We will 'keep it tight and try and nick a goal' says Mowbray.

Risky strategy when we in all likelyhood have to get 3 points...

Agreed. How, exactly, is that going to , "put doubt in people's minds?"

I'm not suggesting we should go hung ho, but we have to be more positive than at Wolves.

Playing for a draw in a game we need to win.

Not liking the sound of it at all.

Brentford are a dangerous side and score plenty of goals. They've won 12 home games this season. They put 5 past PNE earlier this season, 4 past Reading, Rotherham and Derby and 3 past QPR, Brighton and Villa.

73 goals scored this season which is only bettered by Norwich, Fulham and Newcastle.

If we're still alive by the time we go there it is going to take a big effort to go there and get the win that might well be necessary.

Amazing what they can do on 10,000 crowds and a shoestring budget Mike.

Yes, like showing a little imagination when appointing managers and not signing a load of Pension top up players.

Both sets of fans wanting us to win .This will only end one way....

We didn't win at Anfield in 1995. Villa will not be the problem. We will be.

We are where we are because the players that we have are not good enough.  The other teams in the relegation scrap (Forest, Bristol and Burton) have got the big results at home when they really needed it.  I fully expect Birmingham to follow suit on Saturday (they must have some quality as they were top 6 contenders before they bought in Zola).  Even after such a poor season we had the chance to get out of trouble in recent weeks but yielded just 2 points from home games against Preston, Barnsley and Bristol.

I would be delighted if somehow we can pick up points but have no expectation that we will.

We are where we are because of a ridiculous managerial appointment last Summer, and death by a thousand cuts from our owners.

  4. In modern football, (& especially with clubs who have little money to spend, I believe 'young & hungry' is the formula for success.

Apart from the obvious, (the owners), one of the main reasons we're about to go through another trapdoor is our abundance of washed up players topping up their pension pots.

Look at the Barnsley team last Saturday. Hardly any recognisable names, had to sell key players this season,  & yet full of youth and energy.

There still has to be a balance with experience, and it's unrealistic to expect the youth system to produce every player in the team.

I would also extend the 'young and hungry' ethos as far as the manager goes, particularly if, as expected, we get relegated.

What is the logic of keeping a guy who left his previous club having failed to win any of the first eleven games in that division last season, (which made him another bizarre appointment in my book).

League One would be the right setting to hire a young, hungry manager and allow him time to build a young team.

Whilst I'm generally not a fan of bringing back ex players, I think Matt Jansen would be a good shout, having had relative success at Chorley.

Damien Johnson also a reasonable shout.

I wouldn't appoint Dunn as , in my opinion, he clearly lacks the nouse to be a manager.

Only got the First Team Coach gig ahead of Johnson because of his name I think.

  5. Full time 3 - 1.

Well done lads, a few first teamers in that Burnley side as well. Tomlinson looked brilliant in pre-season and Mahoney has been getting great reports from the U21s and surely must be on the verge of a call up to the first team?

A result to bring a little much needed cheer.

Don't hold your breath re Bowyer picking any of them.

  6. I don't want Ali at the club in any role. I don't care if it's a coach of a keaning ballboy. He has no business at this club. If he wants to start a coaching career I'm sure there are some non-league clubs who would give him some work experience. He can start there instead of using personal influence to get a role he's completely unqualified for here.

Perhaps Venky's are waiting for us to be non league to install him.

  7. Cant belive some fans unhappy that bowyer has good relationship with MrsD its what you would expect and i for one am happy about that

I don't have a problem that they have a good relationship. I have a problem with the club's shambolic infrastructure and chain of command.

If Desai actually understood football, how to run a football club and was over here running the show it would be fine.

  8. Is it just me that thinks this is an incredible bad and dangerous thing? I remember the last time we had a manager who had a direct line to Pune...

It's fundamentally wrong, irrespective of whether the manager is a decent sort or not.

If one of the Venky's was over here running the show that would be different.

The club is still a shambles and it amazes me how anyone can be remotely optimistic given all the circumstances.

  9. Having only joined London Branch this Season I didn't know Mark well but he was a lovely guy to speak to and a huge Rovers fan.

Some other present and past London Branch members have emailed similar tributes and recalled happy memories of Mark.

    RIP.

  10. I don't know the full ins and outs of how we came to appoint Jensen as assistant manager in the first place but from the outside at least it looks like it wasn't Kean's choice in the first place. You should always let your manager choose the backroom staff where possible in my opinion. To be honest there never seemed to be sort of any connection between Kean and Jensen in the dugout, Jensen usually just took a background role and you'd barely notice he was our assistant manager at times. The likelihood of the events regarding is departure is probably either that he'd had enough of working with Kean because he didn't like him, didn't want to ruin his reputation or Kean has told someone he wants to appoint "his own" assistant manager.

actually Kean said the appointment would make the football world sit up and take notice
