  1. WHAT IS THE ANSWER?

(So there's no escape Kayos) As Paul said they're an improvement on last year as they already have all the details on the form. An idiot could fill it in in a matter of minutes, as I prove to myself.

Never was Bobf mi old mucka laugh.giflaugh.gif

Yep mine FINALLY arrived and duly completed and in the post.

As mentioned before though - the time limit £50 travel voucher is of non use due to it having to be booked by the end of December which I am unlikely to do - why isn't an option given for something else - no benefit for the 'cheaper hot dog and drink' as I don't eat meat (very incosiderate Rovers what about the veggie alternative or a reduction on the pints? laugh.gif ) and don't buy programmes anymore because they are a absolute rip off and these will probably increase so all in all the saving is not really of any benefit and why do we have to ring up for the Cup game ticket scheme?

Moans - maybe but I always renew anyway regardless of the package

Have to agree though - much better and compact Season Ticket pack the even an idiot ('eg to quote BobF himself biggrin.gif ) can complete.

In answer to the 'What is the answer' - My personal outlook on this is that Football is becoming to expensive and less enjoyable nowadays and the season ticket is becoming a bit defunct in it purpose - people don't want to pay the exorbitant costs - especially in wages to players that they consider not to be able to lace their grandads boots.

  2. all agree he is another bad buy.

    Waggy

Coming off what you have said - this comment stands out here as a typical reaction from the majority of Rovers fans.

Instead, of looking at the signing in the context of what it is in terms of price and our current predicament they are quick to jump and criticise.

Yes there are alot of sneer from oppostion fans but only beacuse it is not a major name signing , and IMO as a signing in general speaking only is not a good one for the club Blackburn Rovers in terms of long term and S/T sales.

However as I have said, this is only generally speaking - now what I feel people need to look at here is the situation come the first Saturday of the new season and to see if Dickov is the only sigining of the Summer and if Cole is still here. We are not akin to know what Souness has in mind or the signings he wants - funds are probably going to be the decisive factor here - and the price at what PD has come at could well be a steal.

Personally, I feel he is taking a hit and miss on Jansen this season and just needs the cover at a very good price. Who knows we could see the 're-birth' of MJ

PD can score goals and has proven it in the P/L in a bad team - gamble or no gamble it is a gamble we can afford to take without too much loss if it does not work out - unlike Grabbi

Time will tell whether this is a good or bad signing so lets just wait and see as nobody knows what his role is to be yet.

  3. So there were nine Premier League clubs who wanted him?

Just be aware of what you have said here Bobf - could come back and slap you in the mush - just look at Emerton (similar scenario!)laugh.giflaugh.gif

Personally feel that at the price, this is not too bad a buy dependent upon what happens with Cole/replacement?

    At least he's British.

How come the price has gone up though - thought he could leave for £75k?

  4. It's all about being satisfied with what we can get, and sadly it isn't Henry.

And that my friends is fundamentally how this signing has got to be looked at.

However, just a thought by my goodself based on what is flying about at the mo -

If we do lose/sell Cole is Dickov a direct replacement or just a stop gap at a reasonable price and within budget for the time being pending funds availiability?

    Or

As Cole is probably only 1 more season left in him at Premier level are we cashing in and as Dickov been bought for the progessive same reason as what Cole was originally bought for?

It is without question, we do need strenghthening in other areas as a priority and the lack of funds is definitely playing a part - so only time will tell.

This will do nothing to inspire the purchasing of season tickets by 'the fairweather fans' as JW puts it, which in all essence shoots down their aspirations of attracting back the casual fan with price freezes.

What we all have to do though is just give Dickov the chance and await to see what actually unveils during the next coming weeks

  5. Can't blame Alan Smith one bit. Loyalty is nice but at what cost, if you are ambitious then surely there is a fine line between loyalty and plain old stupidity. He's a young man with the cahnce of a great future why oh why would he want to waste it, he wants to pit himself against top players and play with top players no shame in that.

Don't know what there problem is- have they all forgot what HE said in his earlier days - in that he is a Spurs Fan!!!!

  6. Surely now, no-one can use price as a major excuse for not buying. Poor performances maybe but not price.

    That's just it Rev

Last Season people thought we where paying too much anyway, and we had just finished 6th.

