  1. I think as long as someone else knock out warry we will defo win it

Here's hoping  cos I think they'll be very slight favourites over ourselves.

I get the feeling that once again we don't have too much left in the tank although yesterday's never-say-die attitude gives me some hope.

I look at our line up and know that if everyone plays to his potential, we'll edge it.

  2. Unbelievable come back today after being 26-0 down and then winning 42-36 at the death.

For most of the first half we were as poor as I've ever seen and with a twenty six point defecit I felt we were dead and buried. We gradually clawed our way back into the game and sealed it at the death with a couple of tries, the first of which was converted.

Fantastic scenes at the end when the players and chairman came over to the large Wigan support to say thanks in the warm sunshine.

Pleasant couple of hours in the city centre before the game with food and drink down at Princes Quay.

Let's hope we can carry today's late second half momentum into the Saints game on Friday and then into the play offs. I just hope we've enough left in the tank.

  3. Yes an absolute mare. Leeds' first four tries were from our errors, we were then on the back foot and never recovered. Several players chose to have their worst games of the season, Tomkins and Finch included. Gelling barely touched the ball. Leeds didn't have to play particularly well, they just didn't make many errors. Let's hope we can now get fired up to keep our top spot and then go on to clinch the big one again.

  4. Not sure I should add this here but Paul Round's wife Sue passed away this week after a long illness. Very sad.

I worked with Sue for several years in the 80s and early 90s. I only heard she was ill a few weeks ago. Very, very sad indeed.

Same age as me. Puts a lot into perspective.

  5. Anyone off to france? gutted im missing out

Had planned a long weekend in the south of France but had to call it off, unfortunately, as something cropped up. Next season, hopefully.

Another quality win today tempered by the bad news about Dudson. Can't find anything official about the injury but it sounds like his ankle or leg could be broken.

More bad news about Finchy leaving but at least that was expected.

  6. I thin I'm enjoying this more than last week!!! Hahaha dirty leeds! Just been awesome.

Damn. I knew I should have gone!

What a performance tonight with a so called depleted pack. Shows the value of strength in depth. This is some team. There is mention elsewhere of peaking at the wrong time. This can be a feature of Rugby League but my view is just keep winning and beating anyone put in front of you. That breeds confidence and confidence breeds success.

    Come on Wigan!!

(How can I wait until Tuesday to watch it on BBC iplayer? :angry2:

  7. Hope some serious recruitment is going on behind the scenes. In Lenegan we trust.

Too right pal, there's a lot of good players to replace. Hope Finchy stays because to lose both halves and of their calibre, would not be ideal. (I didn't type disastrous, but I meant it! )

  8. A great night out at the Galpharm with an awesome display from the lads in miserable conditions. After a tense and even first period, Wigan started to turn the screw in the second half and kept on turning. Had Charnley had his kicking boots on, the score would have been more emphatic but it didn't matter in the end. Gelling could have played with more purpose but it was a superb team effort, special credit to our pack who dominated. The large Wigan following was noisy from the off and sang all night, creating a great atmosphere and boosting the attendance to over 10k, Huddersfield's first of the season. Happy days, or should that be nights?

  9. What you think of the stadium? I thought it was alright but they could've carried on building the brick walls to the top, bloody drafty!! Oh and they serve beer slower than at Ewood which I didn't think was possible!

I thought the stadium looked more impressive from the outside. I was a bit disappointed inside. Yep, it was freezing and we said the same about the length of time to get a beer! Great to be able to stand on a packed terrace.

  10. Great game today and superb atmosphere on the East terracing, a sea of cherry and white. We were potentially up against it due to injuries and suspensions but, without singling anyone out, every one of the lads put in a shift and more. Inept refereeing on the pitch at times, coupled with the video ref being less than kind to us, could have cost us on another day. Saints' best moments were in the second half but our defence was superb and held firm. I had us to win by 6, so the final margin was testament to a convincing display of rugby league. Last derby win at Knowsley Road and first derby win at Langtree Park. Moments to savour!

