That is absolutely staggering. 25 English managers out of around 80 clubs? Isn't Mick McCarthy Irish, or did one of his grandparents have a pint of guiness once? Steve Cotterill 17th best!?! Shocking.

  2. Does not the A56 also come into Manchester from the Cheshire direction, through Altrincham ?

    377300

Ah - the dangers of assumption...!

Yes, it's probably the Chester Road. I don't come that way but from memory you can go along the Chester Road until you get near OT (with all those Man U chippies on the left and a Ford dealership) and then turn right and that takes you down to the A5014 and the cricket club. Loads of car parks down there

  3. As near as possible, in a safe place and not too expensive !

    377298

Well, I'm not sure about safe (as in with loads of Man U fans about!) but you can park at Lancy cricket club - I think it might cost a few bob though. Then it's about a half mile walk to the stadium.

To do that you go all the way down the A56 (Bury New Road). The traffic will be bad anyway so the easiest route is to carry straight on into Manchester along Deansgate and out the other side along Bridgewater Way. Carry on and when you see a BMW/Mini showroom at a junction take the left onto the A5014 and follow the road. I think the cricket ground is signposted but it's on the A5014. I work around there at the moment and loads of the offices offer parking as well but the cricket ground seems well organised

  4. I don't disagree with your analysis but for me it doesn't explain why Savage, whose game revolves around chasing down the ball and giving players absolutely no time to dwell e.g. Liverpool away, failed to continue at least trying to do that in the 2nd half. Smith was strolling around like he owned the place.

    374288

I suspect because Utd "did" him with that tackle, got him booked and he just drifted out of the game - physcologically

  5. Generally happy with that. Thought the booking on Sav was unfortunate but he's only got himself to blame. It took him out of the game really. Unhappy with the inconsistency - in the second half I watched Stiles book Tugay after counting 4 fairly innocuous fouls, yet both Silvestre (why the long face) and Ronaldo (neck, what neck?) both committed a similar series of fouls in a similar timeframe and didn't get carded.

With a bit of luck united will be over-confident in the second leg

  6. Excellent report. A couple of points. Firstly, and selfishly, I'll be p*ssed off if me and the family are turfed out of the Blackburn End into the JW stand to fall asleep and get rained on. I know you are trying to create an atmosphere in the BBE but why not try to spread it around? Secondly, is there a link between changes in the Blackburn demographic and attendances - for example the disappearance of British Steel - did you research that? Thirdly, and something that has been brought home to me recently, immediatly after Xmas I simply cannot afford (time or money) to do a home prem match, an fa cup home match, a CC home semi followed by another home prem match in the space of a few weeks. So if they were to introduce a winter break - after xmas might be the time. Good luck

  7. our drummer was outcassed and hardly drummed

    371016

I put it down to the congested fixture list - he was clearly suffering from too many matches in a short period biggrin.gif

I thought Taylor from Pompey was pretty effective and might be worth a punt if they go down - right up until his taxi moment in our box!

I was horrified at the sight of our left back last night. A fully fit and match sharp Matteo runs and turns slower than an HGV so imagine what he was like last night on his return from 6 weeks out. If you weren't there, put a Rovers DVD on and play at half speed... I never thought I'd say this but bring back Micky Gray

  8. Just been announced that Owen is to have surgery which means he's out until April.

Nothing on Given's hand yet- they have to wait for the bruising to go down before they can X-ray.

Rammage limped off with a hamstring as well.

Other than Birmingham or Burnley, couldn't happen to a better bunch.

    370436

I don't wish injury on anyone, but from an England perspective this could be the perfect scenario - an enforced 2 month rest for Owen followed by 4-6 weeks getting match fitness and sharpness back should have him in prime form for the World Cup. Just need to hope nothing happens to Rooney now.

From a Newcastle perspective this will either sink them or lead to some sort of mini-revival. Take Owen and Given out of that team so far and they would be not far from Sunderland. However, adversity has a way of bringing out the best in people so don't be surprised if they do okay

  9. What the bloody hell were you planning on doing there at 6.30?

    369498

Well, if you must know my itinerary it would have gone as follows

6.30 - park car on muddy field

6.35 - leave car after getting daughter kitted out in jumpers, scarves, coats, gloves provided by wife

6.40 - 7.10 (queue + eating time) - bag of chips to share from Red Dragon

    7.10 - enter ground

7.15 - finally get up steps to BBE top tier

    7-20 - start breathing again

7-22 - order pie and drink for daughter

7-30 - staff finally add it up and work out change from a fiver

    7-35 - take seats ready for kick-off

7-40 - escort daughter back down to toilet

  10. God only knows what Schwarzer was thinking of by racing out for the first goal but full marks to Kuqi for the header.  It was that powerful it might well have beaten Schwarzer if he had stayed on his line.  Kuqi may not be everyone's cup of tea, he will never be a clinical finisher, and he's hardly footballing eye candy for the purist.  But his effort, size and application will make him a handful for most centre halves and will provide openings and opportunities for his team mates.

As I predicted months ago he is proving a good aquisition and excellent  value for money.  All round a superb bit of business for Blackburn Rovers by MH in selling the feeble Stead for so much and getting 'Lionheart' Kuqi for so little.  I judge players according to how I would like to play against them and to all Kuqi's detractors answer this.........

......Who would you rather mark Kuqi or Stead?

btw ........Regarding the game tomorrow I just hope that I am not tempting fate here!    unsure.gif

    369155

I had an argument with liverpool fan at work about this. Who would I rather have

    Crouch or

Kuqi and 7 mill in my @rse pocket biggrin.gif

    Hmmm, difficult one
