  1. How did the current owner pass the fit and proper ownership criteria that the league set?  Surely the league are at fault for allowing him to "buy" the club. Rather than kicking the club out of the league, it should be passed in to fan ownership via the EFL.

Dack's scavenging and the long-ball to Graham won us this game. I feel like this win is huge for us at the moment, yet it's against lowly Oldham. Funny how football can make you feel.

The worry for me is this new style that we are playing - possession football, on the floor, etc. I've watched both of our league games so far, and although it's still very early days, I wonder where the goals are coming from without Graham in the team and the strengths (literally) that he provides. By my reckoning, we've scored one goal in three games with our "new style" of play, and even that was from a set-piece (and an own-goal to boot). Yet, as tonight's second-half showed. when we go direct to Graham with Dack peeling off, we bagged three goals.

I entrust Mowbray to try things to make us better, because he knows the game far better than I do, but I would honestly pull the plug (panic, maybe!) on this possession-based football, and just revert to our players' strengths. It's served us well, and until we can splash out on tikki-taka midfielders, just put it on ice.

I have no problem with direct-play if that's what gets us results; Graham up front, two wide forwards (take your pick) with Dack playing just behind them and picking up the pieces... What's the shame in that?

That we didn't sign another forward who can play the Graham role.

  3. Went to today.  Plus points for me - Johnson in centre mid is a definite upgrade over Smallwood or Evans.  Also thought Gallagher did press a lot really well, until moved to the wing.  Minus points were that by the end I was thinking that I would rather have Charltons back 4!

Oh the furore regarding Charlie Adam!

To get out of this league a club needs an experienced hand to help.

We have had 2 examples in recent years.

Gordon Cowans - an old ageing pro played a part at our club bringing skill, nouse and most importantly balance and know how. Wasn’t the fastest but was a success.

Kevin Moran - need I say more?

Tony Gale - oldest freebie signing ever? Brought quality, know how and balance to help the younger players succeed.

There are other examples, Mick Duxbury, Frank Stapleton, Archibald, Ardiles. Granted not everyone a roaring success but you get the picture.

So for me Adam is more defensively aware than Evans or Smallwood, he has more attacking verve, football ability and know how than the midfield put together and IMO would be a fantastic model for the younger element such as Travis. He isn’t going to cost the earth so why not if he is fit and mobile?

We have seen how good he can be, and I accept he has a nasty side to him as well but isn’t that something Rovers have lacked since Toddy was at the club? A player with fight, balls and creativity to boot?

    Thats my view

You forgot the ultimate golden oldie. Tugay!

Cheers; if ever there was a player who achieved unexpected success through sheer dedication & steely determination over skill and finesse, it was Super Atko. He had limited ability as a Premier League midfielder but boy did he make up for it in graft & commitment, fully deserving of his place in history.

If only we had a couple like him now in CM... he'd be right up TM's street that's for sure!

You are not wrong. I have to ask though, is you first name Mark?

Mowbray tried to sign Bauer, in fact he spent a year chasing him.

They might have been expecting Bauer to take a wage, say 8k that would have been more than he was on at Charlton.  If his agent said he is worth £1 million, your getting  him for no fee and he wants that figure spread over 3 years, its just under an additional 9.5k per week.  Preston may have been willing to break their pay structure but Rovers weren't?  Don't think we will every find out what has really gone on.

  7. If the club want to increase season tickets sales and get increased numbers into ewood, how about they charge the current price for season tickets at the current number sold, if the overall number increases reduce the price of the season tickets (existing/early purchasers could get the amount back on their rovers card), and increase single match ticket prices. Would give existing season ticket holders an incentive to persuade friends to buy  a season ticket.  Away fans would have to pay more as well for tickets. It could  possibly lead to more fans at every game, be cheaper for season ticket holders and increase revenue for the club.

  8. 2-1 loss away against the probable champions not too bad a result.  TBH I was expecting a hammering when we kicked off, played it right to the back and lumped it long, then lost the ball.  We have some decent players, they need the confidence to play the way they can.
