He’s ‘grinding out’ games because that’s the best way to keep an average team with an average budget up there. How much sparkling football are Millwall and Luton playing?

When he fecks off and we are lumbered with someone from the usual merry go round, we’ll see how ‘not fussed’ some of you are then…

Millwall and Luton have the 6th and 7th best expected goals in the league, we are 20th.

Milwall and Luton have conceded less goals than us.

Millwall and Luton have scored more goals than us.

    Take the blinkers off.

That said I think JDT has lots of flaws. I was worried that Robins would change things at half time and that they would get on top of us with JDT not being able to see or counteract it and that’s exactly what happened - his in game management needs a lot of work. Also Adam Wharton showed again last night that he is clearly head and shoulders above Morton and so JDT has to take some blame for leaving him out in the cold for so long. I also don’t buy into the thought that he has worked miracles this season - we finished 8th last year after collapsing in the second half of the season and whilst we lost some players in the summer those who replaced them are arguably better or at least equal. So whilst I would like him to stay and see what next season brings after a hopefully decent summer of recruitment I am by no means convinced.

Feel the same way, deserves another season but I havent enjoyed this one at Ewood. Every game has been a grinding performance with no real improvement in my eyes.

    • I havent seen us score more than 1 goal at Ewood since October.
    • We have one of the lowest expected goals ratio in the league.
    • We have managed 2 points from a losing position all season.
    • We have a negative goal difference.
    • We spend large parts of the game passing it backwards with players arguing/pointing at each other like they dont understand how we are supposed to be playing.

The fact we are in the playoff race is frankly mad, I guess that what still gives me hope to cling on to.

His saving grace has been some personal improvement of the likes of Costello, Smodizc, Carter. Albeit at the same time he appears stubborn when questioned on why the likes of Wharton/Dack dont get game time when its clear others are massively underperforming throughout the season like Morton/Brereton.

Like others if he did leave I wouldnt be fussed but little faith the club will find anyone better.

  3. Agree with most here saying that JDT needs to ring the changes.  Brereton, Gallagher, Morton and Travis complete passengers in recent weeks so drop them all from the start and let someone else have a go. Got a feeling he wont though so expecting another grinding performance that could easily swing by 1 goal either way.

On a positive the results of teams around us seem to be going reasonably well for us, lets hope the same happens again tonight. At least its still in our hands given the fixtures remain against the playoff sides.

  4. For me this was just another repeat of every other home game this season. Plenty of the ball but no idea what to do with it. Shocking central midfield and terrible up front.

A few games we have managed to scrape a goal and win 1-0. For others we come away 0-0 or conspire a way to lose by making mistakes at the back.

I can’t see any team development this season whatsoever, same mistakes and problems every week. However there have been individuals who have improved like JRC, Carter, Pears and Smodizc which is promising.

The fact we are in the playoffs is laughable given performances, to have a goal difference of -2 says it all.

Maybe it’s our season though as we are still in there!

  5. I still don’t get the love for this guy having now sat through an entire season of his football at Ewood.

The football in my opinion is dire and I am amazed we are up in the playoffs given what I see most matches. Even at this point of the season the lads are arguing amongst themselves as they don’t know where to position or pass it to for most the match.

When the chips are down he has no ability to change the game leaving the subs way too late to affect the game or spur the lads in with a half time team talk.

If the club want to keep him they need to spend a fortune on players that can play his style over the summer as this lot can’t.

  6. I would put all the focus into the forward positions, there is only really Dolan of the current crop that I would keep from the front 3 assuming Brereton goes.

Thomas has looked ok if we can get him cheap enough and his form carries on to the end of the season, he isnt a world beater though just better than what we have.

Central midfield is a tough one, we definitely need some experience in there but with Travis finding his form again could end up meaning Wharton/Buckley/Garret dont get any game time. Its irritated me this season seeing Morton get so much game time at their expense if I am honest especially as his performances have been average at best.

  7. Another fantastic result, didn’t see the game but sounds like we carried on from the Blackpool performance which I thought was one of our best in months at Ewood.

If you had asked me after the Wigan game I would have put my life savings on us dropping out the playoffs but the team seem to have found a way to win.

Plus the last two performances have finally showed some improvement from the dirge server up prior to it. Long may it continue the Sheff Utd game next weekend could be an important one

  8. Best performance at ewood for a while and should have been 3 or 4 with more composure up top.

Blackpool were awful but our 11 were up for it from the first whistle and maybe just made them look that bad.

We look really solid defensively now pity we just didn’t get in a couple of strikers to make games like this more comfortable.

  9. Great to get the three points but my god that was another tough watch. As bad as the Wigan game for me but we just managed to snatch a goal this time.

Swansea looked like a better version of how JDT wants us to play and deserved at least a point.

Carter and Dolan both decent today, the rest anonymous. If we can beat Blackpool on Tuesday been a great return in the last few games.

  10. I was expecting a loss but after the Watford performance have some hope for a draw or a sneaky win even. Deluded I know 🙂

Would like to see Brereton and Morton dropped for Gally and Buckley/Wharton.

Trickier to put Britain and Hyam straight back in after the weekend performance of Carter and Costello though.

  11. It’s been the same performance all season, dire. The luck has just ran out in front of goal.

It’s a dreadful style of football to watch and I feel has show no improvement since day 1. If this style is the future surely there would be some signs of hope by now?

Does he really need 11 new players to make it work as almost nobody looks comfortable and is excelling under his management.

  12. fair play to Greg at least someone has finally fronted up about the whole sorry mess.

reading between the lines its been an indivdual f* up on both transfers that have meant its not gone through i.e. some administrative process.

nevertheless its cost us big time and shows up the tinpot nature of how the club is ran currently.

  13. consider it lost!

I was already thinking about not renewing as I have not enjoyed the football at ewood this season and feel like the Riverside is a total shambles of a facility.

Spending most of the first or second half to get a pie or pint as they have one poor 14 year old behind the till with a queue looping around the stand is bad enough. To be then followed by a bathroom break where you cant dry your hands as the ones on the wall are cold and 30 years old with no power. The stand itself is crumbling and a constant drip on my head from a leaky roof just puts the icing on the cake.

All for 400 of your british pounds (£100 more than it was 2-3 season ago) whilst upwards of £20m of talent leave the club on free transfers. I've got to the point where I would rather just be at home listening on the radio or catching the odd game on TV until there is some fundamental change at the club.

  14. Whether these transfers have gone through or not the whole window has been the usual shambles.

Scratching around for essential players with hours to go before the window is rank bad administration, regardless of some falling through due to issues out of our hands. It was the same over the summer.

Other similar budgeted local clubs like Preston went out early in Jan, secured targets and now have them up to speed and playing.

I stupidly had high hopes for organisation this window due to all the noise about recruitment team investment etc. but its been as bad and unimaginative as ever.