What it is the be-all - is value for money which a majority of Rovers feel they are not getting at the moment and that some players should not be allowed to wear the shirt unless they show that they actually give a damn.

As I have said earlier, unless there are some major scoops made by Souness in the transfer market or some sounds coming out of the club that we are setting our stall out to win some silverware next season - then I can only say 'the horse has already bolted' (no not Yorke) and the club cannot be surprised if the s/t uptake is down yet again.

  7. Wow, post arrived this morning.......................

A post card from Rovers............First Class.........

So what does the card say.

    MORE TO SHOUT ABOUT

Well this coming season Blackburn Rovers Football Club is committed to giving you the loyal supporter top flight football at an affordable level.

Your Season Ticket Application Pack detailing this seasons offer will arrive any day soon

    Claim-Your-Own-Seat Deadline Saturday 19th June

I hope no one is away during the next 3 weeks.

Why not just send out the application pack, and stop wasting postage

I'd imagine they are trying to get the renewal forms out as fast as they can. Why wouldn't they?

It's probably this new-fangled card system thing designed to speed things up that's slowing things down.

Sorry nuclear - but how the bloody heel does the new fangled system delay getting out the renewal packs

It is without doubt , Rovers would have already had things in place for the new system ages ago - and if they didn't, then that is just amateur.

My theory is they were still pondering what the package would be - which again I find amazing due to the fact that if I am not mistaken, JW stated that they had prepared for relegation a couple of months back.

However, who are we to know as we can only speculate unless advised otherwise, what is clear though, is, it would appear the majority would rather the renewals are sent out earlier rather than later.

  8. Simple fact is that you can now more than ever before buy tickets on a match to match basis so why do people need to pay £400+ just before the summer holidays.

Great news for all supports lets hope its not thrown back in John Williams and his colleague’s faces.

Gav - you've answered the problem there in one swoop.

After the season we have had - at Rovers people know they can always buy tickets match by match 99% of the time and no more so likely that next season. So unless there is some major scoop(s) signing, people will probably see how the season pans out upto Xmas, and dependent on the remaining fixtures at home IMO we may well see an upturn in the 1/2 season tickets if the season is looking promising.

As I have said previously as many others, the Board and JW especially had better be prepared for a shock re the S/T sales

As my better half said - what use is a £50 off travel voucher to you?

CK reply - 'Ah but it depends on how long its valid for! could use it for Europe (next season)- but knowing Rovers probaly only upto Dec 2004'

Personally Rovers fans are not bothered about what other clubs do with their prices so long as they feel theirs is worth the price - somehow freezing the price IMO will not attract any more fans.

  9. A price freeze was really the only viable option for the Club after the sort of season we've had but fairplay nonetheless.

However this will only be of benefit if we actually strengthen this close season. The benefits of the price freeze will soon be forgotten if we see Friedel and/or Ferguson and/or Cole heading for the exit door this summer.

(Still can't understand why the club are surprised attendances dropped after selling Dunn and Duff.)

Of even greater significance though is what the club are hoping to do with the direct debit scheme and with a bit of luck they really will deserve praising on that front.

Rev you always seem to beat me to it!!

No surprise to me either on this account - but will it be enough for the loyalists? Will be interesting to see the details of the D/D scheme

Still have my doubts unless some major (fresh) incomings happen rather than outgoings except for the dross (see ya later Emerton).

JW-Bit of advice - how about having a word with Souness about win bonuses when negotiating deals with players - no win and only basic wage - win and your pockets will be filled - and if they don't like it then tough luck, we don't want you - only players that are prepared to sweat blood and guts for the shirt - just a thought rather than overpaid mercanaries. Maybe then you might see a bit of more response from the paying public.

Roll on Rovers - this summer could determine our next 5 years.

Souness - THE ROVERS FANS EXPECT - will you deliver??

Controversial - maybe - but needs to me said.

  10. you will struggle to get a flight now.

Think it will be the accommodation that you will struggle on more - unless you are willing to pay over the rip-off over the odds excessive amount the hoteliers etc are charging.

Managed to get in a Hotel in Setubal -appx 1/2 hr outside Lisbon £150 for 4 nights with breakfast.