  11. Not a classic today by any means. Decent enough going forward but poor defence. Last two games we've conceded 67 points against Widnes and London. Would have been bad enough conceding that many against Saints and Wire...will be interesting on Friday and we'll need to up the ante in all departments.

  12. Had a funny feeling about this one for a few days. Widnes, no wins and having big points put against them every week. Wigan, playing very well, high scorers, mean defence and a chance to go top with a favourable result. Hmmm.

Four key players rested. You either take the plaudits if it goes well or accept you got it wrong if it does. Personally, I would have rested Pat and Tommy, moving Sam to the halves, leaving it at that. If we're going to do this squad rotation, it's clear it has to be a couple of players at the most. You can't afford to leave so many out, even against the basement club.

Great support from the Cherry & White who filled the West Stand and had the East opened for extras, about a third of that stand filled also.

Twice we went into decent leads only to be pegged back. Twelve points in the first half and then by eighteen in the second. We should have seen the game out from that second half position. We then missed a penalty at the death which would have given us a 38-37 win. A shame for Josh who had kicked brilliantly all afternoon.

Well done Widnes. You raised your game, played well and bearing in mind the respective positions deserved your win.

  13. Great game today and a fully deserved Wigan win. Everyone put in a shift and they needed to against a Catalan side with some big lads.

Silverwood's bithday and Christmas presents in future should be Specsavers vouchers - never seen as many forward passes by a visiting side who also seemed to hold on in most tackles which, in the main, they got away with.

Onward and upward. Come on Wigan!

  14. Yeah, a great performance tonight. A complete opposite from last Sunday, a desire to win, good fitness levels, good handling and great kicking. Most of the lads played well and Josh fully deserved his hat trick. I do like him.

So a Rovers win, a Wigan win and I haven't been attacked by an alsation...yet.

  15. Watched the American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo over Christmas which I thought was excellent. Had just read the trilogy and thought the film was a superb effort. Promped me to buy the three Swedish version films via Amazon (16 quid delivered for all three) which were equally good. Recommended.

  16. Well what a bad weekend - Rovers battered, attacked by an alsation and then Wigan put in an abject performance in front of a near 17k crowd.

You get a new head coach and you just want him to get off to a good start. Beatable opposition at home first game out but we get terrible passing, terrible handling and woeful kicking. We were always chasing the game but looked like we could have nicked it in the last 5 or 6 minutes - that would have been an injustice to an impressive Giants team who were several regulars down.

I thought Finch looked knackered from the off to be honest and agree about Goulding, who never seemed to get going. Could have said that about most of them though!

  17. Visited the Highwayman near Kirkby Lonsdale this afternnon. Part of the Ribble Valley Inns stable. The menu seemed virtually the same as at the Clog, if not exactly the same. No problem with that as there's plenty to choose from.

Two nibble type starters, chipata sauaages & mustard and homemade bread & oils. Mains of the medium haddock, real chips & peas and fish pie. Too stuffed for afters. Two pints of bitter and a white wine and it came in at £38.

Excellent service and surroundings with usual high standard of decor etc. The place was pleasantly full, rather than packed.

  18. Stieg Larsson did write a great trilogy. I am currently enjoying Jo Nesbo's books. They are about detective Harry Hole. They are excellent and if you like crime stories you will not be dissapointed.

Thanks for that. Had seen a few Nesbo books but never bought. Have read all the Karin Fossum series (some are in English as well), others by Per Petterson and all those by Tom Kristensen. All were in Norwegian.

Incidentally, saw The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo film last night. Brilliant. Rooney Mara who plays Lisbeth Salander was awesome.

  19. Another day and I'll have finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. The first of his Millennium Trilogy. Books two and three had been on our bookshelf for several months, bought for my wife by her sister. Strange that she never sent us book one, I thought but never mind, started to read them in that order before being told that our lad had taken book one a few weeks ago. Doesn't matter at all. There's a connection between books two and three but book one is more of a stand alone. Haven't been able to put any of them down. I've read quite a bit of Scandinavian Crime Fiction, mainly in Norwegian rather than English but this trilogy beats the rest hands down.
