if the above is true then you`ve got to take it,it would be shocking business to pay 7 million for someone then lose him for nothing,i wish ben the best of luck, bearing in mind he`s joining a ****show with a donut as a manager

Shocking business for Venkys? It’s doesn’t make sense agreed, but when you’re a billionaire you can do what you want. What’s 20 million anyway, it’s not the fans money, if Venkys don’t mind letting him leave for free then we should be happy with that, get to see him for another season 👍

OK fair enough, see above then.

Can only be a loan in that case.

Why can’t Leicester put a clause in the loan deal? Regardless of if he signs a new deal or not. It would be a clause between Rovers and Leicester and totally separate to his contract situation.Like many others have pointed out, if he was to do well whilst on loan who’s to say he’s sign for us if he was a free agent at the end of it, gives us an insurance policy. Still think it’s a obligation to purchase.

Read back what you're saying. He's a free agent at the end of the season but you're claiming we're entering into an agreement which would involve us paying Leicester a fee at that point out of the goodness of our hearts even though they no longer own him.

Think about it like this -

Leicester want a sale and are reluctant to loan him out due to potentially him leaving for nothing. Rovers don’t want to pay a fee now and want to work it into the finances for next season.

Agreement reached on a loan to buy. Both parties are happy then.

    it’s not rocket science.

Yeah but why would the deal be an obligation to buy if he becomes a free agent at the end of the years loan?

So they don’t lose him for nothing. They want some funds back however small they may be.

Why would Leicester loan us a player in their last year just to lose them to free at the end of it.

i guarantee it will be an obligation to buy, dressed up as a option to buy.

Nixon saying B/pool want £4m for Bowler. If we start a whip round we can bring him back on the coach tomorrow night.

Surely is we wanted him, we could afford him from Venkys special pot? I don’t think he would have any interest in coming here, not when he can wait until the end of the season and leave on a free to a prem team.

Would love this, but it’s pie in the sky.

excellent deal for us,i think venkys gave up on mowbray and turned the money tap off after initially backing him very well,if they had any idea of the game they would have offloaded him two seasons ago

My worry is if we sell Diaz we have no one who is capable of 15-20 goals per season. Gallagher may get there is played as a centre forward but from seeing JDT’s team it’s more fluid so he won’t play predominantly as a CF.

If he goes we need a replacement otherwise we are up shit creek without a paddle.

Unsure what to make of the Hyam potential deal. Coventry are one of Sky's less fancied teams and they concede a lot of goals as a team and have a number of quite slow centre backs in Hyam, Rose and McFadzean.

I always think it is useful to gauge opinions of the fans who have seen him week in, week out. Like with Szmodics, there is a common theme that they would rather sell him than others in the squad and that the fee is decent, albeit they certainly aren't as keen as Peterborough fans were to let him go and they are very commonly suggesting that he is their best defender and would leave a big hole.

Style wise, his lack of pace and limitations on the ball don't really tally with the supposed fluid, energetic style that we want to play (perhaps a symptom of not having the manager choose the players?) but as a more no nonsense defender, hopefully he likes to keep clean sheets, more than he has in the last 2 seasons!

He would be a permanent signing, is a good age being experienced but also coming into his peak so that goes in his favour and he also has played consistently over the last 2 seasons at mid table Championship level.

The LT suggests that it could be Hyam only in defence with the deal for Van Den Berg who is very good at this level potentially falling through. I am not convinced that Hyam, Wharton, Ayala and Carter is anything other than a significant downgrade on last season. We also cannot hold off signing players to try and guarantee Phillips game time because he isn't ready for Championship football yet.

Could this deal not have been done a week or two earlier? Probably.

Actually sounds like he’s a ball playing defender. Best not to assume he’s a no nonsense defender. As for limitations on the ball - the below is from a Coventry fan with stats to back it up.

I suggest he has slot more knowledge of the player than you. This is signing you want to make if you want to keep the ball and dominate.

Considering Coventry have been on a sharp rise at the top end of the table for the last year, he has played over 40 games in the last two years, this looks a smart signing.

im going to guess his wages will be lower than what we offered Lenihan. However I’m going to agree with Jim, surely it would have been cheaper to keep Lenihan?

Smart business for me, on the youngish side for a CB (26) and has hardly missed a game for Coventry over the last two seasons.

Small twitter thread on the type of player he is -
