  1. The attendance for the FA Cup qtr final replay against Burnley in 1960 is stated as 53,839 - the gates were locked well before kick off with an estimated 10,000 outside - I've seen photographs of the unlucky folk on Nuttall Street which were incredible.

Had the "extras" been allowed to squeeze in somehow, this would have eclipsed the Bolton 1929 crowd by a thousand or so and been our all time high.

  2. I meant to include this last night:

England National Squash Championsips 4 x semi-finals and 2 x finals matches - £32 for me and the lad - 6 hours squash at the highest level

    England - Australia Test Match at OT - 3 adults, 2 kids - £72

This is top quality sport at affordable prices

Go to the JJB to watch Wigan Warriors - take TEN of your mates and sit down the side in the East Stand (equivalent to the Jack Walker upper). During the game you will be able to sup three pints of bitter (you can take ale to your seats at trouble free rugby league) and still have summat left over for a big tasty pie. That's what £161 will get you.

  3. .... but the guy who CHEATED and tried to get lucas sent off is an absolute disgrace.....

Apparently not - we had a similar sort of discussion on here around 18 months ago. I argued (along with one or two others) that cheating should be dealt with more severely, feeling that it had no place in the game, but was shot down by a clear majority on this Board who thought cheating was a clever way of gaining an unfair advantage.

So well done the lad from Palace. We all take our hats off to you. Well some of us do anyway.

  4. In other words he can do it at international level but not at club level.

and this is proven by what? a handful of premiership games he's played?

reid was poor for us in his first season and looked nothing special at all and also dominic matteo had an appauling start for us and was dropped but now both of them have been recalled. morten g-p hasn't been given a fair chance i think.

Sometimes I wonder whether it's worth posting on here smile.gif

The point I was making is that he can do it at international level but isn't being given the chance at club level. I too think he should have been given a more lengthy run in the team. His serious lack of match fitness at PL level will now hinder his chances even further.

  5. MGP has had one decent game, decent, not good and that was against the mighty Bournmouth. He isn't Premiership quality yet, and we can't risk playing him all the time in the hope that he will come good.

I agree with what you say but feel it's all about fitness levels and adjustment to the speed of the Eglish game rather than a lack of quality. When he plays for Norway he seems to both score and weigh in with a fair number of assists. In other words he can do it at international level but not at club level.

  6. I agree. Its about time for Hughes to unlease MGP!

Unfortunately he can't do - The lad is so short of match fitness at PL level it's untrue. In fact I would wager I am fitter at present. biggrin.gif

Another fact worth looking at is that whenever he plays for Norway, (and against internationals obviously) he either scores or weighs in with a fair number of assists. The ability is there but his tempo for the English game isn't.

Whilst I admit he looked poor at the beginning of the season, I can't help thinking that had he been given a run in the side we would now be seeing the benefit.

Emerton has been playing well and so has Reid which has made it difficult for MGP to get a look in. Emerton initially played well on the left and during the course of games has tended to switch flanks with Reid more than once. During the last few games when Emerton has moved to the left he has not been as effective and I feel that Emerton on the right with MGP on the left would be the ideal scenario and give us better balance. For reasons mentioned above this is becoming nigh on impossible.

  7. just a small note to say that tickets for the stand to the left of the away fans can be purchased over the phone or in person at the bolton ticket office where you pay "home price" for tickets. Dodgy but if your short of a ticket or a few bob try that.

failing that a room in the devere with a balcony available at 123 quid, enough room for at least 10 !!

    thumbs-up.gif

1864 - I was in there last year, but as a corporate guest. When we pulled one back I was up in the air only to get a tap on the shoulder a couple of minutes later warning that I would be thrown out if I did anything similar!

When we equalised, five minutes in to time added on, I went ballistic, as did my mate, but the steward didn't return.

If you can be warned whilst being a corporate guest it's pretty sure that you'll be taken out if you are anywhere else in the stand - assuming Rovers score and you make yourself known that is!

  8. Amen to that, though I suspect the the spotty faced brigade have already made up their minds.

True, but the simple fact is that Duffer was probably the best out of that list anyway. I've seen virtually all of them.

  9. (1) Leighton James is a homosexual

Clap Clap Clap Clap Clap - Clap Clap Clap - Clap Clap

    Leighton James is a homosexual

    Repeat etc

    Same tune..........

    (2) Kindon's wife is on the game again

Great when sung by a 12k away following ........

    (3) An old 60's classic......F - U - F - U - C - F - U - C - K.........F**K OFF

    (4) Amonia........amonia...........amonia.........games versus Blackpool

  10. Actually, he's not allowed to warm up where he pleases. He has to warm up where told. And that's where he was told to warm up.

