figures to whatever works for you. There will always be variables in a hypothesis ?
  6. Rovers transfer policy has been chaos for a long time now. Hypothesising - Tony goes with targets from A list. These will get us challenging top 6 but will cost £25 mil. Venkys say: we will fund that. Tony then says that my B list I can get for less than £10 mil and they will also get us challenging the top 6. Venkys say: ok - do that then. Venkys enquire half way through the window how the targets are going. None of the B list have signed as the reality is, at the moment, their cost is nearer £15-£20 mil. Tony says he might be able to get them if we wait. Venkys are confused. They look at the fixtures in August. They think about being told of the benefits of buying players with time to bed in. They think about missing targets last year on deadline day. They want promotion. They think that buying the A list players isn't that much more in reality (to them), will get us top 6 (so they were told) and they were happy to fund that anyway. They tell Tony to forget the B list and go for the A. Tony and Waggott feel a little hot under the collar at having to deliver (and the affordability aspects of delivering ) the A list. Not to mention the pressure on cracking the top 6. It's not the model they wanted to follow. They aren't comfy with it. Result is Rovers transfer policy ends up in tatters and we end up with one expensive player. It would fit in with the last 12 months of being told money available but we want to get "value". Moral of the story. Rich people can afford the A list. Don't show them that and expect them to be happy with a B or C list.
  7. Gransfers? Have we been linked with Rooney now?
  8. All quiet on the ST front since deadline for renewals. I'm guessing around 6000. Anyone heard anything?
  9. Only problem with bringing him on means we will then sit back and we all know how that ends. More likely to start and contribute to a goal less first half!
  10. Irony there is that we've made much more selling defenders than any other area!
  11. Then are we allowed to lambast the manager...or does he get the January window as well? Let's not forget that this is window 3 of his 4 window plan to have us challenging for promotion and playing like Barca.
  12. And would you be concerned if at least one decent defender doesn't come in? Not recently obviously as Sharpe is away getting wed
  13. We know what our weaknesses are and without a doubt our squad is currently weaker than last summer. Downing (Cb) and reed having gone. Five weeks to go till the season starts......6 weeks till the deadline. No new players starting pre-season training. As others have said, we will line up with the same defence and Raya back in the nets.
  14. TM said at his 'evening with' that we need a 6ft 4 ugly CB who can head a ball. He also mentioned not getting one was a regret from his Coventry spell. If we don't get one this window (even if it's a squaddie that just fills in against aerial teams) then it's inexcusable. Simple as.
  15. Mowbray promised defenders. The only link has been to Bauer. Either we have better targets lined up or we don't and the same defence and keeper starts the season. I have no idea what to believe these days. If he doesn't address the defence though by the end of the window, he clearly will not take us anywhere.
  16. And another defensive name touted disappears. Apart from the Millwall lad, can't see who's left and potentially available that will improve the defence.
  17. Thanks for clarifying. If he can't go past a man on the wing, where has he been playing for Boro? Smallwood was great in league one. Needed that type of blood and thunder player. Very limited technically though - really struggled at championship level.
  18. Thanks for the insight. Out of interest, why did he get stick from sections of the Boro fans?
  19. LT reporting: "Up to 5 signings" and hope to keep 'star men' Gk, upto 2 CB, cm and striker. TM quote: Some of those might be free transfers, some might be loans, and some players that we might look to buy, polish them up, and then sell on. “We might also have players in the building who can make an impact for us next season.” If that last part is referring to players we already have, like Ben B, Chapman and under 23s then there is clearly bugger all budget. It looks like a vintage venky window! *Also, where does Downing the winger fit into the spine of the team?
  20. Negative head: Dack and lenihan will both go for decent money. I genuinely think Dack will leave - otherwise would have expected a new contract signed by now. We'll get a couple of decent quality loans in with the freed up wages and spend a couple of million on a young player or 2, who may or may not be first team ready. The rest will be offset against our losses. All will be quiet until the ST seat renewal date passes. Positive head:. We are waiting for a sale to top up the kitty and then will invest the lot and bring in 4 or 5 first team ready players. ? I'll go 80:20 in favour of being a negative Nelly.