  11. As I said earlier on this thread , the brummies are on one again thinking they are summat when all they have done is finish 10th in a poor premier league which in all essence shows just how bad we are.

Have to disagree with most of you, thought they where quite loud at ONE point, but can't for the life of me work out how they seem to think they where loud all through the match - Have to admit, when they are on song I consider the 'big heads' to be one of the loudest set of fans around, but thought they where quite disappointing really on Saturday compared to other times we have played them.

Enjoy your 'limelight' bluenoses because I think you'll come back down to earth with a bump next Season

Now back to us, regardless of it being the last game of the Season found it very boring and worryingand a total let down that we could not finish off a poor Birmingham team. Flitcroft was annonymous (times up Shagger), Neill was yet again poor when he came on, Short looked sluggish and for some reason Stead looked 'out of sorts' even though he did put in the effort without much gain.

Positives - Johannson was excellent -seemed to win everything, thought Douglas played well but still feel we lose out on a lot of chances of getting forward by playing him on the left, Cole worked his socks off in possibly his last game and Gray kept up to his excellent consistency with another good game, Enks made a terrific save and looked comfortable and more confident.

Negatives - poor match wtih lots of wasted space and opportunity given up down the flanks to attack due to the formation

Souness not putting on Gallagher sooner and Jansen not getting a game.

And for the first time ever -I was another that didn't stay at the end, because I don't feel the players or Souness deserved it.

  12. In the second half Emerton beats three players in quick succession down the right flank before playing a beautiful cross into the box for Cole to power an unstoppable headed equalizer.

Now we are getting far fetched - Emerton beats 3 players /Cole a Header!!

    Been drinking again Nuclear?? rolleyes.gif

See the Brummies think they are something again - we'll see . St Andrews isn't that where they still use 'clubs' (eek!) UG! UG!

Going against all my instinct and judgement of watching Rovers over the years and the crap season we have had and last weeks miserly efforts, and predicting a handsome win for the ROVERS.

Finish off how we started - 5-1 Rovers with a penalty to boot (and miss blink.gif )

    Get in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Excellent day had by myself. Quality weekend in fact. Still recovering...

Great to meet CAPT_KAYOS... he's a bit of a looney!!

P.s. I've got some great pics on cd from the game/weekend. Can someone PM me their e-mail address, who is logged onto brfcs.fotopic so we can post them on there? rover.gif

    Me a looney - tweep!! tweep!! laugh.giflaugh.gif

Nice to meet you SS and yer dad

What time did everybody leave the Red Lion?

  14. You carn't go any where these days without being recognized.

It's all the more surprising considering how many lagered-up geezers carrying sex-dolls and wearing an "Orvil" shirt there are!

    laugh.gif

Hang a hanky on their heads as well Bryan and you have the next trend generation of dedicated fashion followers - believe me biggrin.gif you would if you had seen the natives of Tottenham on Saturday. tinykit.giftinykit.gif

  15. Is it a big pub and does it accept away fans?

Classed as clientele of Spurs fans and locals huh.gif

Apparently last year folk went in there no problem.

I do think we should play carefully though - a few Rovers fans drinking quietly in the corner is one thing, hordes of us carrying large items of blow up fruit might be slightly different.

Poss Tris, but heh -its the last game and I'm sure the Spurs fans won't bother

But think we will be heading for 'The Park Pub' or somewhere with a car park as we are driving and comeing back rather than staying over.

  16. What puzzles me is why we went for Stead. McBride was the type of player (strong in the air, can hold the ball and score a few) Rovers has cried for seasons and we nearly got one during the Hodgson era in Dublin but ended up with Blake. Souness saw this and went for McBride, so he turned us down but why did he then switch attention to a player he never saw and is clearly not the type he wanted. It seems to me that he was so down by the whole saga and desperate for a new striker he would have taken anyone but luckily it ended well.

Think you'll find that we had been watching Stead since last Season (inc Souness I think) so it wasn't a bolt out of the blue.

Think? huh.gif I posted this on here before we signed him, and mentioned since Souness had had him watched for quite a while, so the likelihood is we would have ended up getting Stead (probably at the end of the season) regardless of the Mcbride situation.