I have read every single post within this thread and was aware of Rule 3 that was pointed out several pages back in relation to where players are allowed to warm up.

What I meant was he could have chosen any area within the halfway line to Blackburn End section which is where I think he would have been told to warm up.

When he was the target of the chanting (and the racial abuse by the 1/2 guy(s)), he was right by the corner flag at the Blackburn End which was, in my opinion, rather stupid , a viewpoint endorsed by his own Chairman.

Or in today's PC society in this country perhaps I should say by his own Chair.

How do you know he was told to warm up by the corner flag?

  11. Yorke is a professional and he should of known better than to go near the blackburn end and also he should of known not to approach the blackburn end supporters.

If i was Yorke and i was getting called lazy, yet still getting paid x amount of thousands of £'s a week id just laugh my head off at the supporters singing at me.

Quite correct Hughesy - I was discussing the event with my BWFC mate today and we said exactly the same thing.

You're treading on thin ice with the Yorke near the Bburn End thing though. I voiced the same opinion on here shortly after the game and was accused by Jim of talking out of my arse. Tut, tut. biggrin.gif (mods were you reading?) dry.gif

Of course I was well aware Yorke was allowed to warm up wherever he wished, but in practice it was a tad stupid. After all, would Cantana have warmed up in front of the Kop at Leeds or indeed Ince in front of West Ham's finest?

    I don't think so.

As a side issue - Jim, you haven't yet praised Williams & Co for their swift and effective actions! tongue.gif

  12. Rightly or wrongly, Rovers have now been branded a racist club.

The club needs to nip this in the bud within the next hour by putting out a strongly worded statement emphasizing that only one fan was involved, that he was thrown out of Ewood and that he will be banned for life.

Are you listening Mr Williams ? ? ?

This requires action NOW, not a Tuesday to Friday effort like Tony Parkes.

Come on Jim - where are you?

Quick to let John Williams & Co have both barrels. Now they've handled the situation extremely well and as quickly as was possible, where is your praise?

I challenge you Jim (no, not to throw out your usual personal insults), but to give the club some praise. Come on Jim, you know you can do it!

    Jim?............Jim?...........Jiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmm!

  13. Talking out of your derriere as usual.

Yorke should be able to warm up anywhere he likes without some moron making monkey noises at him.

    Wasn't you perchance ?

No it wasn't me - I don't get involved in that sort of juvenile stuff.

It certainly wouldn't have been you because you would have been sat at home infront of the TV.

I wondered how long it would take you to respond - and you know what I mean smart arse.

Back the Rovers fans instead of trying to court sensationalism.

It goes without saying that if anyone has made racist comments it is deplorable.

  14. I'm on row 19 BBE and roughly in line with where he was warming up. The Blackburn End were giving him a rendition of "One Lazy Barsteward" etc but there were certainly no monkey chants at all. The arrogant sod shouldn't have chosen that area to warm up in and certainly not respond with that trademark grin of his.

The only thing I saw was a bloke right at the front who seemed to beckon Yorke over and, just by the railings, they seemed to exchange views.

Other than that, nothing to get worked up about, except for Dwight to knock that massive chip off his shoulder.

  15. For a year or so (around the time of winning the Championship) we used to go in the Waters Edge. Indeed we had a pint in there after getting off the coach from Anfield, after lifting the trophy and then making our way to Ewood for the celebrations.

Either that year or the year before we were just about to go in, prior to playing Man Utd, when six lads climbed out of the canal. Three Rovers and three United. They hadn't just jumped in up to their thighs, they were sopping wet from head to toe and had obviously been under the water. One of the United lads then got one of the worst beatings I have ever had the misfortune of seeing until we managed to drag them off him.

Used to be a great, huge pub though.

  16. Very good, and I'm in complete agreement, but the numbskulls don't want to listen. In their eyes, because he was captain of the 1995 Championship side makes him a "great" player. Which is utter tosh of course.

I've been watching Rovers on and off since the year dot and the only member of that 1995 side who should be guaranteed a place in the "greats" team is Shearer. Even then I would put a strong case for Fred Pickering.

Everyone with a differing opinion to you Jim is a numbskull. Views not on a par with yours are dismissed as tosh. And so on, and so on, and so on..............

I've been going to watch Rovers since blah, blah, blah.............I've seen this player, I've seen that, blah, blah, blah............blah, blah, effing blah...........you haven't but I have, blah, blah, blah............

I very rarely post these days because of people like you who turn debate into a slanging match. Folk young and old are entitled to their opinions without the need for your pontifications.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but try taking a step back and listen to others without the perpetual need for criticising.
